Chapter 294 - 262 Takayuki Playing Megaman 2 - Part 1

Takayuki Kageyama stretched his arms and leaned back against his chair, finally letting his body relax. The rush of clearing Tetris's grueling Stage 8 still lingered in his mind, but exhaustion was quickly taking over. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he had neglected food for far too long. He powered down his ZEPS console, grabbed a quick meal, and sat in silence as he ate, reflecting on the intense session he had just endured.

As he took his last bite, he glanced at the stack of game cartridges next to his console. One, in particular, caught his eye—Megaman 2. Ever since the trailer came out from the TV ads , He had heard people raving about it, how it was tougher, more action-packed, and had some of the best platforming combat yet. Now that his mind had recovered from the Tetris marathon, he figured it was time for a new challenge.

He opened the game cartridges and it showed 4 things as usual, his eyes landing on Zabo-man's card. The description read: "When you meet the dragon, I'll help you." He squinted. A dragon? "Why are there dragon?" Takayuki shrug and continue playing it

He slid the cartridge into the ZEPS and powered it on. The game's vibrant title screen appeared, accompanied by an upbeat chiptune that immediately got his head nodding. He hit start, and the stage selection screen popped up, presenting him with a choice of Robot Masters to face first. Each one looked menacing, with their own unique theme and abilities.

"Alright, let's see... who do I go after first?" he muttered. He hovered over the options before selecting Metal Man. He had no idea if it was the best choice, but something about that name sounded cool.

The level began, and he was immediately thrown into action. Conveyor belts move unpredictably, forcing him to adjust his jumps mid-air, while gears and mechanical enemies attack from every direction. He quickly learned that Megaman now had a charge attack, allowing him to hold down the fire button and release a stronger shot. This small addition made a huge difference in how he played, and he found himself weaving through enemy fire while timing his charged blasts perfectly.

As he progressed, the difficulty ramped up. The enemies became relentless, and the platforming required pixel-perfect precision. He mistimed a jump, landing directly onto a spike trap. Game Over.

"Damn it! This game isn't messing around," he grumbled, restarting the level.

With every attempt, he improved, memorizing enemy placements and hazards. When he finally reached Metal Man's lair, his heart pounded. The boss wasted no time, throwing a barrage of razor-sharp saw blades that forced him to jump and dodge frantically. He fired back, carefully avoiding each spinning death trap, but Metal Man's relentless assault proved too much. He lost.

He exhaled sharply, rubbing his forehead. "Alright... again."

This time, he adapted. He studied Metal Man's pattern, dodging more efficiently and using his charged attacks wisely. The fight stretched on, but eventually, he landed the final shot. The boss exploded into pieces, and Takayuki let out a triumphant cheer. "YEAH! One down, on to the next!"

After taking a brief breather, he moved on to another Robot Master—Air Man. Unlike Metal Man's industrial level, this stage had massive fan-like platforms, gusts of wind that threatened to push him into pits, and enemies that flew across the screen in unpredictable patterns. He struggled at first, getting blown off platforms repeatedly, but with patience and a few retries, he managed to reach the boss.

Air Man, however, was an absolute menace. The boss filled the screen with a storm of mini tornadoes, leaving very little room to dodge. Takayuki died. A lot. Each time he retried, he got a little better, recognizing where the safe spots were and how to time his attacks. After what felt like an eternity, he finally delivered the last hit, watching as Air Man disintegrated into pixels.

"Two down... this is actually really fun!" he said, cracking his knuckles.

Between levels, he noticed a shop feature where he could purchase upgrades with points earned from beating bosses. He browsed through the available upgrades,

His mind thinking about the Zabo-man card says there will be a dragon Curious but unsure what it meant, he continued playing. With more experience under his belt, he systematically took down Bubble Man, Crash Man, and Quick Man, dying countless times but improving steadily. The game was brutal, but it was also incredibly rewarding.

Finally, he reached Wily's Castle. As he advanced through the fortress, a massive green robotic dragon appeared, chasing him down a series of floating platforms. His eyes widened as realization hit him.

"Oh, THIS must be the dragon!" he exclaimed, finally realizing the meaning behind the Zabo-man card.

A small cutscene played. Zabo-man V2 appeared in a dramatic entrance, striking a heroic pose. "Zabo-man V2 Sanjou!" flashed on the screen. This version of Zabo-man looked even more formidable than before, black armor and gray helmet with usual shining blue visors but now wielding two massive knuckle weapons instead of just one, a clear evolution from his previous appearance in Megaman 1 where he had sacrificed himself to help the player fight against Dr Willy and The Yellow Devil.

As the battle commenced, Zabo-man leaped onto the floating platforms, delivering a powerful rocket punch straight into the dragon's head, causing it to stagger. This gave Takayuki an opening to unleash a flurry of charged shots. The dragon roared, retaliating with bursts of fireballs and lunges, but each time, Zabo-man intervened, countering with another devastating punch. The cycle continued, the fight becoming an intense back-and-forth exchange of power.

Finally, with one last combined strike from both Zabo-man and Takayuki's fully charged shot, the massive Green Mechanical Dragon exploded in a shower of pixels. Zabo-man landed gracefully and turned to face the screen. A text box appeared: "You are very cool."

Takayuki couldn't help but grin at the unexpected yet thrilling moment. Overall this Zabo-man is similar to the previous Megaman game . "That was awesome," he muttered, cracking his knuckles and continuing to play.

As the game transitioned to the next phase of Wily's Castle, Takayuki paused and leaned back with a satisfied smile. "I could play this all night... but maybe I should pace myself." A quick glance at the clock revealed it was already past 1:00 AM. Realizing that tomorrow was still Sunday, he decided it was best to rest now rather than risk getting sick from lack of sleep.

He powered off the console, stretching his sore fingers. Another victory under his belt. And tomorrow? He'd dive right back in.
