Back To The 80s-Chapter 386 - 396: New Neighbor_1
Lu Songyuan murmured to himself while holding Mo Wang at his side, "He reeks of money."
Lu Aiguo laughed it off and said, "I’m making money for my nephew to marry a foreign girl."
Lu Zhanguo arrived when dinner was almost over, and was surprised to see Lu Aiguo there. "Why are you here suddenly?" he asked.
"I’m just visiting. You guys are acting so strange. If you don’t come home for the New Year, I’ll bring Fang Jing and Yueyue here." Lu Aiguo said casually.
Gu Xiaobei chuckled. His "visit" involved such a long journey.
Lu Zhanguo sat down next to Gu Xiaobei. Xiaopang stopped eating and insisted that his dad hold him, shouting repeatedly, "Daddy, hug! Daddy, hug!"
Lu Zhanguo held Xiaopang and Wen Xiuqing brought a clean set of chopsticks and a bowl for him.
After dinner, they sat under the vines and drank tea for a while. They also ate fruits and mooncakes. Only then did Gu Xiaobei and Lu Zhanguo leave with their children.
The bright moonlight enveloped the family of four. Gu Xiaobei sighed. This was her third Mid-Autumn Festival since she came to this world. Time flies fast.
She couldn’t help but ask, "Honey, it seems like you’ve been sent on fewer missions lately."
Xiaopang was leaning on Lu Zhanguo’s shoulder. When he heard his mother call out like that, he also raised his little head and shouted, "Nao Dong, Nao Dong."
Gu Xiaobei laughed so hard that she feigned anger and said, "You can’t call him ’honey.’ He’s my husband. You should call him ’daddy.’"
Xiaopang tilted his little head and leaned on his dad’s shoulder, shouting even louder and more cheerfully, "Nao Dong, Nao Dong."
Lu Zhanguo couldn’t help but laugh. He said to Gu Xiaobei, "We have to watch what we say in the future. Our little Xiaopang is so smart. He learns everything."
Xiaopang hugged his dad’s neck proudly, his mouth constantly uttering the new phrase he had learned.
"By the way, we have new neighbors across from us." Lu Zhanguo, undeterred by his daughter’s parroting, said to Gu Xiaobei.
Gu Xiaobei was somewhat puzzled. "How come I didn’t see them?"
"It’s Commissar Zeng’s family. His wife just applied to join him here. Their child is the same age as Xiaopang," Lu Zhanguo explained.
"Your commissar seems pretty old. How come his child is so young?" Gu Xiaobei asked skeptically.
"They had a child before. But he drowned while bathing in the river when he was in his teens," Lu Zhanguo shared what he had heard from Zhong Zhi.
The two chatted until they got home. Downstairs, they saw that the light was on across from their home. Seems like someone had already moved in.
Because Gu Xiaobei had been busy from dawn to dusk recently, she didn’t notice when the people across moved in.
After reaching the second floor, Lu Zhanguo was about to unlock the door while holding the children, when the door across from them opened. A woman in her thirties came out. She was a bit plump, had small curly hair, and elongated eyes. She had dimples when she smiled. Looking at Gu Xiaobei and her family, she smiled and said, "I heard from my husband, Changzhi, that a army leader’s family lives opposite to us. We moved in yesterday and didn’t see anyone. These must be your twins, right? They’re really cute."
Gu Xiaobei smiled and greeted, "Sister-in-law."
Zhao Hongmei, Zeng Changzhi’s wife, smiled and said, "Why don’t you bring the kids over to my house for a while? My Erhu hasn’t slept yet."
Gu Xiaobei politely replied, "Some other time. Our children usually go to bed early. They’re already very tired now."
Zhao Hongmei did not insist any further, "Alright, once I’ve settled in, come over for a meal."
Gu Xiaobei nodded, holding her children, and entered the house with Lu Zhanguo.
After they got home, they bathed the children first, then put them on the bed to play. Lu Zhanguo insisted on washing clothes.
Gu Xiaobei, having nothing else to do, started teaching the children English. She recited nursery rhymes in English again and again, which Mo Wang seemed to ignore, busy tearing up napkins.
But Xiaopang stared at his mom’s moving lips, and after a while, he made a sound, "Nao Dong."
Feeling defeated, Gu Xiaobei lay down on the bed, hugged Xiaopang, and pinched his chubby cheeks. "Why are you so naughty? You learnt the wrong word so quickly."
After Lu Zhanguo finished washing the clothes and came into the room, he saw the two little ones still awake, climbing and frolicking on Gu Xiaobei.
"Why haven’t they fallen asleep yet?" Lu Zhanguo asked, picking up Mo Wang who was crawling on Gu Xiaobei’s belly.
Gu Xiaobei looked at Mo Wang, who was nestled in Lu Zhanguo’s arms, and then took a closer look at her own man. These two were looking more and more alike with the same expression. Both of them loved to frown.
"Did Aiguo come to visit without any particular reason?" Lu Zhanguo asked while holding his son.
Gu Xiaobei shook her head. "No, he probably came to spend Mid-Autumn Festival with mom and dad. By the way, Aiguo is planning to take over a food factory."
"That’s great," Lu Zhanguo commented, though he felt that Aiguo’s visit wasn’t as simple as just spending the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Gu Xiaobei sat up with Xiaopang in her arms and said, "Yes, but if he takes over that food factory, he will need to drastically reform and innovate it, or he will still be unable to turn it around."
Lu Zhanguo didn’t understand this, but he didn’t find it annoying when Gu Xiaobei spoke about these things. He enjoyed hearing his wife chatter about all sorts of trifles.
The next day, Lu Zhanguo came home early in the afternoon and called out Lu Aiguo. The two of them leisurely strolled to the bank of Yellow River.
Only then did Lu Zhanguo ask, "What’s the matter? Why did you come so far?"
Lu Aiguo lit a cigarette, took a couple of long drags, and said irritably, "You noticed even this? It’s nothing serious. Just that I’ve been constantly fighting with Fang Jing recently. It’s so annoying. I came out here to relax."
"Look at you. You’re running away just because you had a fight. Can’t you be more magnanimous?" Lu Zhanguo glanced at Lu Aiguo, somewhat helplessly.
"It’s not that, second brother. I have no idea who influenced Fang Jing. She fights with me every day, always suspecting me of this and that. If I come home a bit late in the evening, she accuses me of messing around. Do I look like that sort of person?" Lu Aiguo complained. He was already busy selling mooncakes and was exhausted every day, like a dog. When he got home, he had to endure Fang Jing’s cold and sarcastic words. He would rather buy a ticket, come out, and enjoy a few days of peace.
"Why doesn’t Fang Jing trust you? Do you have any criminal record? You two have been married for more than a year or two. Don’t you understand her temperament?" Lu Zhanguo didn’t think Lu Aiguo was being wronged at all. There certainly was a problem.
Lu Aiguo looked at Lu Zhanguo in surprise. "Second brother, you should change your profession to a women’s director. You have a deep understanding of marriage relationships." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Cut it out, stop joking around. Get back as soon as you can if there’s no problem. I’m sure Fang Jing is anxious at home," Lu Zhanguo said seriously.
Lu Aiguo replaced his jovial expression with a serious one, and said, "I want Comrade Fang Jing to realise the serious consequences of wronging me."
Lu Zhanguo didn’t want to deal with him any longer. "Are you being childish? Hurry up, buy a ticket and get back to where you came from." After saying this, he turned around to leave. He initially thought that Lu Aiguo must have run into some trouble in Capital City, which was why he came over. He didn’t expect it to be such a childish reason.
