Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 53 Who’s the Champion?
Everyone involved in the game returns to the palace after the game, and the final outcome of the game is announced in the book King’s Witness.
Every one gave Meiss their pockets of dog-slaves, and he counted each man’s catch. A servant who specialises in counting stood beside Meiss as he recorded on a piece of paper the names of each man and the number of ears captured by the dog-slaves.
Emily knew that she was going to lose, for she had only captured two Dog slaves, and there was probably no one less.
All were in their seats, waiting patiently, when Emily saw Queen Mary, her face flushed, her hair, which had been neatly combed, a trifle dishevelled, coming slowly down the side of the palace, followed by a good-looking page.
Queen Mary sat in her place as if nothing had happened, and she did not even communicate with the King. At this point, Meiss walked up to the king and queen and told them the final outcome of the game.
In the spacious and ornate council chamber of the palace, the atmosphere was suddenly tense. Heavy tapestries and portraits of ancestors hung on the walls, the parquet floor was covered with fine rugs, and huge chandeliers hung from the ceiling, where the light reflected with a gentle glow through delicate crystals. Meiss stood on an oak dais in the centre of the hall, facing the king on a high throne, his voice echoing through the still air.
"Your Majesty, after counting, the winner of the Alpha group is Alpha · Smith from the border, who captured a total of twenty-three Dog slaves." Meiss spoke truthfully of the result, his voice clear and unwavering, though he felt the subtle displeasure of the king.
The king frowned a little, and this slight change of expression did not escape the keen eyes of many of those present. His gaze was grave, and there was a hint of disappointment in his brooding.
"How many Dog slaves did Klaus capture?" He asked, a hint of anticipation in his voice.
"Your Majesty, I’m not actually involved in this game." Klaus explains, "I said a long time ago that I wasn’t interested in hunting, so I abstained from voting. "
"How’s the Dyson?" The king asked.
"Dyson was caught in a trap. When the guards found him, he was unconscious, so they took him to the hospital for treatment," Meiss said.
The king’s eyes grew more stern at this, and he turned to Klaus, his eyes flashing with mingled emotions. "He was caught in a trap?"
The remark seemed to be a search for confirmation, and it also seemed to call into question a possibility.
Klaus shrugged his shoulders casually, his face remained calm, but there was a hint of indifference in his eyes, "People always make mistakes, don’t they?"
His words, light-hearted as they were, were especially harsh in this tense environment.
The king did not pursue the inquiry; he had long been accustomed to the strife between his two sons, and his countenance softened a little, but he retained the dignity of a king.
"Go on." He said to Meiss.
"The winner of the Luna class is..." Meiss paused for a second, and looked at the paper in his hand that recorded everyone’s hunting data again, "It’s Luna, · Emily, she captured a total of thirty Dog slaves. "
Emily was puzzled when she heard the number. She remembered that she had captured only two dog-slaves. How did it become thirty?
" What? That’s impossible." There was some questioning, and then there was an uproar in the hall, no one believing that Emily could have captured so many dog-slaves.
More and more doubt came over Emily, overwhelming her.
At that moment, Klaus took Emily’s hand, and he said in an extremely low voice in her ear, "Take it easy, let the king decide."
There was firmness and confidence in his voice, as if to tell Emily that all was under control. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Quiet." Meiss shouted at the crowd, and his voice rang through the hall like thunder, and presently all fell silent. He stood on the platform, majestic and dignified, his gaze sweeping over all present, making sure that every sound was hushed.
The king, seated on his throne, scanned the people who had just made the coaxing with a piercing gaze, his eyes cold as ice and full of undoubted authority. There was a momentary silence in the hall, and all bowed their heads under the king’s gaze, none daring to look at him.
After a few seconds, the king slowly spoke, his voice low and full of majesty, "You say it again, How many Dog slaves did Emily capture?"
"Luna· Emily captured thirty Dog slaves, the most of any person. " said Meiss, his voice clear and free from hesitation.
"Then she’s a champion, right?" The king asked.
"Yes." replied Meiss, in a short, strong voice that left no room for question.
The king’s gaze looked at the people in the hall again, and he asked, "Who just questioned Luna-Emily?"
The king’s question was like a sharp sword to those who questioned it.
Everyone, you look at me, I look at you, and at last one of the Lunas reluctantly gets up. Her body was slightly stiffened, and her face was embarrassed and troubled.
She whispered, "It’s me." "
The woman’s voice was barely audible, but it was unusually clear in the silent hall.
Emily saw that the woman was Luna who had snatched her prey on the hunting grounds, when Alpha · Smith from the border walked up to her and said to the king in an apologetic tone, "Your Majesty, she is my Luna. I apologize to you for her reckless words and deeds, and I ask you to forgive her." "
The king ignored Alpha · Smith, he looked at the woman with a cold gaze, and he asked her, "Why do you question Luna · Emily? "
"Because..."
The woman’s lowered head slowly lifted, her face was pale, her eyes hesitated, and finally she seemed to muster great courage to say, "Because I saw Luna · Emily in the hunting ground.Emily did not change into her wolf form to hunt. She had only used a saber against the dog-slaves. There’s simply no way she’s going to capture so many Dog slaves."
"So?" The king’s voice weighed on the woman’s head like a weight, causing her to bow her head again.
"So, so I... " The woman’s voice grew lower, "So, I suspect she is cheating." "
"Do you have proof?" The king asked.
The woman was stupefied; she had clearly not expected the question. She thought for a moment, and then shook her head feebly.
The king did not speak, but he gave Meiss a look. Meiss immediately accused the woman, "You dare to question Luna · Emily without any evidence. and by acting like this you are flouting royal authority. "
"No, I’m not." Meiss’s voice was harsh and powerful, and caused the woman to fall upon her knees in terror.
"Damn woman, who told you to talk nonsense." Alpha · Smith’s face instantly became gloomy, he slapped his Luna fiercely, and then knelt down to intercede with the king: "Your Majesty, please forgive this woman’s ignorance."
There was anger and despair in his voice.
The king did not speak, but looked with a blank expression at what was passing before him. The crowd was so terrified that they even became cautious in their breathing, as if they feared to anger the merciless king. Then they heard the verdict of the king.
"Alpha · Smith and his Luna defy the royal power, and from now on, remove their titles and reduce their status to the lowest level." Every word of the king rang in the ears of every one with so much distinctness that one shuddered.
"No, please, Your Majesty." Alpha · Smith and his Luna cried, "Please forgive me, Your Majesty."
"Drag them out." The king ordered.
Several Alpha soldiers then walked down the hall and dragged Alpha · Smith and his Luna down, their cries and begging for mercy echoing through the hall, terrifying everyone else.
"As for you, Luna · Emily. The king’s gaze fell upon Emily.
"What shall I reward you?" The king’s tone was cold and impenetrable, and it was impossible to tell whether he was pleased or angry.
