Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 214 Counterattack
Emily set up a makeshift command center at the shelter, where she gathered the younger ones to discuss counter-attack strategies.
"The Northern Army is expected to enter the border from here. " Emily stood next to a table, she pointed to a location on the map and said to the others, "They have to cross this river, so we have to counterattack the Northern Army before they cross the river."
" But there are less than thirty of us, and the Northern Army must outnumber us." A young man named Jeff said, " And we don’t have nor many weapons."
" We have to do this." Emily said, " It will take an hour at the earliest for the support army from the other packs to get here. We have to hold off the Northern Army until the support army arrives."
Emily paused for two seconds, she raised her head slightly and her sharp gaze swept over them like electricity, " Once the Northern Army enters our pack, it is the same as breaking through our border defense. Therefore, we must exchange the smallest sacrifice for the greatest victory."
The crowd instantly understood what Emily meant, and they revealed stunned and torn expressions." Are you asking us to die? " Another young man lowered his head and muttered in a low voice.
"It’s not you guys, it’s us. " Emily said firmly," If we can’t hold the pack, we will lose not only our loved ones, but our country. But I won’t force anyone, those who don’t want to join the raid team can leave now."
Silence fell upon them all. After a while, the man named Jeff looked up and said with a firm gaze, "Without our country, our lives will be meaningless. I am willing to give my life for my country."
" I’m in." Another young man said, Then the others chimed in, " I’m in."
" Good." Emily nodded to them, relief and emotion in her eyes. She continued, " Next, let’s go over the specifics-"
" Emily," Dolly interrupted Emily as she walked in, " Adam wants to speak to you." Dolly said.
So Emily broke off the meeting, took Dolly’s cell phone and went to a corner to answer Adam’s call.
"Emily here."
"Emily, listen. " Adam’s voice came from the other end of the line, and he said in an urgent and brief tone, "You need to evacuate the pack, now."
"No, Adam. " Emily said, "I can’t leave the pack."
"Don’t do anything stupid, you won’t stand a chance against the Northern Army. " Adam said in a forceful tone, "Evacuate immediately, that’s an order."
"I will try to slow down the Northern Army as much as I can. " Emily said in a calm and firm tone, "As long as the support army arrives fast enough, we will definitely have a chance to counterattack. No matter what, we can’t let the Northern Army break through the border defense line."
"You’ll die, if you remain there. " Adam lowered his voice, "You have no experience of war, you have no idea of the dangers of war. Listen, evacuate the pack immediately."
"I didn’t have experience of war before, but I do now. " Emily held back her inner grief as she said with difficulty," Adam, there are memories here of what I once was. I must not let the Yankees trample and destroy my pack. I must guard the pack."
"Emily—" Before Adam could finish, Emily hung up.
She took a deep breath to adjust her emotions before returning to the conference table. Everyone was waiting for Emily, so she made a long story short, " The raid team will be ambushed on the hillock near the river, and as soon as the Northern Army crosses the river, we’ll launch an attack on them immediately. Now, everyone goes to the armory and gets their weapons, we leave in five minutes."
The others did as they were told. Dolly stayed where she was. She asked Emily suspiciously, " Why don’t you let me join the raid squad, are you excluding me?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"You have a more important mission. " Emily glanced at the wounded in the shelter, she told Dolly, "You must move the remaining people to safety."
"But I want to fight alongside you. " Dolly pleaded, "I’m your Beta, I can’t let you fight alone."
"Then who will take care of the wounded?" Emily intoned, " We must move the wounded as soon as possible or they will only wait to die if they remain here. Do as I say and do it right?"
"But —"
" That’s an order." Emily didn’t allow Dolly to say another word, " You find as much transportation as you can, prioritizing the elderly and children to leave first. Now, go do it."
Dolly wore a torn look, and her lips quivered a little, as if she would have fought for something more. But in the end, all she said was, "Yes."
Five minutes later, the raiding party, organized by Emily, headed for the hillock near the river, where they were quickly ambushed.
At that moment a sudden shower of rain fell from the sky. The torrent of rain beat mercilessly on every limb, down their cheeks, cold and biting to the bone, but not one of them showed the slightest sign of wavering. Emily clung to the weapon in her hand, her eyes peering through the curtain of rain at the river below the hill, the path through which the Northern troops would have to pass. Emily’s eyes were fixed on the river, which was the path through which the Northern army would have to pass.
The team was on high alert, their bodies pressed against the wet ground, blending in with their surroundings. The rain blotted out their vision, but each took note of the movements around him by the aid of his memory and keen sense of hearing.
It was clear to Emily that this sortie was the key to their counter-attack, and that, in spite of the harsh conditions, they had the advantage of surprise. She thought of the loved ones and friends she had lost in the battle, and the memory of Alpha Robert’s last look and words kept returning to her, strengthening her resolve.
"Everyone stay quiet, keep your eyes peeled, and when they are in our attack range, follow the plan." Emily whispered to her team, her voice not loud but with a reassuring force in the rain.
Slowly the hours passed in tense waiting, when suddenly the distant sound of the march of the Northern troops was heard. Through the curtain of rain their silhouettes were faintly discernible. The men of the Northern army, as they bore their arms towards the river, did not seem to notice the approaching danger.
Emily’s heart was in her throat as the Northern army drew nearer to the river. She slightly raised her hand to signal her team to get ready. All eyes were fixed on the advancing foe. A fierce raid was about to be launched in this rain.
