Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 144 I Will Challenge You
Marx and Dolly stood guard at the study door, and when they spotted Emily, they trailed her to the outer part of the house. Perched on the steps, she silently observed the protesting throng for a moment.
Emily signaled to Marx to hush them, and Marx bellowed at them, "Quiet down! Luna has something to say to you."
The group’s voices subsided, but one of them, unconvinced, shouted back at Marx, "Why should we follow your orders?"
"Quiet, Fred," Susan intervened, stepping out and addressing the man in the cap. "Let’s hear what she has to say."
Soon, the group fell silent as Emily spoke, "I understand your opposition to the pack merger, but it’s the king’s decision. Since I joined the pack, I’ve been working tirelessly to boost our economy and improve your lives. Yet, what have you given me in return? You spread rumors behind my back and even planted bombs at my house. Have I retaliated against you for that?"
Some couldn’t help but bow their heads when they heard this. They were silent for a spell, and then someone muttered, "But you don’t have wolves. You can’t lead a pack."
"If I can prove that I do have wolves, will you accept my rule and cease your rebellion against me?" Emily inquired.
The men were silent, exchanging glances, until their eyes finally rested on Susan, awaiting her decision.
"Then let them see your wolf," a voice called out from the back of the crowd. Gina, holding Dyson’s arm, walked slowly forward.
Emily cast a disdainful glance at Dyson and Gina, whose ornate attire seemed out of sync with the atmosphere.
"Did you sleep well in the barn last night, Alpha Dyson?" Emily’s tone dripped with sarcasm.
The crowd parted to let Dyson through, who approached Emily and the protesters. Dyson’s face remained serene, unfazed by Emily’s words. He gazed at Emily, raised his eyebrows slightly, and said in a monotonous tone, "I didn’t sleep in the barn last night. I guess I disappointed you."
"Luna Emily, since they don’t believe you have wolves, why don’t you prove it to them?" Dyson stared at Emily with a mischievous gleam in his eye. "Or do you really not have one?"
"It’s a matter within my pack. It’s none of your concern," Emily responded coldly to Dyson.
"As a representative of the royal family, I believe it’s my duty to inform the king of everything happening to the Green Forest pack," Dyson whispered to Emily. "If the king learns that you don’t have a wolf, do you think he’ll allow you to stay in the north?"
Gina smiled sinisterly, "Emily, you dare not shift into a wolf, do you?" Her voice was sharp and harsh, tinged with defiance.
"Shift, shift!" The man in the cap shouted excitedly, his face alight with anticipation. He waved his arms vigorously, his voice rising above the crowd. Others echoed his chant.
In the midst of the general uproar, Emily’s eyes suddenly grew fierce. She bowed her head slightly, and her body began to tremble slightly. Immediately afterward, there was a blood-curdling snap of bones, crisp and terrifying, as if it were music from hell. Every cracking sound strained the hearts of those around her, and the atmosphere was instantly tensioned to the utmost.
As the bones continued to mutate and reassemble, Emily gradually transformed into a she-wolf. Her body was covered with hair as white as snow, which gleamed mysteriously in the sunlight. Her eyes were like two brilliant sapphires, revealing majesty and wisdom. Her limbs were strong and powerful, and her claws were as sharp as knives, making her seem capable of tearing through any enemy with ease.
Once the transformation was complete, Emily lifted her head and let out a deafening wolfish howl toward the sky. The sound seemed to travel through time and space, echoing throughout the pack. The howl of the wolf was so full of power and majesty that everyone was startled. It served as both a warning to the enemy and a demonstration of her own strength.
The vicious smile on Gina’s face froze for an instant, replaced by shock and horror. She had never imagined that Emily would dare to change into her wolf form in front of everyone. The man in the cap also widened his eyes and opened his mouth slightly, as if stunned by the sight before him. The others were silent too, awed by Emily’s wolfish howl.
Since Emily’s clothes were torn when she changed into her wolf form, she had to return to her room to change again.
When she emerged once more, the sun was shining on the ground, but it could not dispel the tension that hung in the air. The protesters whispered among themselves, their faces a mixture of unease and anticipation. Some frowned, as if they feared what was coming; others had twinkling eyes and seemed to be thinking about something. Susan stood before them like a proud general.
When she saw Emily come out, Susan did not hesitate to approach her. Her eyes were fixed on Emily, and she did not flinch in the least.
"Luna Emily, we’ve just made a decision. I will challenge you," Susan looked up, her tone firm.
"What are you talking about?" Emily looked at Susan in amazement. Was the girl crazy?
"According to the traditional rules of the pack, if someone in the pack disobeys the leader, that person can challenge the ruler," Susan said.
"To be exact, if more than half of the wolves disobey the current ruler’s management, then they can elect a representative to challenge the ruler," Emily paused for two seconds. She looked at Susan with sharp eyes, "This is a battle of life and death, have you figured it out?"
According to the rules of the pack, the two parties involved in a duel must fight each other to the death, and the winner becomes the ruler of the pack.
This rule applies to any pack.
If Susan is going to challenge Emily, she has to kill Emily. Alternatively, Emily must kill Susan.
"Yes," Susan said, "I’m going to challenge you, Luna Emily." Her voice was clear and firm, without the least hesitation or fear.
"But I don’t fight with underage girls," Emily’s eyes narrowed slightly, and her tone was indifferent. "Since you claim that I don’t have the support of the wolves, what about you? Have you got the support of any wolves?"
Susan smiled slightly, "My wolf is already here, and I believe it’s the will of the moon god. Surely you’re surprised?"
Here comes her wolf? Emily’s brow furrowed slightly, "Do you really want to challenge me?"
"I don’t want to repeat it," Susan was resolute. "Luna Emily, if you accept my challenge, I’ll be waiting for you in the ring. Now, tell me your decision."
Emily was silent, not knowing what to do.
"Luna Emily, don’t you dare to accept Susan’s challenge?" Dyson fanned the flames.
Gina glanced at Emily with a vicious look, "Maybe her wolf isn’t as strong as we thought, so she didn’t dare take on the challenge."
It must have been a bad idea for Susan to go behind their backs, and now they were pushing her into the abyss.
"Duel Susan, Luna Emily," Dyson shouted, his chin slightly raised as if he were in control. "I will witness this duel as a notary."
Dyson’s voice rang through the air, full of defiance and incitement.
At Dyson’s instigation, the men, who had recovered their composure, were once again in high spirits. Their faces were full of excitement, and their eyes burned with fervent fire.
They raised their arms aloft, waved vigorously, and shouted new slogans, "Duel, duel, duel."
