Apocalypse Landlord: My Tenants Are All Beautiful Heroines.-Chapter 69: Sonic Boom
Meanwhile, at the survivor camp... 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
The morale in the survivor camp was worse than ever before. The slum was gone, but its gloom had been overtaken by the other areas.
The economic activities of the camp had come to a standstill. The entrances to the campus had to be welded shut to prevent anyone from taking advantage of their frail situation.
The armory that was once full now barely had any weapons. While they had food, most of it had been taken away by the mob incited by Karina.
In short, the place that stood proud for a year in the apocalypse was taking its final breaths. What little remained had already been taken over by Old Joe and his pals.
"That bitch..." Old Joe cursed, sitting on a broken cart, snacking on MRE gummies. "How dare she betray me like this? If not for me, she would have become an animal! An animal!"
People walked by, throwing him dirty glances. Why was he cursing at Karina? If he had truly been good to her, why would she leave the camp to join some other place else?
Everyone thought the same thing, but no one dared to voice it. After all, what few guns they had were under Old Joe’s control.
Jus then, a young lookout perched on a rickety watchtower shouted at the top of his lungs.
"The bird! The giant bird is back!"
Suddenly, no one cared about Joe or Karina or the impending doom. People dropped whatever they were doing and scurried for shade as it was the only protection they had against such birds.
Only a few people with guns dared to peek from the shelter. Seconds passed, but nothing happened. People slowly walked out, just to hear a loud boom from the sky.
"What in the hell was that...?" Old Joe muttered, stepping out of safety at last.
No sooner did he say that than something came crashing towards him from above.
The old man’s eyes widened in horror, thinking it was the bird. He stumbled backwards, but his foot caught on a rock. With a startled yelp, he lost his balance and fell flat on his back.
The thing from above crashed to the earth, sending a cloud of dust everywhere. When the dust cleared, people saw a wooden rod buried halfway into the ground... inches away from Old Joe’s crotch.
Old Joe lay there, frozen in shock, staring at the wooden shaft that had nearly turned him into a eunuch.
The entire camp stared in stunned silence for three full seconds. Then someone in the back let out a nervous laugh. Soon, another person joined in, then another, and another.
Within moments, the gloomy survivor camp was filled with shaky, relieved laughter as people slowly emerged from their hiding spots, pointing at their leader’s ridiculous position.
"SHUT IT!" Old Joe yelled. "GET BACK TO WORK, ALL OF YOU!"
***
A few seconds ago, at the apartment building...
"Mila, if you will," Aiden said, extending his hands while his eyes remained focused on the bird.
Milarel gracefully nodded and handed a makeshift spear to him. Aiden took the spear, hefted it twice in his palm to check its weight and balance, then gave a small nod.
"Not perfect... but it’ll get the job done."
While the bird watched him, Aiden took a few steps back before planting his right leg on the terrace floor. He held the spear above his shoulder, next to his face, as he stared at the bird.
Meanwhile, Milarel quickly covered her ears.
"Please do the same," she asked the other two women.
Both Karina and Alisha figured out what Aiden wanted to do. He was going to throw the spear at the bird.
However, they didn’t understand why.
There was no way he could possibly hit the bit so far up just by throwing a spear. Even if he could, why would they need to cover their ears?
Still, under Milarel’s insistence, they did the same and stepped back. No one noticed a tail-like wisp emerging from Mila’s back as she muttered an incantation.
Meanwhile, Aiden exhaled twice before charging forward. The muscles in his right arm bulged inhumanely, almost like balloons. The girls couldn’t even process that when there was a loud boom.
A shockwave erupted from Aiden’s hand the moment the spear left his grip. The loud boom was generated from the spear as it shattered through the sound barrier. The spear shot upward, leaving a faint white trail in the sky.
The shockwave hit the smaller barrier made by Milarel and dissipated. However, the rest of the building wasn’t as lucky. Every window and railing of the building shook from the aftershock.
[Auto-repair in progress...]
The words flashed before Aiden’s eyes, but he wasn’t looking at them. The spear shot towards the bird, but due to its poor construction, it lost direction, and instead of hitting the bird, it whizzed past it before breaking apart somewhere in the sky.
"Tsk, missed it," Aiden mumbled, snapping his fingers.
The massive bird remained frozen to its spot. The humans of Earth said the monsters didn’t feel fear, yet the bird’s wide eyes contradicted that statement.
A more accurate statement would be: the monsters didn’t feel fear because nothing had ever given them a reason to.
It was the same for the bird until the moment he felt the spear fly by.
"I’ve been out of practice for too long," Aiden sighed, rolling his shoulders before picking up another spear. "I won’t miss this time. Oh, by the way, Alisha and Karina, you should try it as well. It’s quite fun!"
Fun was just an excuse. Aiden actually wanted to check whether the partner bonus was working well.
The two girls slowly lowered their hands from their ears, faces pale and jaws hanging open. Their earlier naughty thoughts about Aiden’s shirtless body had been completely blasted away by the sheer absurdity of what they had just witnessed.
"...this is ridiculous," Alisha mumbled out of disbelief.
