Back To The 80s-Chapter 173: Unbearable_1
"Yuan Tan fell silent, her back pressed tightly against the wall, as if it was the only thing keeping her standing. After a while, she finally spoke, "Sister, I regret now. Why did I insist on going abroad? If I hadn’t left, would Lu Zhanguo have married me instead?"
Yuan Ye gave her younger sister a cold glance, "What’s the point in regretting now? Just remember to finish this task properly, then we can escape from the Demon’s control."
The demon Yuan Ye was referring to was her ex-husband, Ansel. When Yuan Ye first met Ansel, it was in a classroom at Ye University. She had joined an English training class at Ye University because of her desire to study abroad. Ansel happened to be the only foreign teacher at the school.
Yuan Ye was deeply attracted to this man who was not only humorous and charming but also exceptionally good-looking. And according to rumors, Ansel’s father was a nobleman who owned a huge vineyard.
Before she even graduated from Ye University, Yuan Ye had already established a romantic relationship with Ansel. Regardless of her father’s threats to disown her, she was resolved to go away with this man.
Seeing her future brother-in-law always giving her sister rare gifts like perfumes and crystal hairpins, Yuan Tan couldn’t help but be swayed. She helped Yuan Ye steal the household registration book from their home, allowing Yuan Ye to secretly apply for a passport.
It was only after Yuan Ye followed Ansel abroad that she discovered he was not only a deceiver, but a demon. His real identity was a minor leader in an espionage organization of country Y.
Ansel took Yuan Ye back to country Y clandestinely, where he subjected her to two years of inhumane torture and training. For the sake of their missions, he made Yuan Ye mingle with different men. This oriental lily was favored by many foreign men.
Yuan Ye didn’t dare resist. In a foreign land with no place to run, she couldn’t communicate with the language, she knew that if she ran and was caught, she would face mental and physical torture.
Yuan Ye didn’t even know who fathered her two children. Every time she watched them, she felt the utmost humiliation and repugnance.
This time, Ansel promised to give her freedom forever if she helped him complete this mission.
Yuan Tan’s experience was similar to hers. At first, Yuan Ye tried hard to persuade her not to go abroad, but Yuan Tan was already blinded by her dreams of a glamorous foreign land. Without heeding the warnings, she reached out to Ansel and determinedly went to country F.
Yuan Ye and Yuan Tan both fell silent, evidently engrossed in their past.
"Sister, are you really going to do it yourself? It’s impossible for you to get in there," Yuan Tan suddenly spoke up.
Still lost in her own world, Yuan Ye’s gaze was fixed on the blue sky outside the window. It took her a while before she responded in in a low voice, "I must be the one to go, I can’t trust anyone else. And Ansel is sly. He didn’t let us know who the White Fox is, afraid that we might bite him back. He is prepared to use us as scapegoats."
"I think the owner of the New China Bookstore in town must know who the White Fox is. We should find the White Fox. This will increase our chances," Yuan Tan suggested.
Yuan Ye glanced at her lightly, her beautiful eyebrows frowned, "You’re thinking too simply. Do you know why my codename is Shark?"
Taken aback, Yuan Tan shook her head, "I thought you would be the head of this operation."
Yuan Ye snorted in derision, "How could Ansel entrust such an important task to someone who wants him dead? I am called Shark only to cover for White Fox, and also to confuse our national security personnel."
Knowing well of Ansel’s vindictiveness, Yuan Tan kept quiet and they fell silent again.
————————
When Shen Heng received a call from Jin Cheng, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. His heart had been in his mouth for the past few days. They agreed to meet in a park in the evening.
Seeing Jin Cheng safe and sound, Shen Heng finally felt relieved. "Alright, you resign from Fuhai and wait for the next task."
Jin Cheng’s attractive peach blossom eyes widened in discontentment, "Big brother Heng, I can’t leave now. I suspect that the person behind Gao Dailin is someone we possibly know."
Shen Heng didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he lit a cigarette and watched the warm lights flickering from a row of houses on the opposite riverbank.
Jin Cheng also didn’t rush. Even though he usually seemed carefree, when it came to serious matters, he was patient like a falcon hiding in tree branches.
It was only after he had smoked half of his cigarette, that Shen Heng finally asked, "Why do you say the person behind Gao Dailin is someone we might know?"
"Gut feeling. Big brother Heng, do you believe it?" Jin Cheng counter-questioned.
"Gut feeling?" Shen Heng repeated these two words with interest then asked, "Do you think we can rely on so-called ’gut feeling’ when we deal with cases?"
"Give me two more weeks, I’ll definitely give you a satisfactory answer." There was an unrefusable determination in Jin Cheng’s eyes.
To his surprise, Shen Heng didn’t know how to decline. Moreover, he knew that even if he did, Jin Cheng wouldn’t listen. Losing himself in his thoughts, it was only when the ash reached his fingers that he came to his senses, "Be careful, don’t act recklessly."
Jin Cheng flashed a satisfied smile, "Don’t worry, brother Heng. There’s no chance for them to make a move during this trip to the south. I assume we won’t be going there anymore. They would not dare to touch me in T City."
Shen Heng nodded, as long as Lu Zhanguo could attract the White Fox and his group, they could lay their net here anytime.
Jin Cheng walked back home cheerily. After this incident, he could finally confront his feelings bravely.
"Stop..." Just as Jin Cheng entered the gate of the city government residential compound, he was stopped by Qin Li who suddenly jumped out.
"What’s the matter, robber?" Jin Cheng teased Qin Li in a very good mood.
"Where have you been these last few days?" Qin Li had been staking out for several nights before she finally caught up with Jin Cheng.
"Girl, can’t you focus on your work instead of doing these pointless things?" he said, reaching out to flick her delicate forehead.
With her hand covering her forehead, Qin Li shot him a glare, "How am I wasting time? I’m contributing to public safety. If I don’t keep an eye on you, and you go out causing trouble, then what?"
"Little girl, your tongue is getting sharper. Let me see if your teeth have become too pointed." Jin Cheng, pretending to pry open Qin Li’s mouth.
Quickly, Qin Li covered her mouth with her other hand, eyes wide with surprise as she stared at Jin Cheng.
"Look at you now, how ugly you are. Yet you still want to marry me? Go home and sleep." Jin Cheng said with a doting smile.
"How am I ugly? Aunt Jin praised me for being beautiful just yesterday!" Qin Li uncovered her mouth and complained with a pout.
"My mom was just trying to comfort you. Go home now, I haven’t had a good sleep in several days, I can’t play with you anymore." Jin Cheng said, treating her like a child while petting her head.
"Then you have to go to the movies with me tomorrow, and I’ll let you go home." Qin Li imperatively suggested.
"No, if I have spare time, I’d rather sleep at home. If you’re not leaving, I’m going first."
Qin Li stayed silent, standing in her spot without moving, watching Jin Cheng enter the building. A smile spread across her face; at least Jin Cheng had a good conversation with her today.
