Chapter 174: Chapter 174 Harvesting Starleaf Flowers

Alexander and Chris shot each other one last glare before following Ling Xuan.

Alexander hurried to walk beside her. "I was so scared that I lost you. You shouldn’t do that next time."

Ling Xuan didn’t bother to spare him a glance, or even a single word.

Alexander bit his lower lip, unsure of how to gain her attention. Before the apocalypse, he was known as the most handsome bachelor in the country, wanted and loved by every woman.

Even now since the meteor shower, he believed he hadn’t lost his charm. Despite their misunderstanding, he was very much aware of Laurel’s affection towards him.

And his heart clenched bitterly, as he couldn’t bring himself to believe she had stopped loving him.

’Maybe this is just one of her tricks of playing hard to get. Yes, that must be it, there is no way she would leave a healthy sexy man like me over a half-dead man.’

"So..."

Before he could finish his words, two protective helmets appeared in Ling Xuan’s hands. "Here." She handed it to them.

Alexander’s face contorted with shock, and it wasn’t just him, Chris’s brows furrowed at the helmets that had suddenly appeared from thin air.

Ling Xuan knew there was no way she could lie to them, without getting caught. Even if she had come with the helmet, they would question where she had gotten it from. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"I have the ability to conjure things and store things." Ling Xuan said.

"Are you an awakened like Stefan?" Chris asked, tilting his head to the side slightly.

"Yes." Ling Xuan said curtly.

The frown on their faces slowly faded away, as they collected the masks from her.

"How long have you noticed these abilities?" Alexander asked, his fingers wrapping a little tightly around the helmet.

"I don’t answer to you."

Those words made Alexander clench his teeth in anger. He hated the fact that she didn’t show him any respect or at least be a little considerate towards him.

"Thank you," Chris said, breaking the tension that was already forming between them.

Ling Xuan gave a curt nod before increasing her pacing. After walking for another for some time they finally arrived at the front of the passageway to the Snow Lotus.

Ling Xuan turned around, her narrowed gaze drifting across their faces. "Your job is to stay here and harvest those red and purplish flowers."

Alexander’s gaze moved slowly towards the starleaf flowers, his eyes darkening. Of all things, she wanted him to harvest flowers? A powerful man like him uprooting flowers?

"And make sure the roots are not damaged. It is not yet confirmed if they are toxic or not, so try not to die." Ling Xuan said, already loving the ’try not to die’ phrase.

Before any of them could speak, the crop panel on her wrist flickered with a blue light.

[Crop status: Starleaf flowers

Toxicity: 70%

Tools best for harvesting: Hand fork, Hori-Hori knife, clean buckets, and transplanting trowels.

Starleaf flowers: ready for harvest {100%}]

Ling Xuan glanced at the crop panel.

’Laurel do we have those tools in our storage?’ She asked inwardly.

’We have the hand fork, the buckets, and transplanting towels.’ Laurel replied from within her head.

’Quickly purchase the things we don’t have and a crop manual on how to harvest these flowers.’

"What are you staring at?" Chris asked, his gaze lingering on her.

"Nothing." Ling Xuan raised her head.

’I have made the purchase.’ Laurel said, and in the next seconds, the tools appeared in front of Ling Xuan.

"These are the tools you are going to use, read the manual on what to do. I’ll see you guys after I retrieve the Snow Lotus." She said turning around to leave.

"Why should we be harvesting flowers? Let us get the Snow Lotus for you." Alexander walked closer to her.

"No. And no more discussion about it." Ling Xuan glanced at Chris only to find him already using the hand fork to harvest the flowers.

"You are not going to use the manual?" Ling Xuan couldn’t help but ask.

"I know a thing or two about plants. You don’t have to worry that I will destroy the roots." He said with a calm smile.

"Good." Ling Xuan, shooting Alexander, a look that said isn’t that a man too, stop being a jerk and get to work.

Alexander’s throat went dry as if it were suddenly parched with sand. He couldn’t utter a word, and could only stare at Ling Xuan’s figure as she disappeared into the cave.

"Call for us if you encounter any danger." He shouted, hoping she would hear him.

Alexander turned around, glaring daggers at Chris who was meticulously harvesting the flowers. "Is this your plan of winning her heart? By turning me into a whining mess?"

"Oh, you know you are a whining mess?" Chris asked innocently, his eyes fixed on the flowers. "At least you have self-awareness."

Alexander clenched his jaw tightly and the gritting sound of his teeth echoed across the air.

He inhaled sharply before squatting on his knees. "Don’t make me regret not killing you." He said as he picked up the flower harvesting manual.

His brows furrowed together as he read the instructions. His expression turned grimmer by every passing moment, as he couldn’t understand what the hell he was supposed to do.

He picked up the Hori-hori knife, but when he tried to use it to harvest, he ended up cutting the flower’s stem instead of using it to loosen the soil around the roots.

His eyes widened in guilt as he quickly dropped the knife. He picked up the hand fork and tried to imitate Chris but failed miserably.

He glanced at Chris’s way. There was no way he was going to ask him for his help. But if he did nothing, wouldn’t it make Laurel like and praise Chris while he would be chided and possibly lose more of her affection?

He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. "How should I do it?" He muttered under his breath as he couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud.

"Did you say something?" Chris asked with a straight face.

Alexander cleared his throat. "I said show me how to harvest the plants. I can’t f**king understand what the hell is written in the instruction manual." He said with a loud voice.

Chris scoffed. "Why don’t you first kowtow and call me master?"
