Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 224 It’s All Over, Including Us
When Emily awoke she sighed heavily. She hated the fainting spells that followed every headache, as if they were as painful as falling into an abyss.
Emily had expected to find in her dreams some memory of what she had once known, and yet this was another blank dream. She knew nothing of her past.
A morning breeze crept in through the windows, and the faint smell of smoke and dust still hung in the air. Emily had not yet forgotten all that had happened in the pack, including the wedding.
At that moment the door was softly pushed open. Emily sat up, and she saw Dolly coming slowly in with her breakfast.
" You’re awake?" There was a gleam of delight in Dolly’s eyes before she set the breakfast on the table.
" How long did I sleep?" Emily asked.
" You slept all day. " Dolly said, walking over to the window and pulling the curtains back. Instantly a blinding white light shot straight in.
"How’s Adam? " Emily asked.
"He’s fine." Dolly said, " He’s been treated by the Northern Army’s media."
Emily stares at Dolly’s injured leg and asks, "What about yours?"
"I’m fine. " Dolly said, "The medic took the bullet out of my thigh, but because the bullet was in my body for so long, it got infected, so I can’t walk like a normal person anymore."
"I’ll find you a better doctor. " Emily walked up to Dolly and she comforted, "Your legs will definitely be like before."
Dolly shook her head softly, she gave a bitter smile, " Don’t comfort me, I know my legs won’t get better."
" Dolly, I’m so sorry." Emily looked at Dolly with pain in her heart, " It’s all because of me that you got hurt."
" I never blamed you." Dolly said, "It’s all over now. We have to move on."
Emily’s heart was full of guilt, and she did not know what to say.
" Come on, let’s eat breakfast." Dolly changed the subject, " Mrs. Bauer made you a lemon pie."
Emily went to the table and sat down. She asked, " What’s the situation with the pack?"
Dolly sits down next to Emily and she says, "The North cleared out the West. Then Adam mobilized a support army to come and help the pack rebuild."
"How many survivors are left in the pack?"
"The current number of all survivors in the pack is less than a hundred. " Dolly said, handing Emily a glass of milk in front of her.
"Have they left yet? " Emily asked softly.
"Who? " Dolly said, "You mean the Northern Army?"
Emily nods. Then Dolly says, "The Northern Army isn’t leaving for a while. Alpha Klaus and Adam are having a bit of a falling out over you."
"For me? " Emily shows a puzzled look.
Dolly nods, a hint of concern in her eyes, "When I was walking through the living room earlier, I heard Klaus offer to take you back to the North, but Adam was adamant. So they had an argument."
"Are they here?"
"Yes. " Dolly replied, "Both Alpha Klaus and Adam came to visit you separately when you were in a coma. It just so happened that they met downstairs just now. I didn’t expect them to get into a fight." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"I have to go check it out. " Emily said, getting up immediately.
Emily left the room, and as she went down the stairs she heard the two men arguing, and although they had deliberately lowered the volume, their voices sounded distinctly through the house.
" Emily is my mate, why can’t I take her?" Klaus’s voice dripped with anger.
"Your marriage has been annulled. Emily is no longer your wife. " Adam countered, "You have no right to take her."
"Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are?" Klaus snorted, "Who are you to annul my marriage to Emily?"
"It was the North that reneged on the Treaty of Union, and it was you who chose to make an enemy of the South. " Adam said without showing any weakness, "How could I give my sister to the enemy?"
"Enemies? " Klaus taunted, "Now you see me as the enemy, right? Don’t forget who saved you."
"You’re the one who insisted on attacking the West in the first place, you’re the one who messed with Elijah, you’re the one who let Emily fall into Elijah’s hands." Adam raged at Klaus, "You’re the one who caused all of this."
"Fuck you, Adam," Klaus raised his voice, "I’m not going to waste time explaining myself to you. Anyway, as soon as Emily wakes up I am taking her back north. If you try to stop me, I don’t mind going to war with the South."
"You can try. I-"Adam tried to say something. When he looked up and saw Emily standing on the stairs, he froze for a moment, and then said no more.
"Emily, you’re awake? " Klaus showed a smile to Emily, the anger in his eyes disappeared instantly at Emily’s presence.
" Are you guys fighting over me?" Emily takes a step down the stairs, " I heard everything you guys were talking about."
" I’m sorry, is ours bothering you?" Adam walks up to greet Emily, but Klaus steps in front of Adam.
"Is your head still hurting? " Klaus asked with concern, "Do you need a medic to check you out?"
"Stay away from my sister. Klaus. " Adam said unhappily, "You have nothing to do with her now."
"Adam. " Emily said, "Let me talk to Klaus alone, okay?"
"But——" Adam tried to say something, but Emily gave him a gentle but unquestioning look. So he said, "Okay."
Then Emily said to Klaus, "Let’s go outside. Klaus."
They went out of the house, Emily and Klaus walking side by side, neither of them speaking, and for a long time there was silence.
At last Emily came to a willow-tree by the river, and stopped in her tracks. " Klaus." Emily said softly.
" Yes. " Klaus stood in front of Emily and he stared at her deeply.
Emily took a deep breath, she raised her eyes, " I’m sorry, I’m not going north with you."
Everything about them seemed to stand still, save for the slight rustle of the wind as it blew through them. Klaus’ expression froze, and it took a few seconds for him to speak, " Why?"
Emily sighed softly, " I can’t stay with you against my heart, it’s not fair to you."
" I don’t care what’s fair." Klaus said, "I just want you by my side."
" But I don’t remember everything that happened between us."
" But I do. I—"
" Klaus. " Emily cuts Klaus off as she looks him in the eyes, "I don’t feel anything for you."
"You what? " A look of disbelief appeared in Klaus’ eyes.
" Even if you were standing in front of me, I still wouldn’t feel anything for you." Emily knew that some of the things she said might hurt Klaus, but she did not want to lie to him.
" My wolf has no reaction to you." Emily said, " I’m sorry, I really don’t want to lie to you."
" No Emily." Klaus shook his head, " We used to be mates, even if you lost your memories——"
" Klaus." Emily interrupted Klaus again with a heavy sigh, and after a moment’s reflection Emily decided to tell him the secret.
" I’m pregnant." Emily said calmly, " The baby’s father is Elijah."
" You are." A shocked look came over Klaus’ face, "You’re pregnant?"
" Yes." Emily replied.
Klaus turned away; he did not say a word, but he kept adjusting his breathing, as if he were struggling with the anger that was about to break out in him.
Then Klaus clenched his fist and punched the trunk of a nearby tree. He pounded the trunk of the tree with his fists until his hands bled.
" Klaus, stop." Emily rushed to get between the tree trunk and Klaus. She stared at Klaus’ bright red hands and said, " Your hands are hurt."
" I’m sorry, it’s because I insisted on attacking the West that you fell into Elijah’s hands." Klaus’s voice was hoarse and full of remorse, " Adam was right, I caused everything."
He looked over at Emily, his eyes red, " How can I make up for what I’ve done to you?
"You don’t have to make it up to me." Emily’s eyes lowered, " It’s all over, me and you."
" No." Klaus said bitterly, "It’s not over between us."
"Klaus, thank you for saving my pack, you don’t owe me anything. You don’t owe me anything." Emily looked at Klaus calmly, "I’ve said my piece. Goodbye, Klaus. "
Emily was about to turn away when Klaus hugged her from behind. His chest was pressed against Emily’s back and his voice was choked with emotion, "Don’t leave me, Emily."
Emily could not move as he clasped her in his arms. She did not struggle; she only let him hold her. When a warm tear fell on Emily’s shoulder, she pretended not to see it.
The tear, like a hot drop of water, made a little warm patch on Emily’s shoulder, but her expression did not change in the least, and she retained the same unperturbed air. It was as if there were a solid shield in her heart which shut out all external emotional influences, and though the tear carried the deep pain and unwillingness to let go of Klaus, it could not create a ripple in the lake of her heart.
Emily knew that she had made up her mind, as a ship sailing over a wide ocean does not change course on the slightest breeze.
