Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 225 How many months are you pregnant?
South, Red Moon Pack
One month later.
Snow was falling outside the house, and Emily and Mrs. Bauer were sitting by the fire, the orange glow of which threw a soft halo around their faces.
" It hasn’t snowed on the border in a long time." Mrs. Bauer said as she knitted a sweater, " I remember one snowfall on the border when I was eight years old, but it was nothing compared to what we’ve had this year."
Emily glanced out of the window, where snowflakes were flying with abandon through the air, and the sky and the ground were white.
"The weather forecast says the snow will last almost a week. " Emily said.
" I don’t believe in weather forecasts. " Mrs. Bauer said, "It might stop snowing in a little while. The weather is like an old widow’s face, it just changes."
At that moment the door of the house opened. A strong cold wind with snowflakes drifted into the room. Emily and Mrs. Bauer both looked toward the door at the same moment, and saw Dolly standing in the doorway. She was wearing a heavy down coat. Her face was flushed from the cold.
"Dolly, you are back. " Mrs. Bauer put down the wool in her hands, she walked over to Dolly and patted the snowflakes off her body onto the floor.
"Have a cup of hot tea, Dolly. " Emily picked up the teapot and poured Dolly a cup of hot tea. She looked at Dolly’s red face and couldn’t help but complain, "You don’t really have to go on patrol on a snow day."
"Yesterday, A member of the patrol picked up rogue’s trail at the border." Dolly took off her thick down jacket, "So I’m going with them today to find rogues."
"Rogue? " Mrs. Bauer gave a surprised look, "And did you find the rogues?"
"We searched along the borderline and still haven’t found the rogues. " Dolly said, walking over to the fire to warm herself, her face looking redder in the firelight.
Emily ponders and says, "It’s snowing at the border right now, the hooligans must be trying to take advantage of the opportunity to grab food. We need to fortify the border against hooligans."
"I’ll go search again when the snow stops. " Dolly said and sneezed. Emily hastily threw the blanket she was wearing over Dolly.
"You just rest here. " Emily said, "When the snow stops, I’ll search for the rogues myself."
"No. You’re pregnant. " Dolly said, "You should stay home."
" I’m not as fragile as you think I am. " Emily said, "Besides, I’m staying home every day, and I’m going to be a pig if I keep this up."
Ever since Mrs. Bauer found out that Emily was pregnant, she had been making all kinds of delicious food for Emily every day. In just a month, Emily has gained three kilos.
Emily has to find a way to control her weight or she will really become a big fat person.
"Emily, what month is your due date? " Mrs. Bauer asked casually.
" I don’t know. " Emily thought for a moment, "The doctor didn’t tell me anything about the due date."
"Oh, Emily," Mrs. Bauer gave an incredulous look, " As an expectant mother, you have to know when your baby’s due date is. Don’t you have regular maternity checkups?"
" No." Emily replied.
All this time Emily had been so busy with the rebuilding of the pack that she had not had time to care for the maternity examination. Moreover, the battalion’s hospital had been blown up in that battle, and the battalion now had only a makeshift medical center, where there was no way to provide maternity services.
" Oh, Emily," Mrs. Bauer said heartily, " you can’t be as clueless as I was when I was pregnant with my first child. You know what? I gave birth to my first child next to a haystack in a barn. I was terrified when the amniotic fluid came out of my body. Luckily, that baby was born healthy."
" Well, I’ll keep your words in mind." Emily said.
Mrs. Bauer’s eyes fell on Emily’s slightly raised belly, " I can see that you should be in your third trimester. Labor and delivery tests after the third trimester are very important and you cannot afford to be sloppy.
"How can you tell that Emily is three months pregnant? " Dolly asked curiously.
" Oh, honey. " Mrs. Bauer gave a proud look, "I’ve given birth to four children and I can tell how many months pregnant a woman is by the size of her belly. My eyes are even more accurate than the instruments in a doctor’s hands."
"Are you sure? " Dolly asked skeptically.
"Of course. " Mrs. Bauer replied confidently.
As Dolly listened, her eyes drooped in thought, and then she looked at Emily and tried to speak.
"What’s wrong with you? " Emily thought that there was something strange in Dolly’s eyes.
Dolly shook her head, " Nothing."
Emily glanced out the window, " The snow has stopped. This weather sure changes as fast as the old widow’s face."
"I’m going on patrol. " Emily said, putting on her jacket.
"Remember to bring your cell phone." Dolly reminded me.
Emily gave Dolly the OK sign, opened the door and walked out. A chill came over her, and she shuddered.
Soon Emily and the rest of the patrol were assembled at the entrance to the village. They then searched for signs of hooligans along the outskirts of the village to the border.
"Look, these footprints. " exclaimed a patrol member named Paul," I found hooligan rogues."
"Look, there are footprints here too. " said another patrolman.
Emily went at once to examine it. She stared at those messy footprints and pondered for a while and said, "Judging from the direction of those footprints, those hooligans should have moved towards the borderline in the north."
"These footprints are new, those rogues should have just left. " The patrol member named Paul inquired to Emily, "Should we keep searching?"
"We’ll split into two teams to continue searching for the hooligans. " Emily said, "I’m guessing the rogues have a rendezvous somewhere around here. Remember to contact me as soon as you find the rogues."
Soon Emily, with another member of the patrol, was searching for hooligans in the direction close to the northern boundary. Suddenly Emily signaled to her teammates to stop.
"I smell something unfamiliar. " Emily whispered to alert her teammate.
Suddenly there came a sound from the woods behind them. Emily looked back and saw a dark figure darting through the trees with the swiftness of a ghost. The figure was extremely swift, and in a twinkling had disappeared into the depths of the wood.
" Go after him." Emily ordered.
Emily and another member of the team chase after Shadow. Emily ran through the woods. The snow under her feet limited her speed. When she came out of the woods after the chase, there was an empty field of snow before her. The figure had long since disappeared, leaving only a shallow line of footprints in the snow stretching far away.
Emily pulled out her cell phone to contact her teammates, but by this time it had no signal. So she had to walk while looking for the source of the signal.
Suddenly a force came from behind Emily.
Emily was unprepared, and fell forward like a kite with a broken string. Instinctively her hands went forward to cushion the tremendous impact, and her palms scraped the ground, scraping the skin, and the crimson blood oozed out, leaving blinding marks on the white snow.
Emily rolled over immediately, her eyes flashing with caution and anger. She saw a woman standing before her like a ghost, and the woman’s hands had been transformed into sharp wolf’s claws, glittering with an icy radiance in the reflected gleam of the snow.
The woman wore a bonnet, under which a fringe of red hair showed, and that fringe flew wildly through the air like a leaping flame. There was an icy coldness and a thick malice in her eyes.
"Hello, sister." said the woman with a sneer.
