Awakening Domination System: But I'm a Slave?-Chapter 43: Nyra [1]
Chapter 43: Nyra [1]
A lone carriage rumbled along a dirt path, its wheels creaking softly against the uneven ground.
The sky above was clear, early morning mist still clinging to the edges of the forest lining the road.
Inside the carriage, a young man lounged with his legs crossed, Renard, dressed in fine but rumpled clothes, one elbow propped against the window, his chin resting against his gloved fist.
Across from him sat a man in armor, his posture straighter, older, and more weathered.
One of his personal guards.
"Young master, what about the slave girl?" the guard asked, voice low.
Renard didn’t even glance at him. His eyes were fixed on the passing trees. "Doesn’t matter. We’ll send someone later to inform them what happened. Or lie. Whatever works. They can have her for now, I just want to see how she will endure that baron, heh."
The guard said nothing.
Then Renard broke the silence again. "That Direfang... why was it even there?" His tone was light, but there was a flicker of annoyance in his eyes.
"They don’t usually come near human territory."
The armored man rubbed his grayed beard thoughtfully.
"It’s likely displaced. Could be another predator that spooked it out. Or-"
Before the guard could finish, Renard clicked his tongue and leaned back with a shrug.
"Tch. Not that I care. Let the barony deal with it."
Then the conversation drifted.
They spoke briefly of travel plans, supply routes, and the upcoming banquet at Count Elrevin’s estate.
Renard seemed only half-interested, replying in lazy drawls, his mind was clearly elsewhere.
But beneath that calm exterior, his eyes glinted with something else.
A flicker of annoyance.
A trace of... unfinished satisfaction.
Like something, or someone, had slipped out of his grasp.
And that didn’t sit well with him. Not at all.

Inside the Glimor Estate...
The study room was dimly lit, warmed by the soft golden glow of lanterns.
Rich maroon drapes hung from tall arched windows, only half drawn, allowing thin beams of light to filter in.
Bookshelves lined the sides of the room, filled with tomes and ledgers.
A faint scent of ink, wax, and aged parchment lingered in the air.
Selene sat at a broad, dark oak desk, its surface cluttered with scrolls, stamped documents, and half-drained inkwells.
She wore a deep green gown, modest yet elegant, her Raven-black hair tied into a tight bun at the nape of her neck.
Her Emerald-green eyes were sharp, fixed on the document she was scribbling a note across before sealing it with a crimson wax emblem.
Then, without a sound, the air rippled faintly, like water disturbed by a falling leaf.
A figure in a dark hooded cloak emerged from the shadow behind her.
Selene didn’t flinch. Her hand didn’t even pause mid-stamp.
"How did it go, Sari?" she asked in a cool and composed voice.
The hooded figure dropped to one knee, head lowered in reverence.
And then began describing what happened, from the moment Alaric and others left the barony and...
"They escaped shortly after the others entered the woods, my lady, that boy took the girl and fled through the forest. Two guards gave them chase."
Selene finally set the stamp aside and turned, giving her full attention.
"He killed both of them with surprising precision, and sword skills." Sari continued. "And then... they encountered a pack of beasts. He defended the girl alone, until they found a cave to take shelter."
Selene’s brow lifted faintly.
"Then," Sari said, her voice tightening slightly, "Renard found them. He brought his guards. And was about to take the girl by force."
"But..." Sari paused. "The cave was attacked by a Dreadmaw Direfang."
Selene blinked.
That caught her off guard.
What that creature was doing out there?
Sari nodded. "Renard used the distraction to escape. He threw the estate guards at the beast to buy time, then sealed the entrance behind him with debris."
Selene’s lips parted slightly.
"And the boy?"
"He survived," Sari said.
A brief silence passed.
"He killed the beast with a single strike, my lady."
Hearing the information Sari delivered, Selene froze for just a moment, her usually composed face betraying a flicker of emotion.
What the! He killed a Terror class beast on his own?
Her eyes widened slightly, but she masked them quickly.
Then, silently, she placed her quill down onto the desk.
"Where is the boy now?" she asked without turning.
Sari, still kneeling, responded evenly. "They are at my cottage, on the outskirts of the barony."
Selene nodded slowly, "Good. Bring the girl here. Let her resume her duties as usual. But keep the boy there for now, and notify me the moment he wakes."
Sari gave a faint nod. "As you command."
And like a passing shadow, she vanished without another word.
Selene exhaled, slow and long, then stood from her chair.
Her gown rustled softly as she stepped out of the study.
Click! Click!
Her heels clicking lightly against the floor of the corridor.
She walked with quiet purpose through the hallways of Glimor estate, passing attendants who bowed swiftly as she passed.
None dared speak to her. Her presence alone demanded silence.
Eventually, she reached the guest wing.
The room where Renard had been staying in.
Then without any hesitation, she opened the door and stepped inside.
A cool breeze swept through the cracked window, stirring the sheer curtains.
Inside, a girl with Midnight-blue hair sat chained to the bedpost, her body slumped but not lifeless.
She leaned weakly against the wooden frame, her wrists bound in iron cuffs.
Her violet eyes fluttered open at the sound of the door creaking.
Her gaze met Selene’s.
"Hello there," Selene said calmly, stepping forward, her voice neither kind nor cruel, merely measured. "You’re awake."
The girl blinked slowly.
Selene came closer, her eyes studying the girl’s condition. "You’re Renard’s slave, aren’t you?"
The girl didn’t respond, only looked at Selene with guarded and tired eyes.
"Good," Selene murmured. "You’ll answer a few questions for me."
She pulled up the lone chair beside the bed and sat, folding one leg over the other.
There was a faint smile on her lips now.
