Back To The 80s-Chapter 385 - 395: Mid-Autumn_1
Upon entering the ward, Gu Xiaobei and Li Fengmei saw this scene and couldn’t help but laugh.
The two of them put their things on a vacant bed. Gu Xiaobei said with a smile, "I thought we would wait until the eleventh, but it seems your son was eager to come out for mooncakes."
Ge Chunling also laughed and said: "Right? I felt discomfort in my belly last night, I thought I’ve eaten too much for dinner. But I couldn’t bear the pain in the middle of the night, I almost gave birth on my way here, when we got into the delivery room, the baby’s head was already out."
Madam Wu cheerfully said: "My eldest grandchild is impatient, just like his dad when he was little, he came out without much effort."
Looking at the baby in Madam Wu’s arms, Li Fengmei asked, "He is indeed adorable, by the way, where is Guanghan?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"He went back to the army early this morning, supposedly he can’t miss a training session happening recently." Ge Chunling said with a hint of disappointment.
"What will you two do for meals? Let me cook something for you right away after I go home?" Li Fengmei kindly offered. Over the years, she always played the role of the older sister.
"No need, I will buy something later, Guanghan will come to pick us up from the hospital in the afternoon." Madam Wu smiled and said.
Gu Xiaobei looked at the time, stood up and said, "I’ll go out and get you some food, you can’t leave the child alone for now." She asked Li Fengmei to sit down a bit longer, took the lunch box and left to buy food.
Gu Xiaobei thought for a moment, then decided to buy some mutton stew from a small restaurant outside, and a few baked sesame cakes to bring with.
Out of the hospital gate, across the street, there was a small restaurant, along with some inexpensive guesthouses. Most people who stay there are those who came to the provincial city for medical treatments.
As she passed the guesthouse, she overheard a conversation between two people: "I heard there’s a black market for selling blood, do you know where it is?"
"Not sure, the innkeeper should know, should we go in and ask?"
Gu Xiaobei sighed within her heart after listening. If it weren’t for life’s desperation, who would want to sell their blood? But she didn’t let this matter trouble her.
She bought the food and brought it back to the ward, watched Ge Chunling and Madam Wu finish eating before leaving with Li Fengmei.
We made a good profit from the mooncakes, so on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Gu Xiaobei gave everyone ten yuan for holiday expenses, and also bought two boxes of apples, distributing four jin each.
After everybody left to get busy, Gu Xiaobei gave Qin Li five hundred yuan, saying: "You take this money, buy what you want, the rest of the money will stay on the account, as working capital."
Qin Li declined. For the past two months, Gu Xiaobei has been giving her a hundred yuan a month for living expenses: "Sister Xiaobei, put the money on the account, I don’t need it."
"Take it. It’s the holiday season. Your uncle, your parents, when Uncle Jin and the others come back, we will need to buy things. Even if we are like sisters, we still need to keep accounts clear. At the end of the year, we’ll calculate the dividend once more, at other times, the two of us just need to draw living expenses monthly." Gu Xiaobei explained.
Seeing Gu Xiaobei being persistent, Qin Li took the money and said with a laugh, "If my parents knew I was making so much money, they’d be shocked."
Gu Xiaobei looked at Qin Li with a heartache. She was reluctant to have any partnership in business, but Qin Li was different. Gu Xiaobei wished she could do everything she could to make her life happier.
Today was the Mid-Autumn Festival, Gu Xiaobei invited everyone to a restaurant for lunch, and then let them off for the rest of the day to celebrate the festival.
When Gu Xiaobei returned home, she went to the supermarket and bought some fur fabric for Wen Xiuqing and Lu Songyuan, and then to the wet market to buy fish, chicken, and meat. She had told Wen Xiuqing in the morning, she was going to buy today’s groceries.
The bike handle was covered with big and small bags, even a live chicken was hooked on, plus there was a box of apples squeezed onto the bike seat. It was impossible to ride, so she had to push the bike home.
When she got home, she was surprised to see Lu Aiguo. She asked in surprise, "When did you arrive? Did you come alone?"
"I made a last-minute decision, bought a train ticket and came. Fang Jing is at work, she couldn’t come." Lu Aiguo, holding Mo Wang, stood under the grape trellis, and said with a smile.
Lu Songyuan went forward to help Gu Xiaobei take things off the bike. Xiaopang saw that his mother brought things back, and ran over, trying to open the box to see what was inside.
Wen Xiuqing protected the box from one side, afraid that the chicken might scratch the child.
Watching this scene, Lu Aiguo said in admiration, "A family is the best when they are together."
After parking the bike, Gu Xiaobei went to the washbasin under the grape trellis to wash her hands. Then she said: "Then move your business to the provincial city, our whole family will be together. Later we will take it back to the Capital City together, our family will have a big migration wherever we go."
Lu Aiguo grimaced, "I don’t know when my second brother can be transferred to Capital City. Also, my elder brother, I have heard people like him are not easy to get transferred, he might have to stay in the construction army for a lifetime. It’s not easy for our whole family to gather together."
Upon hearing this, Wen Xiuqing added: "Didn’t your big brother imply that he’d be able to be transferred inland soon?"
Lu Aiguo sighed: "I went back and asked, the system of the construction army is different from local places, unless there is someone who could help, it would not be easy to get transferred."
Wen Xiuqing felt a little down, Lu Songyuan suggested: "Since your big brother has said that he can get transferred back, there must be something certain about it. We should not guess without reason. Aiguo, put Mo Wang down and go slaughter the chicken. I’ll go boil the water."
Lu Aiguo put down Mo Wang and joked: "I tried to steal a moment’s leisure by holding the baby, but you’ve found me out."
As soon as Mo Wang got to the ground, he also followed Xiaopang to watch what Xiaopang was looking for.
For dinner, Gu Xiaobei cooked a full table of dishes. They sat under the grape trellis to eat. As the evening drawn near, the air got a little chilly, so they put sweaters on the two children.
Lu Zhanguo was not home for dinner as he had to attend a meal gathering with the soldiers.
At dinner, Lu Aiguo took a sip of his drink and said to Gu Xiaobei, "Second sister-in-law, I plan to take over a food factory, do you think it’s feasible?"
Gu Xiaobei put down her chopsticks, nodded and said: "Great, don’t hesitate if it’s right."
Lu Aiguo, somewhat uncertain, said: "I just don’t know how to operate it. This food factory was originally a pastry factory. It was nearly bankrupt due to poor profits. I don’t know how to turn it around after I take over."
Gu Xiaobei considered and said: "In Capital City, Daoxiang Village and Guihua Vegetarian have always been the two leading companies. It’s best to expand the market outside. Also, southern pastries are usually more sophisticated, you can go to the south to investigate, develop and improve existing products, along with seasonal products. It’s customary that people send gifts on holidays, you can produce some classy gift boxes for the Spring Festival. Not to mention the welfare distribution during the holidays in government institutions in Capital City, it alone is a considerable income."
Lu Aiguo nodded approvingly: "Right, currently most places are still giving rice and flour as gifts, it’s become antiquated. I sold out all my mooncakes early following your advice on this Mid-Autumn Festival."
