Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Green Plum_1

Liu Cuicui? Gu Xiaobei was a bit surprised, why is she here? It looks like she’s pregnant again, her waist has noticeably thickened, and her belly is slightly protruding.

It hasn’t been long since her last child, Gu Xiaobei kept twisting her neck, looking through the car window at Liu Cuicui until the car drove away before she turned her head back.

"What are you looking at?" Lu Zhanguo asked, seeing Gu Xiaobei’s neck almost twisted as she looked out.

"Liu Cuicui, why is she at the hospital entrance?" Gu Xiaobei turned her head back and said.

"Li Hao’s wife?" Lu Zhanguo thought quickly, Liu Cuicui, Li Hao, Chi Xiaoyue...

Once in the city, Gu Xiaobei planned to go to Qin Li’s home first. She bought two cans of food, several pounds of meat, and a bag of tea. She asked Lu Zhanguo to drop her off at the entrance of Qin Li’s residential complex.

"I’ll pick you up after five in the afternoon," Lu Zhanguo said while turning the car around.

"Okay." Gu Xiaobei nodded with a smile. She waited until Lu Zhanguo’s car had driven away before turning around to register with the residential complex’s security guard.

Qin Li was off from work today. She lay idly, leafing through old photos of her and Jin Cheng when they were children. Thinking about their conversation yesterday, how long had it been since they last had a calm discussion?

Hearing a knock on the door, she ran to open it, and seeing Gu Xiaobei, she excitedly said, "Sister Xiaobei, what brought you here unexpectedly? I’m home alone and quite bored."

Although Qin Li’s father is the deputy mayor of T City, their house is extremely modest, except for two modern appliances: a 14-inch television and a refrigerator.

"Are your mom, dad, and sister not home?"

"My parents went to my uncle’s place, and my sister has gone to work." Qin Li helped Gu Xiaobei to take off her shoes and change them.

Gu Xiaobei handed over the goods she’d brought: "I brought these since I thought your parents might be home. Put the meat in the refrigerator."

"Why did you bring all these things? You’re being too formal, do you know that? Later, take them back when you leave, for Jiujiu and the others to eat," Qin Li said, taking the goods.

"For them, I’ll buy later when I return."

Qin Li put away the goods, then pulled Gu Xiaobei into her bedroom. It was an old-fashioned three-bedroom apartment, each room was small, but the living room was quite large.

The bedroom of Qin Li was on the north side. It had a normal wooden double bed, a light blue writing desk, and a wooden wardrobe with three doors and a mirror.

"All the photos on your bed are from your childhood." As soon as Gu Xiaobei entered the room, she was attracted by several small black and white photos scattered on the bed.

"This one is me, and this one is Jin Cheng." Qin Li pointed at the photos in Gu Xiaobei’s hand.

The black and white photos were only about three inches in size. There was a very handsome little boy about eleven or twelve years old, holding a wooden gun with a proud face looking at the camera, next to him was a chubby little girl, pouting with an unhappy face.

"Jin Cheng was really good looking when he was little. Why were you pouting?" Gu Xiaobei asked curiously.

"Because he said he wouldn’t take a picture with a fat girl, so I wasn’t happy." Qin Li chuckled.

"Look at this one. He had just been spanked by his father. When I was laughing at him, my uncle took a picture of us." Qin Li picked up one picture and showed it to Gu Xiaobei. The handsome little boy had a stubborn expression on his face, and the little chubby girl behind him was covering her mouth and laughing.

"And this one, during the New Year, when Uncle Li’s son pushed me and got my new clothes dirty. I was sitting on the floor crying, Jin Cheng came over to wipe my tears. My uncle A man took a candid photo of us." Qin Li showed Gu Xiaobei another photo. There was a chubby little girl sitting on the ground, crying with her eyes closed. The beautiful little boy was squatting on the side, wiping the girl’s tears with a handkerchief with a disgusted face.

Looking at the two of them in the photos, Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help but sigh. What a beautiful childhood they had spent together.

"Later, my uncle got too busy with his work and didn’t play with the camera much anymore, so we didn’t take any more pictures together." Qin Li sounded a bit regretful.

Gu Xiaobei also hoped that this pair of childhood playmates would end up together: "How are you and Jin Cheng doing recently?"

"Same as always, I chase him, and he runs away." Qin Li shrugged helplessly.

"Keep going, I hope one day Jin Cheng will notice your good qualities." Gu Xiaobei really didn’t know what else to say.

"My strong point is my persistence. How could I give up?" Qin Li chuckled and said, "What about your Gun God?"

"He went to see Shen Heng."

"Come on, let’s go out to eat." Qin Li is always full of ideas; immediately getting up and pulling Gu Xiaobei out.

"You go slowly, couldn’t we just make something to eat at home?" Gu Xiaobei suggested.

"No way, when my mom comes back and finds out that you cook better, she’ll scold me again." Qin Li immediately shook her head like a rattle drum, rejecting Gu Xiaobei’s suggestion.

Gu Xiaobei was speechless and could only change her shoes and follow Qin Li downstairs.

"By the way, let’s go to E Restaurant to eat." Qin Li suggested.

"Sure, I still owe you from last time, so I’ll make up for it this time." Gu Xiaobei said with a smile.

The E Restaurant, as usual, didn’t have many customers. As soon as Gu Xiaobei and Qin Li entered the restaurant, they saw Lu Zhanguo and a woman sitting in a corner.

Just as Qin Li was about to point them out to Gu Xiaobei, Gu Xiaobei yanked her away and found a place to sit down in the opposite direction.

"Isn’t that your Gun God? Why aren’t you going over?" Qin Li asked Gu Xiaobei curiously.

"Keep your voice down, he’s probably dealing with official business." Gu Xiaobei thought about the glance Lu Zhanguo had given them when they had just entered, calm and unperturbed, just like looking at a complete stranger.

"Isn’t that woman good looking? Should I go over and have a look?" Gu Xiaobei really wanted to use a big bag to block Qin Li’s chattering mouth.

"Just order food." Gu Xiaobei handed Qin Li the menu that the waiter had brought to stop her from talking.

"I haven’t eaten here before, whatever you order, I’ll eat." Qin Li glanced at the menu and said.

Gu Xiaobei ordered an apple-flavored Aureji, a pine knot cake, a pile of pickles, a marinated fish-- but this restaurant’s marinated fish was made of ordinary carp, not salmon or herring. Many of the ingredients in this restaurant were locally sourced. They used foreign names, but the ingredients were whatever was available. She also ordered a smoked sausage, a sandwich, and two servings of Borscht soup.

After ordering the food, Gu Xiaobei was actually curious what the woman across from Lu Zhanguo looked like. She couldn’t help but peek from the side of her high-backed sofa. As she did, she caught Lu Zhanguo’s intense gaze. She quickly shrank back after sticking out her tongue.

"I thought you weren’t curious. Why are you peeking?" Qin Li finally caught the chance to laugh at Gu Xiaobei.

Gu Xiaobei gave her a disdainful glance: "If you keep talking, you’ll be paying for the meal."

Qin Li laughed: "Absolutely not, you owe me this meal."

By the time all the dishes were ready, Qin Li looked at the knife and fork and said to the waiter, "Please bring me a pair of chopsticks."

Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help but laugh; she loved Qin Li’s candour.

Qin Li tried a few dishes with her chopsticks, and her face crinkled up like a little dumpling. "I wish we’d gone for beef noodles instead."

Gu Xiaobei nodded: "I also think beef noodles would taste better than this. When we get back, let’s go to Capital City for some. I’m sure it would taste better than this."

"Okay, as long as you’re footing the bill." Qin Li grinned.
