Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 149 The Real Man Behind the Scenes
Emily turned to sit in her chair, leaning forward slightly toward Susan. She held Susan’s hand and said in a calm tone, "Say, what the hell is the truth?"
Susan sniffed, then took a long breath. After a moment, when she had calmed down a bit, she spoke, "I thought you were here to snatch my father’s pack, so I’ve been hostile toward you. I was planning to leave the pack that night and go to my uncle’s, but I was attacked on the way by the Dog Slaves. It was Dyson who saved me when I was wounded. Then he asked the woman, Gina, to take care of me. Dyson told me he was the royal representative and that he was responsible for bringing supplies to the Green Forest pack. When I told him who I was, and why I was leaving, he said I wasn’t a true wolf and promised to help me become the alpha of the pack if I did what he said. I didn’t believe him at first, so I declined. I continued my way to my uncle’s pack, but out of nowhere, a group of men appeared, saying they were coming to kill me on your orders. My wolves showed up, but I couldn’t defeat them. Just when I thought I was dying, Dyson showed up and saved me again."
Emily thought to herself, Is it just a coincidence that Dyson saved Susan twice? She knew Dyson had never been a good-natured man.
"When I learned that the killers had come to kill me on your orders, I hated you so much," Susan continued. "So I agreed to Dyson’s offer."
"He’d gained your trust and promised to help you reclaim the pack unconditionally, so you just did what he said, right?" Emily asked.
Susan nodded, "But I didn’t expect you to have wolves. Dyson promised me you wouldn’t."
Emily inwardly sneered. Gina had no idea her wolf was coming, so the information she gave Dyson was false. No, it was outdated information.
"When I was beaten by you, I accepted my fate," Susan said recently. "It’s just that I didn’t expect someone would attempt a coup d’état in my name."
"So you had no idea someone was carrying out a coup d’état in your name within the pack, but why did you plead guilty?" Emily asked, confused.
"Because..." Susan’s head drooped, and her lips pursed.
"Is someone hinting at you something?" Emily asked tentatively. "Did someone ask you to take the blame voluntarily?"
Susan’s brows furrowed, her expression troubled. After a few seconds, she nodded.
"One of my father’s former subordinates whispered to me that Alpha Klaus intended to sentence all those associated with me to death. He said if I took the blame voluntarily, those people would be pardoned," Susan confessed. "So I did what he said."
"Give me that person’s name," Emily said.
"What are you going to do?" Susan’s face was still pale, her eyes filled with mixed emotions.
"I’ll give him a fair trial," Emily said, her eyes fixed steadily on Susan, as if giving her an invisible strength.
Emily left the room after receiving this useful information. She stood in the hallway outside her room, where the smell of disinfectant water, characteristic of the hospital, lingered in the air. Emily caught a familiar scent amidst the odor.
At this moment, Emily was keenly aware of a familiar sensation behind her, and an indescribable throbbing arose in her heart. She stiffened slightly, then slowly turned to peer into the darkness at the end of the passage. Her voice echoed in the silent hallway, "How long are you going to stand there? Come out."
Klaus slowly emerged from the darkness, dressed in a black trench coat, as if he had descended from the shadows themselves.
"You’re reacting more sharply than ever, kitten," his voice was deep and magnetic.
Emily smiled, "I can sense you."
Since establishing a psychic connection with Klaus, she had been able to perceive him more swiftly.
"Did you get any useful information?" Klaus walked up to Emily and looked at her intently.
"Susan gave me a man’s name," Emily glanced back at the hospital room and lowered her voice, "I suspect that man is the real traitor."
"Tell me the man’s name. I’ll take care of the rest."
Emily hesitated, "Let’s talk about it outside."
Emily knew that Klaus would be able to extract the information he wanted from the man, but she thought it necessary to explain the whole thing to him. So when they arrived outside the hospital, Emily briefed Klaus on what had transpired in the briefest terms.
"So, you think Dyson is behind all this, right?" Klaus stood by the roadside, the cold night wind biting at the frontier, and he opened his coat to wrap Emily in it.
"I guess someone in the pack passed on the message to Dyson, otherwise how could he have saved Susan halfway? For all I knew, Susan had left her pack on a mountain trail and they couldn’t have met. Besides, Susan says she’s being pursued by men who claim to be acting on my orders," Emily felt a little helpless as she said this. She had only sent for Susan, not to hunt her down.
"Do you suspect that Dyson’s men did it?" Klaus asked.
"I think this is all a trap set by Dyson," Emily said. "From the moment I came to the pack, he planned to reveal the secret that I didn’t have a wolf, and his presence was no coincidence."
Klaus pondered for a moment, then said, "Maybe you’re right. But the truth of the matter can only be established after an investigation. Don’t worry; I’ll have Marx arrest the man and question him."
"So can Susan’s trial be delayed?" Emily looked up at Klaus with a hint of pleading in her eyes, "At least you’ll keep her alive until the matter is clear."
Klaus smiled lightly, staring down at Emily, "You’re Luna of the pack, you have the same power as me. If you’re going to keep Susan alive, let her live for the time being."
Emily was a little surprised to hear Klaus’s words, "When did my Alpha become so forgiving?"
Klaus didn’t answer, gently brushing Emily’s windswept hair behind her ears with his hand, "I change for you."
Emily was stunned, and it took her a moment to regain her composure, "Do you think I’m doing the right thing?"
Klaus nodded in agreement, "You’re doing a great job. I overheard your conversation with Susan outside the hospital room, and you were very skillful in persuading her, especially when you mentioned her father."
"I’m telling the truth," Emily pouted disapprovingly, "I do admire the spirit of the Alpha Andrew family to guard the border." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"That’s why you chose to trust Susan?"
Emily nodded, "Since Alpha Andrew is a loyal and benevolent person, then the daughter he has raised will not be a girl with a bad heart. I always thought Susan was being manipulated, that she wanted to be alpha just because she wanted to keep the land. Alpha Andrew’s family has guarded the border for generations, and they naturally assumed that the land belonged to them. Like a faithful general guarding his king, they would not allow anyone to deprive them of their authority."
Klaus looked at Emily in silence, studying her as if he were seeing her for the first time.
"What a surprise it is to see your insight," Klaus said with a hint of appreciation in his tone. "Maybe you’re right; I shouldn’t always keep you under my wing. My kitten needs to grow."
Emily smiled with relief, "Klaus, I’m glad we didn’t argue this time."
If it had been before, he would have never let her interfere in these matters; he would have handled them alone. But this time was different, and in some ways, she and Klaus seemed to have reached an understanding.
Or rather, he began to learn to listen to her, and he was willing to trust her and follow her advice.
Their relationship was no longer one-sided but tended toward equality. She liked that way of getting along.
Klaus kissed Emily on the cheek, "Let’s go home first, kitten."
He put his arm around her, and they walked down the street. The autumn evening was breezy and cool. The trees lining the streets were already tinged with gold, and the leaves swayed gently in the wind, dropping a few like butterflies now and then.
The soft glow of the streetlights stretched their figures. Klaus held Emily close, and she nestled into his arms, feeling his warmth. The sound of their feet echoed through the silent streets as if it were a romantic melody.
........
The next day, Klaus brought new news to Emily, telling her that Marx had captured the man who passed the message to Susan. After being questioned, the man confessed that Dyson had hired him. It was he who revealed Susan’s whereabouts to Dyson, and then he followed Dyson’s instructions and teamed up with several members of the pack to hunt down Susan while pretending to be the killer.
He was also spreading rumors that Emily had killed Susan. It was he, too, who incited the members of the pack to launch the coup d’état when Susan was under house arrest.
The man confessed that it was all Dyson’s plan, and he alone was responsible for its execution.
Either way, the whole thing was finally coming to light. Emily was relieved.
"What are you going to do with Dyson?" Emily asked.
"I will tell the king what he has done. He will be punished as he deserves," Klaus replied.
"Do you think the king is really going to punish Dyson?" Emily said uncertainly. "After all, Dyson is also the son of the king, and now the king is more concerned about the war with the West."
"I’ve secretly sent someone to capture Dyson, and if he falls into my hands, he’ll be dead," Klaus’s eyes gleamed fiercely. "This time, I’m not going to tolerate him."
Then Emily tentatively asked, "And what are you going to do with Susan?"
"And what do you want to do with her?" Klaus asked rhetorically.
