Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train-Chapter 1090 - 415: Sea Fortress (Part 3)
The edge of the flight deck was welded with heavy armor plates, forming a steel wall about two meters high to prevent waves and potential monster attacks. There were shooting holes and machine gun towers at intervals, as well as high-energy arc cutting cables for defense. On the sentry towers, many fully armed patrol members held weapons, scanning the sea cautiously.
The original island superstructure had been leveled off partly, with solar panels and wind generators added on top, seemingly an auxiliary power source besides nuclear energy. Lin Xian understood instantly that although this big guy had a nuclear reactor, nuclear energy was an extremely conspicuous presence. Next to this aircraft carrier, there was also a supply ship and several small boats.
The most breathtaking sight was that the deck originally intended for aircraft parking had been transformed into neat planting areas, with soil held in specially designed metal planting troughs, growing various vegetables, wheat, and even a few dwarf fruit trees. Even before approaching, Lin Xian and his group could see from a distance many survivors in simple protective suits working in the planting zones, some watering, some harvesting, painting a vivid picture of a post-apocalyptic farm.
"They are growing vegetables... at sea?" Da Lou’s voice was full of surprise.
"Food can’t rely solely on raiding, or we’ll starve sooner or later," Vanessa explained. "We have our own freshwater purification system paired with solar greenhouses, so we’re basically self-sufficient."
"Are you navigating adaptively?" Lin Xian immediately asked when seeing this scene, "You probably didn’t activate the nuclear reactor, did you?"
"Correct."
Vanessa said, "We progress slowly using tugboats and ocean currents; we’re not in a hurry, and this method is also the safest. It’s like a floating island at sea, plus we have underwater sonar and drone sentries, which makes the overall safety much higher than on land."
"How did you find this aircraft carrier?" Lin Xian inquired.
"Not really found, but seized," Gedi’s voice came through. "Initially, this aircraft carrier belonged to a large organization, plundering resources everywhere. The Sea Group leader was a scumbag, making himself into a sea emperor. We later cleared up this organization, and the ship became ours. We spent quite a lot of time renovating it, and now it’s the main shelter for our Hawk Sea Group."
Vanessa utilized radio to contact the Neptune, and soon Lin Xian noticed many people emerging onto the front deck. An empty platform was opened, and Lin Xian’s group descended from the sky onto this aircraft carrier.
Seeing a whole group of people in advanced flying power armor land, many survivors on the Neptune started to gather around. A group of heavily armed staff and mecha operators lined up on both sides, and Vanessa’s flying motorcycle landed steadily on the "Neptune" aircraft carrier deck, followed closely by Lin Xian’s group. The power armor propeller sprayed out light blue tail flames, drawing dazzling streaks under the sunlight.
The deck was already crowded with members of the Hawk Sea Group, who were either holding guns on alert or looking curiously, all focusing on this group of people clad in advanced Iron Man armor who descended from the sky. Leading them was a blond, blue-eyed young white man, wearing a tactical vest, an aviator’s sunglasses perched on his head, with a roguish smile on his lips, resembling a doomsday version of Tom Cruise. Several formidable-looking people followed behind him.
These people had varied skin tones, yellow, black, and white, and some, like Gedi, were covered in prosthesis-modified soldiers. They seemed to know that this group of visiting strangers had extraordinary identities and surrounded Lin Xian’s team with scrutinizing gazes.
"Ryan." Gedi first introduced the leading young white man to Lin Xian, who had taken off his power armor mask, "Our BOSS."
Ryan looked at Lin Xian with a surprised face, staring blankly for a while, then suddenly frowned and asked, "Are you Lin Xian?"
Lin Xian raised an eyebrow, "You know me?"
"Know you? Of course, I know you!" Ryan laughed heartily, "The Phoenix Society’s Sword Holder, conductor of the Infinite Train, the legendary figure who rescued a hundred thousand people from Star Abyss No.5! Even though we, the Hawk Sea Group, are far out at sea, we’ve heard other survivor organizations mentioning your name frequently on the radio!"
Behind him, a tall woman with a high ponytail folded her arms coldly, "Sword Holder? Doesn’t look that special to me."
Ryan glanced back at her, "Erica, don’t be so rude."
Erica shrugged, "Just speaking the truth."
She then looked at Lin Xian, "Did Dawn City really withstand attacks from three Star Abyss, and I heard you even took down a corpse chaser?"
"What’s so unbelievable about that?" KIKI responded, questioning.
"Of course it’s unbelievable." A tattooed hulk with a knot of hair, resembling a Viking, crossed his arms behind Ryan, baring a mouthful of iron teeth, "Some organizations don’t believe humans can take down a corpse chaser, thinking these battle reports are just the Phoenix Society’s tricks to rally confidence."
"Azlan, our Armed Mechanician," Ryan stated, then sighed, "There are still quite a few pessimists, some people think if humans could take down corpse chasers, then there wouldn’t be anything in Star Abyss that humans couldn’t handle, heh, all a bunch of fools, don’t worry about them."
"Oh, the self-comfort of pessimists, indeed quite normal," Monica calmly said on Lin Xian’s side upon hearing that, "Star Abyss 13 spans the largest area but expands the slowest. According to your assertion, the pressure on a sea refuge should not be much."
"Miss, you couldn’t be more wrong," Ryan took a deep breath, gesturing towards the planting areas and defense posts on the rear deck, and said, "Keeping so many people alive is no easy task. We can’t dock and have to rely on field teams to scavenge for resources. Sea Rock City has long been scavenged into a ghost town, how can there be no pressure?"
Sha Sha hopped off the suspension scaffold of the Flying Peach mecha, loosened her power armor visage, and grinned, "Wow, such a big aircraft carrier, and you’re actually growing vegetables on it."
"No choice," Ryan shrugged, smiling and spreading his hands towards Lin Xian’s group, "We can’t even fish for food."
"Who knows what you might catch?" Azlan grinned, "After Black Water, there’s nothing alive to eat, unless you raise it with filtered water. Our ship has a dedicated farming area, but with so many people, it’s simply not enough."
"Vanessa," Erica looked at Vanessa, "Why did you bring the Phoenix Society’s Sword Holder back, any particular intention?"
"They intend to develop the Crystal Grid," Gedi spoke up first, addressing Ryan, "We encountered some trouble last night; it was Villand’s people, and Captain Lin saved us."
Ryan nodded upon hearing that, gazing intently at Lin Xian, "OK, just that, in the field of Crystal Lattice, the Phoenix Society should have more say than us."
"I wasn’t paying attention to this matter before, and the Phoenix Society hasn’t been public about it, so I wanted to learn more," Lin Xian said.
"I see," Ryan looked at Vanessa, then chuckled, "Vanessa?"
"Yes, I told Captain Lin about the hunting," Vanessa said.
"I figured as much."
"Are you really planning to hunt a Special Level?" Monica asked at this moment.
Ryan’s expression shifted slightly upon hearing this, "This matter is rather complicated, Captain Lin, if I didn’t guess wrong, your Infinite operates on the oceanic lane, right?"
Lin Xian said, "Yes, but strictly speaking, I just wanted to learn about the Crystal Lattice devices and exchange some Blood Essence. As for hunting the Abnormal Body, sorry, I’m not keen on courting danger myself."
Ryan nodded, paused for a moment, then smirked slightly, looking at Lin Xian
"Well, unfortunately, Captain Lin, this trouble might be unavoidable for you, whether you wish to hunt or not."
Lin Xian raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
"An oceanic floating island from that Abyss is now 196 nautical miles east of Sea Rock Island, enveloped by an eye of the storm, with the oceanic lane’s base 3215 broken there," behind Ryan, Erica, with cold eyes, crossed her arms and looked solemnly at Lin Xian, "Moreover, we’ve detected an Abyss tear phenomenon undersea east of Sea Rock Island, which is highly unusual."
"So if you intend to leave Sea Rock Island... either sail or fly, but once you head east, unless you detour extensively, you’ll certainly encounter that oceanic floating island," the brawny Azlan also spoke at this time.
"Oceanic floating island?" KIKI frowned and asked, "What is that?"
Ryan took a deep breath, looked at Lin Xian and the others, then spoke a word that changed their expressions
"We believe, it should be a sea-floating..."
"Abnormal Body Nest!"
