An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me-Chapter 57: carion
Chapter 57: carion
He stood there, like some sort of glorious knight with a narcissistic complex. He pointed at Riven, "You don’t deserve that guild card. Even if you are the son of the Baron, you must show results before you can be handed the card.
And as far as that story goes, I don’t believe it." He spoke loudly, making sure that his voice pulled the attention of everyone around.
Riven and Noel stared at him with confusion. Who was this dude?
Riven didn’t bother to face him or talk to him. He simply started walking away. This action pissed the man off, but ye couldn’t be easy when dealing with nobility. But ye had a plan.
"I challenge you to a duel. I am also a five-silver-star adventurer, one of the best in this town, so if you battle me and win, it means that you deserve the level you are.
Else, you will forever stay in the bronze level, no matter what you do. Accept this duel. Do not make your family lose face," the man said, a smile on his face as he spoke.
Riven paused. He turned around and looked the man right in the eye. "And if you lose, you will become my dog, bound to me forever as a pet, and the day you go against me, you will die a death that shatters even your soul," Riven said, his eyes shining with an evil light.
His initial reason for saying this was to scare the door dude off. He didn’t want to waste his time here. But who would have thought that the pride of this dude was larger than his head?
He looked around, seeing the eyes that ye had already pulled to all of them, waiting for his response to Riven. He couldn’t allow himself to lose face.
"Then it’s a duel. The guild has a combat room for things like this at the back, and as everyone here has witnessed, we will fight," he said.
The entire guild burst into cheers. Everyone was eager to see a fight between two high-level adventurers. It had been ages since that had happened.
Riven stood there stunned. This was not how ye wanted it to go. Noel looked at him and smirked. "From your expression, I can tell that this is not what you had in mind," he said.
"Definitely not. But since we have both agreed, I’ll make sure to stomp his head into the ground," Riven said.
One of the receptionists led them to the combat room out back when the man told her about the duel. The whole room was filled with adventurers, placing bets and talking about who would win or not.
"Won’t you put on some armor? It might give you the push needed to survive," the man said in a cocky tone.
"I don’t need it. But before we start, can you tell me your name?" Riven asked.
"Hmm? Well, the name of the one who will stomp on your face and show the world that you are a fraud is Carion," he said.
"Na, after today, you’ll be going by Leo. It’s a good name for a dog," Riven said. Carion’s face twitched when he heard that. He pulled his sword in anger and got into his stance.
Riven didn’t even bother with removing his sword yet. He stood nonchalantly. He didn’t feel any threat from this guy. No matter how he looked at the situation, it felt like he was here to train rather than fight.
One of the adventurers entered the arena. He raised his hands and spoke, "This is a legal battle under the jurisdiction of the guild. The battle ends after surrender or knockout. Killing your opponent will result in your immediate death as well," he said, and then looked at both sides. "You may begin," he said and dropped his hand.
Immediately, Carion charged in, running with his sword at his side. Riven watched him. He took a deep breath, and everything seemed to slow down.
This was an effect from his title and his sword mastery. His higher battle sense allowed him to perceive the battlefield in better light.
When Carion was within range, he finally moved, taking a step forward and then moving to the side in one motion, evading him. Then he set out his leg and tripped him.
Carion fell, slamming into the ground and rolling. This immediately caused a thunderous laugh, everyone laughing at how easily he was taken down.
Carion felt enraged, got on his feet, and was about to charge at Riven, but Riven was not where he thought he would be. Then out of nowhere, the side of Riven’s sword slammed into Carion’s face from behind with so much force he went flying.
Carion landed on the ground with so much disbelief written on his face. He got up, cleaned the blood from the side of his mouth, and then took another stance.
"You think you’ll win because of those cheap shots? I’LL SHOW YOU WHAT I CAN DO."
His sword suddenly picked up a huge gust of wind. The air twisted around the sword very quickly—so fast that it would cut a finger off if it went too close.
He dashed forward, leaped into the air, and slashed downward. Riven rolled out of the way before the sword hit the ground.
As the top of the sword touched the ground, the wind around the blade was transferred like a current into the ground, causing the ground to explode.
Carion immediately changed direction, not wanting to allow Riven to get away. He thrust his sword at full speed right for Riven’s face.
Riven watched the blade carefully and parried at the right time before raising his leg and slamming a kick right into Carion’s chest, shattering some ribs in the process. Carion flew backward, coughing a huge amount of blood as he landed.
He didn’t move after that. Everyone looked in disbelief. The fight had not lasted five minutes, and it was already over.
Inside the crowd of observers, a cloaked figure that was watching the fight wrote something on paper and then left quietly.
