Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 173 Snow Lotus Detected
"I wonder if these plants have any useful purposes," Laurel added.
"Even if they do, we don’t have the time for them. We must find a way out and retrieve the Snow Lotus before finding the others. Who knows if they are safe... we can’t afford to waste any more time." Ling Xuan said curtly.
Laurel sighed.
As Ling Xuan walked deeper into the cave, the path began to diverge towards the right, slightly becoming wider, and was covered with the strange red and purplish plants.
[Special environment detected.]
The system’s screen suddenly popped up in Ling Xuan’s face, making her grimace in annoyance.
[Condition: Grade B plants detected... Useful for trade exchange and for health conditions.]
[Initializing mission.]
[Mission 011: Harvest Grade B plants {Starleaf flowers} without damaging their essence.
Reward: {10000 points}
Coins: {300}
Ability: {Florist}.]
Ling Xuan stared at the screen with an unimpressed look. "We don’t have time for this." She said coldly.
[Failure to complete the mission will lead to a seven-day shutdown of the system. Disrupting the syncing compatibility between hosts.]
Ling Xuan’s eyes darkened. "You are really a pain in the a**."
"I never knew you had started using foul words," Laurel said, her voice sounding a little tired but the excitement underneath her tone was evident.
However, Laurel’s words only made Ling Xuan more annoyed.
[Time: 4:30:56]
[I’ll advise hosts to hurry up and retrieve the Snow Lotus and complete the mission as the oxygen level in the air is dropping with every step further into the cave.
Hosts should remember to wear masks as the environment contains harmful substances.]
"What are..."
Before Ling Xuan could finish her question the system disappeared into thin air.
Her hands clenched around the sword in her hand. "So we need the two jerks after all." Ling Xuan muttered under her breath.
"I can’t get used to you using modern slang." Laurel’s voice echoed in her head. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"You don’t have to." Ling Xuan muttered, stopping in her tracks.
She turned around to the path she was coming from. Her eyes narrowed coldly.
She returned her gaze to the path in front of her, and another entrance was just a few meters away from her. But it was strangely darker with smoke oozing from it.
She frowned slightly. A chime from the crop panel caught her attention. She raised her hand to her line of sight only to see that the Snow Lotus was inside the entrance.
’It is already more than half an hour.’
Ling Xuan’s gaze lingered at the passage entrance for a second too long before turning on her heels, heading back to the path she came from.
...
Meanwhile, back at the three passage entrances, Alexander and Chris remained standing opposite each other.
The tension was so thick that a knife could slice through it.
"You really want to do this with me?" Chris asked with amusement dancing in the depths of his eyes.
He had never intended to chase after Laurel, although he couldn’t deny the strange feelings in his chest whenever he thought of her or saw her.
But he was mainly interested in finding out if she really was the one he had been searching for all this time or not.
And he was a man of integrity and value, he would never take another man’s wife no matter his feelings. So he couldn’t help but wonder how dumb Alexander was for throwing the ball into his court.
"Already afraid to back out?" Alexander narrowed his eyes at him, as if he was using his gaze to pin him to the wall.
Chris smirked at his words. "Three months then..." he paused. "Don’t you think the stake is too low, what about raising it?"
Alexander frowned slightly as he didn’t like the look on Chris’s face. "How?"
"The winner gets everything that belongs to the loser... power and resources." A glint flashed through Chris’s eyes.
’Bastard. Always making the best of every deal.’
"Sure, not just that, the loser also gets to become the winner’s slave," Alexander added with a devilish smirk.
"Agreed." Chris nodded.
Silence stretched between them as the air cracked with their auras clashing against each other.
Alexander exhaled calmly before leaning his back against the wall. "Speaking about the Mega deal, you were just lucky to get it."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, of course. The only reason you won is because of your underground power, no company would dare refuse your request. That is the only reason you won." Alexander said with an annoyed click of his tongue.
"You believe so? If it wasn’t because of my competence, then you could have won. After all, you also have your own underground connections.
Though not on par with mine... in other words, both in terms of power and business competence, you are not my match." Chris replied calmly.
His words seemed to rub Alexander the wrong way. "That might be true, but don’t forget Laurel is not like those CEOs, once she learns of your true nature, she will immediately send you out of the fortress." He said, pushing himself off the wall, closing the distance between them.
The smile on Chris’s lips did not falter, though they never reached his eyes. "Is that why you pulled the childish stunt back in the fortress?"
"That wasn’t me. Perhaps you have more enemies than you thought." Alexander said with a straight face.
They both sized each other up, neither unwilling to back down first.
"Okay, what now?" Ling Xuan’s voice cut through the tension, shattering it like glass.
Alexander immediately spun on his heels towards Ling Xuan. "Laurel, you are back." He said, his gaze softening.
Chris stepped back a little, but his gaze lingered on her face.
"I found the Snow Lotus. Come with me." She said not bothering to wait for them to follow.
She didn’t bother to ask what that was all about...no she didn’t care. They could rip each other’s throats out and she wouldn’t bat an eye.
