Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Exposure_1

Ling Yun arrived at the company early in the morning, and as soon as she opened the office door she found a piece of paper lying on the floor. Clearly, someone had slipped it under the door. Picking it up out of curiosity, she saw five words scribbled on it: Jin Cheng is problematic!

Ling Yun felt a shock in her heart. She hastily glanced around and retreated to her inner office to call Gao Dailin. When she returned after the call, she found Jin Cheng sitting at the desk, a tree branch hanging from his mouth, and his legs crossed nonchalantly.

"When did you get here?" Ling Yun wondered if Jin Cheng had overheard her conversation.

"Just got here. I heard you on the phone in the other room," Jin Cheng said casually.

Ling Yun didn’t make a sound. She was naturally suspicious and remained uncertain even seeing Jin Cheng acting normal. If he had overheard her conversation and was able to maintain his composure, it suggested Jin Cheng was unexpectedly crafty.

Jin Cheng indeed had heard Ling Yun’s conversation. It confirmed his intuition; he had a sense that the troublemaker was close by.

Who could it be? Jin Cheng mulled this over while flipping through a newspaper, his leg bouncing up and down.

Gao Dailin found it surprising when he received Ling Yun’s call. Why could there be an issue with Jin Cheng, a notorious playboy? Nonetheless, he decided to test it out for safety’s sake.

Gu Xiaobei felt he hadn’t seen Lu Zhanguo for several days. Every morning when he woke up, Lu Zhanguo was already gone, and every night when he came back, he was already asleep.

Feeling bad for Lu Zhanguo, he asked Chang Yuan to bring back a fish for him in the morning.

After Xiaobei found Chang Yuan, he saw Sun Aiqin and Xiaobao playing in the yard.

Through their interactions with Chang Yuan, Sun Aiqin seemed to have calmed down a bit. She didn’t go around visiting other people’s houses or picking other people’s vegetables as much.

"It’s cold out, how can you leave the crotch of his pants open, exposing his butt?" Xiaobei couldn’t help but ask when he saw Xiaobao sitting on the ground in split pants.

"No problem, kids don’t feel the cold there, and besides, he often wets his pants. Washing them is too much of a hassle. Also, the weather is not good now, they don’t dry in a day. We can’t keep up with the cleaning." Sun Aiqin said somewhat awkwardly.

Last time when Sun Aiqin wanted some clothes for Jiujiu, Gu Xiaobei rudely refused her. Now, hearing Sun Aiqin say this, he felt a pang of sympathy.

"I have a few clothes that don’t fit anymore. If you don’t mind, you can take them, re-tailor them, and make pants for Xiaobao."

"I don’t mind, I don’t mind at all." Sun Aiqin hastily picked up Xiaobao from the ground.

"Okay, I’ll bring them down to you later." Saying this, Gu Xiaobei headed towards the stairs.

As Gu Xiaobei was about to walk up the stairs, Sun Aiqin called out, "Auntie, I have something to tell you."

Gu Xiaobei turned to see Sun Aiqin’s hesitant look and found it strange, so he turned back, "What is it?"

Sun Aiqin glanced around, then she held Xiaobao, walked over to the yard wall and said, "Auntie, come over here."

Gu Xiaobei realized that Sun Aiqin was worried about being overheard. It must be more gossip about her.

Once she saw Gu Xiaobei walk over, Sun Aiqin looked around again and then whispered, "Xiangmin said she’s going to make trouble for you. She’s always whispering with Doctor Chi lately and she’s now living in the hospital and not coming back. Do you think they’re plotting something bad? Auntie, you need to be careful."

Gu Xiaobei felt like laughing. Those two couldn’t harm her unless they conspired with outside forces. However, since so many people advised her, it’s better for her to stay alert.

"It’s okay, I’m not going anywhere. They can’t harm me at all." Gu Xiaobei thought to herself but instead said nonchalantly.

"Still, be careful. Look at what happened this time, I witnessed everything. Aunt Fengmei didn’t exert any force, yet she’s still being implicated by them." Sun Aiqin pouted.

Gu Xiaobei smiled without replying. She would occasionally gossip with Li Fengmei, but she was always on guard around Sun Aiqin.

Even though Sun Aiqin kindly warned her earlier, it was because she had given Sun Aiqin a favor.

Seeing that Gu Xiaobei wasn’t responding and only smiling, Sun Aiqin thought Gu Xiaobei didn’t believe her words. "Auntie, I’m telling the truth. You just can’t ignore it." She said.

As they were talking, Li Fengmei came down the stairs. Seeing Gu Xiaobei, she said hastily, "Auntie, I was just about to look for you. Zhang Lijun said he heard on the radio that there will be a drop in temperature in the next few days. It might snow. We should hurry to harvest the vegetables."

"Is it going to snow this early?" Gu Xiaobei was puzzled. The leaves have not even fallen off completely yet, right?

"Winter comes early here. During our first year here with the troops, it snowed heavily in October, breaking many trees." Li Fengmei explained.

Gu Xiaobei glanced at Sun Aiqin and asked, "Is ten cabbages enough for you?"

"It’s enough, just enough for the two of us," Sun Aiqin felt touched to hear Gu Xiaobei remembering her plight.

"When should we harvest?" Gu Xiaobei turned to Li Fengmei for advice.

"If we’re free now, let’s go to the field and harvest the cabbages. We can let it dry in the field. Otherwise, if we put it directly into the cellar, it will rot easily."

Gu Xiaobei nodded in agreement. Li Fengmei was experienced in these matters, so taking her advice was undoubtedly the right thing to do.

"I’ll go and help you." Sun Aiqin, holding Xiaobao, also wanted to go.

"You should stay at home and take care of Xiaobao. It’s damp in the field. And besides, there isn’t much - just two of us can finish quickly." Li Fengmei suggested, looking at Xiaobao.

Gu Xiaobei went home to get a kitchen knife, Li Fengmei grabbed a spade, and the two of them walked towards the field.

"Sun Aiqin may love a bargain, but she’s not a bad person," Li Fengmei sighed after they walked out of the residential compound.

Gu Xiaobei nodded in agreement. Sun Aiqin was honest about her desire to benefit, which was much better than those who tricked others behind their backs. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

They harvested the cabbages in the field, arranged them leaves-inward and roots-outward in a circle, and piled them up layer by layer. This way, even in sunny weather, they wouldn’t lose their moisture.

After finishing with the cabbages, Gu Xiaobei asked Li Fengmei to bring the kitchen knife back home while she went to the logistics area to pick up the fish that Chang Yuan had brought.

On the way, she ran into Chi Xiaoyue, who had just left the medical team holding a cloth bag, probably going to bring some clean clothes.

Gu Xiaobei didn’t normally want to interact with Chi Xiaoyue, but remembering the disgusting things Wang Chuanjiang had done, she suddenly called out, "Doctor Chi, where are you going?"

Chi Xiaoyue was startled. She didn’t expect Gu Xiaobei to greet her voluntarily. However, thinking of all the troubles she had caused for herself directly and indirectly, she watched Gu Xiaobei warily, "Auntie, do you need something?"

Gu Xiaobei, grinning, waved her hand, "No, no, I saw your cousin working at the Xinhua Bookstore the other day..." She paused, not continuing her sentence, and looked straight at Chi Xiaoyue.

"Yeah, I didn’t expect you two still kept in touch." Chi Xiaoyue didn’t understand Gu Xiaobei’s intention but didn’t want to make things easy for her either.

Gu Xiaobei looked at Chi Xiaoyue disapprovingly. "Oh, you could easily create a misunderstanding by saying those things. You know my Lu Zhanguo is a man of small heart."

Chi Xiaoyue was speechless. She felt that it was too much for Gu Xiaobei to flaunt how much Lu Zhanguo cared about her.

Seeing Chi Xiaoyue not responding, Gu Xiaobei leaned in closer and whispered, "Also, he even said that someone was trying to ruin my reputation."
