Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Princess Edelweiss

Emily’s eyes were downcast, and her heart was full of apprehension. The whole hall was so still that even the drop of a pin on the floor was distinctly audible. She did not know if punishment or reward awaited her, and the unknown filled her with anxiety and perplexity.

The king’s mind was impalpable, and the faint smile which he kept upon his face made it impossible to guess his real thoughts. He turned to Queen Mary and inquired, "My dear, what kind of reward do you think should be bestowed upon Emily?" His voice was calm and strong, and caused all present to catch their breath.

Queen Mary smiled and replied, "Emily was able to kill thirty Dog slaves with just her saber, which is enough to prove that she is a valiant woman. She deserves a reward more valuable than money."

Her eyes betrayed her admiration for Emily. However, she also skilfully left the decision to the king.

As King Famal listened, his eyes wandered over the crowd present before resting on the white flowers embroidered on the hem of Queen Mary’s dress. There was a flash of resolution in his eyes at that moment.

He announced to the crowd, "The snowdrop is a symbol of bravery in the north, and based on Luna-Emily’s valor in this hunting game, I have decided to bestow the title of Princess Edelweiss upon her."

Emily’s expression froze for a moment at the news. All at once her mind went blank, and she could not believe her ears. The king had actually crowned her as a princess. Was this true? A wave of excitement and gratitude surged through her, but with it a certain uneasiness and doubt. She wondered if the sudden honour would bring any changes or challenges.

"Emily, come here." Maes whispered to remind Emily, "You should be thanking the King for his gift."

At that moment, Klaus nudged Emily sideways, and she reacted with trepidation as she made her way to the King and Queen. Emily’s heart was pounding and her palms were slightly sweaty, but she tried to keep her composure.

"Thank you for your gift, Your Majesty," Emily said, bowing to the king. Emily curtsied to the King, and when her eyes made contact with his, she bowed her head a little too weakly to look him in the eye.

"To Princess Edelweiss," Maes said in a loud voice, his voice echoing through the hall and causing a slight commotion.

"To Princess Edelweiss," the crowd chimed in after him, and then they all bowed to Emily.

Emily watched the people beneath as they showered her with compliments, and those who had questioned her came forward to curry favor. They smiled at her and whispered compliments in her ear.

They sounded like beautiful clouds in the sky, but Emily knew that they did not really mean what they said.

Emily’s eyes wandered over the crowd and rested on Klaus, and when she saw his calm face she realized the truth.

What she did not know was that, as she carried this honour, danger was slowly approaching.

Northern Border Checkpoint

A group of refugees entered the north in a snaking line, their backs laden with ragged backpacks, exhaustion and worry written on their faces, each holding an identification document to be checked by guards one by one.

Among the group was a long-haired woman. She looked like any other refugee, except that her grey, almost transparent eyes stood out.

"You, take out your ID card and show it to me." A guard said rudely to a refugee, "Hurry up."

The man handed the ID card in his hand to the guard, who glanced at it before questioning, "Why does the picture on your ID card look different from what you look like?"

"Sir, I swear the picture on this ID card is indeed me." The man’s voice was permeated with a hint of panic as he desperately tried to explain, "It’s the hardships of life that have tormented me into the state I’m in now. I’m telling you the truth, please believe me."

said the man, as he stole a few bills into the guard’s pocket, only to see the corners of the guard’s mouth hook up, and then he waved his hand to signal the man to pass.

When it was Hayley’s turn, she placed the money she had prepared beforehand under her ID card, and when she handed it to the guard, he subconsciously pocketed the money underneath.

The guards let her through without even checking her ID, and just when Hayley thought all was well, a man in a sheriff’s uniform stopped her in her tracks, his eyes keen and scrutinizing.

"Where are you from?" The captain of the guards with the mustache questioned her, his voice resonant and his eyes locked on Haley "What did you just slip that guard?"

"Nothing." Haley replied, her head down and her tone calm.

"Show me your ID." The captain of the guard did not seem disposed to let her off the hook.

Haley had to hand the man her ID, and then she heard the man’s voice say, "Keep your head up."

Hayley looked up, and the man scrutinized her for a moment before glancing at the photo on the ID, a sneer breaking from his lips as if he had already picked up some unusual clue.

"Your ID card is a fake." said the captain of the guard, coldly, his voice full of certainty and contempt.

"Sir, how dare I deceive you with a fake ID?" Haley fought back her inner rage as she put on a fake smile and tried to look innocent and sincere.

"Then, how should you prove that this ID card is real?" The man’s gaze fixed on Haley’s chest, his hand cut Haley’s chin hard, "If you lie, I can just tell you to get lost."

Haley wasn’t intimidated, her eyes suddenly became gentle as she took the man’s hand and then moved his rough hand to her face as she said to him in a seductive voice, "Maybe we should find a place where I can tell you slowly how this ID came to be."

For an instant the man’s eyes filled with lust. He then followed Hayley to a nearby thicket. After looking around and realizing that no one was there, he pressed Hayley’s body against the thick trunk of the tree from behind.

The man could not wait to get his hands inside Haley’s shirt. He squeezed her breasts roughly and mouthed nasty words, "Bitch, I’m going to fuck you up."

"Let’s see what you’ve got then." Hayley turned her back to the man, her eyes a cold, menacing stare, and then she quietly revealed her wolf claws.

The man jerked Hayley’s body around, and just as he was about to thrust his cock into Hayley, she took advantage of his surprise and plunged her wolf’s paw hard into his heart.

Hayley was quick and precise, and in a matter of seconds her wolf’s paw had pierced the man’s heart.

He fell soundlessly to the grass, and the man who had been impossibly insolent a moment before was instantly a dead body.

Hayley spat on the body as she straightened her clothes before dragging the man’s body deeper into the woods.

She had no time to waste in burying the body, for the smell of blood would soon attract the hungry beasts of the wilderness, who would tend it for her.

Hayley emerged from the woods as if nothing had happened, and soon found a motel in the northern border tribal area. Haley went to her room. She undressed and went into the bathroom, where she quickly washed away the stench of the man she had just seen.

After her shower, Haley stands in front of a mirror wrapped in a towel. Using a comb, she applied a small amount of hair coloring cream to her hair. She had to dye her hair every once in a while to maintain the colour.

The color of a werewolf’s coat often indicates that they are from a different region. Black-haired werewolves are extremely rare in the North, as if they were exclusively the preserve of the West, but the Masquerade is the best at changing their faces.

Haley gave a satisfied smile when she saw in the mirror that her hair color had changed to the light brown she wanted, then she said to herself in a very authentic northern accent, "Hi Emily, it’s nice to meet you."

The viper had come out of his hole, and as soon as she was near her target, she would not hesitate to pounce upon it.
