Chapter 53: 117 Refugees

"Damn... her ass was made of iron or what?" Aiden cursed, flexing his fingers.

He had just gotten out of the shower after the disgusting ordeal with Amaela. Since vampires’ bodies were inherently different from a human’s, what she threw out was blood, smelly, diluted blood.

The more he spanked her, the more she ejaculated. By the time Aiden got back to his unit, his pants were already soaked.

[You say that now, but you were quite enjoying it back then.]

"Did I ask for your opinion?"

[...]

The system wasn’t lying. Aiden was enjoying himself because he was punishing a vampire after a long time. Besides, back in his early days in the Otherworld, Carmila had done the same to him.

Now, while hitting Amaela, Aiden imagined he was hitting Carmila instead. When he did that, the usually mute teacher shot back at him. Only then did he stop hitting Amaela.

I didn’t expect her to cling to my legs and even try to bite me when I refused to hit her more.

The punishment was for Amaela to realize what she had done wrong. Instead, she might have gotten addicted to being spanked.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Aiden waved his hand, and the doors opened, surprising Marcus.

"Sir, you called?" he asked, staying outside.

"Yes," Aiden replied, waving him over. "Come inside."

Marcus hurriedly opened his shoes before stepping inside. He couldn’t take his eyes off the luxuries Aiden had. While their units weren’t bad, much better than any place on earth, Aiden’s unit was like a palace in the apocalypse.

He even had a large TV on which a children’s learning game was going on. The game came pre-installed on the Playbox5, which now belonged to Lily. Alisha was there too, lounging on the sofa next to Lily.

Is this... really the same world we live in?

If not for the ruined landscape Marcus could see from the windows, he would think it was a dream or some alternate dimension.

"Sit."

Aiden’s words snapped Marcus out of his thoughts as he took a seat across the table.

"I would like to know more about this butcher gang you spoke of," Aiden said, getting straight to the point.

Aiden’s thinking was simple. He would deal with the gang first and get those evolvers on his side. Once they were dealt with, he would turn his attention to capturing Joe’s camp.

With the immediate area under his control, he could then think about expanding throughout the city and go on from there. That population would be enough to upgrade his class quite a bit.

"Um, sir, I’m not sure I should say all this in front of a child—"

No sooner had those words left Marcus’s lips than Alisha got up and switched off the console.

"Mommm!"

"It’s time for your afternoon nap. Come before Aiden gets angry."

Lily pouted, but since Aiden always gave her sweets if she behaved, she followed Alisha into one of the rooms without any fuss.

"Go on. Tell me about them."

With a deep breath, Marcus began telling him whatever he knew.

As the name suggested, they were a bunch of criminals who evolved right after the dawn of the apocalypse. When the prisons lost power, they broke out, killing guards, inmates, and even monsters in their way.

Once free, they quickly formed groups and took control of nearby areas. The butcher gang was one such group.

They raided survivor camps, stealing food, medicine, weapons, and anything valuable.

Some of them set up fake ’safe zones’ just to lure desperate people in, only to rob them or force them into labor.

They kidnapped survivors and made them work as scavengers, sending them into dangerous zones to gather supplies.

Those who refused to do or were unable to work as either labor or scavengers were beaten and used as bait for monsters.

There was a time they even controlled all the pharmacies and used to sell fake medicines to the few camps that actually withstood their onslaught.

If not for Karina, the wolves and other evolvers, the camp would have fallen to them long ago, and they would still be controlling all the medicines in the nearby area.

"Ok, so let me see if I got this straight," Aiden said once Marcus was done. "They are like any other survivor camp, only their so-called ’economy’ is based on terrorizing other bases around them."

"Yes, sir. They are the worst of the worst—"

"They are a useful bunch, then."

The words of condemnation froze on Marcus’s lips.

Those criminals were useful? Sure, most of them were evolvers, but one shouldn’t go looking for rabid dogs for the sake of their strength.

In Marcus’s mind, it was better to train common folk rather than attempting to tame a beast.

No, Aiden isn’t normal.

Marcus did remember the moment he surrendered himself to Aiden. The man he was would have rather fought him to death for what he did. Yet, there he was, willingly serving Aiden.

If Aiden could turn someone of his character into a loyal puppy, those rascals without morals would be even easier to control. Perhaps that’s why Aiden was interested in them.

"As long as they signed a contract, they can’t do shit," Aiden said, as if reading Marcus’s mind. "Besides, disbanding a gang like that would work in everyone’s favor, wouldn’t it?"

Marcus was stunned, half in fear and the other half in awe. But before he could sing praises of the man in front, Aiden’s attention was diverted elsewhere.

[Warning: An unknown number of individuals are heading towards Host’s residence.]

Aiden opened the map and saw a massive ’horde’ heading his way. Yet, unlike the system, he wasn’t alarmed. After all, Karina’s marker was leading them while Glenn and Damian were guarding the crowd from behind.

"How many are there?" Aiden asked the system, a smile forming on his lips.

[117 unknown individuals have been accounted for so far.]

"I didn’t expect her to bring so many people at once," he said, getting up and turning towards Marcus. "It seems this building is about to get crowded for once."
