Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 111 I Changed My Mind
"First question," Heidi said, giving a fierce look. "When did you and Elijah meet?"
The sharp blade of the dagger pressed against Emily’s neck, and with the slightest pressure from Heidi’s hand, it could slice her throat at any moment. Emily’s breathing grew heavy, and she answered Heidi truthfully, "I saved him once, when I was a girl."
"Where?"
"In my pack."
Heidi’s eyes darkened instantly, and she muttered to herself, "Was it the first time he went on a mission to the south?"
"And then what?" Heidi asked.
"Then he went away, and I never saw him again," Emily explained. "Nothing happened between me and him."
"That’s it?" Heidi’s tone was one of disbelief.
"That’s it."
Heidi stared at Emily, her tone filled with jealousy and frustration, "You’ve only met him once, and he cares so much about you. And I’ve done so much, and I can’t compare to your status in his heart."
"Does he like you because of your face?" Heidi slowly moved the dagger in her hand to Emily’s cheek. "If I ruin your face, do you think he’ll still like you?"
This crazy woman, Emily cursed inwardly.
"Why don’t we give it a try?" Heidi’s mouth curved into a grim smile as she increased the pressure on her hand, and in the next second, a trail of bright red blood was trickling slowly down the blade of the dagger.
Emily could clearly feel the sting of the dagger on her face, and her brow furrowed as her hands clenched into fists.
Definitely don’t show weakness to this crazy woman, Emily. Don’t let her have her way.
"Your eyes tell me you hate me, don’t you?" Heidi smiled eerily. "This is just the beginning, Your Highness. You know what I usually do to my prey, don’t you?"
She put her mouth close to Emily’s ear, "I’ll cut off the flesh of my prey piece by piece with a knife while it’s still alive, and then slowly torture them to death. I can’t kill you, but I can make you miserable."
"It’s because he doesn’t love you that you hate me, right?" Emily said sarcastically. "You’re pathetic."
"How dare you speak to me like that!" Heidi’s eyes widened, and her voice was sharp and furious. "You fucking woman, I’m going to kill you."
Just as she raised her dagger to stab Emily, a vibrating sound came from Heidi’s pocket, and her hand froze in mid-air before slowly lowering.
Heidi pushed Emily away and stood up to answer the phone. She moved to the other side of the room, her back to Emily.
"Yes, she’s right next to me," Heidi said, deliberately muffling her voice, but it was still clear in the quiet warehouse. "There are damn Southern soldiers everywhere at every intersection right now, and I’ll have to find a place to hide before I can meet you after dark."
Emily listened attentively to every word Heidi said, and she guessed that the man who called Heidi must be the Wolf King of the West. Emily still couldn’t understand why the man named Elijah would want her.
What was his exact purpose?
"What? You’ll come and fetch her yourself?" Heidi sneered. "Elijah, don’t you trust me?"
After a brief silence, Heidi said, "Okay, I’ll send you the location."
Was he coming to meet her? Emily suddenly felt uneasy. If he came, there would be no chance for her to escape.
Emily quickly glanced around the warehouse and noticed a pitchfork hidden beneath a haystack, its handle peeking out from the corner. The brown handle shone like a glimmer of light in the darkness, igniting hope in Emily’s heart.
She glanced up at Heidi, who was facing away from her, her attention completely focused on her phone, head down, as if she were sending something of the utmost importance.
Emily didn’t hesitate for an instant. She took a deep breath, then, grabbing the pitchfork, she rushed towards Heidi.
As Heidi heard the footsteps and was about to turn around, Emily raised the pitchfork high and struck Heidi on the back of the head with all her strength. For a moment, the air seemed to freeze, and only the dull thud of the pitchfork against Heidi’s skull echoed through the warehouse.
Heidi’s body lurched forward like a felled tree. Emily hastily dropped the pitchfork and flung open the heavy door of the warehouse, its hinges creaking as she pushed it wide. Then she darted out.
Outside the warehouse, the sky had darkened, like a vast black curtain draped over the earth. A light drizzle fell, wetting Emily’s cheeks, and a slight chill made her shiver.
She stumbled blindly through the quiet woods, her steps unsteady and hurried. The tree branches were like menacing shadows, and every now and then, they sliced through her skin, leaving thin trails of blood. The thorns, too, pierced her flesh relentlessly, sending sharp pangs through her body.
But Emily had no time to dwell on pain; her mind was consumed by a single thought: to run as fast as she could. Fear, like an invisible vise, clenched her heart. She didn’t know when Heidi would catch up or if she would ever escape this terrifying nightmare. Every breath was laden with fear and exhaustion, yet she dared not stop.
The forest, however, was vast, and in the darkness, the towering trees stared at her impassively, like silent sentinels. It was as if she had stumbled into a labyrinth, surrounded by endless repetition, unable to find her way out.
Emily’s legs began to falter, as if all her strength had been drained. Her pace slowed, and each step felt impossibly heavy. Suddenly, a dark shape seemed to descend from the sky and materialize before her. At that moment, her heart plummeted, and fear washed over her like a tsunami.
"We’re not done yet, Emily." Heidi stood before Emily, her figure looming menacingly in the darkness. Step by step, she approached Emily, her eyes glinting with a cold light, like those of a ravenous wolf, brimming with cruelty and iciness.
"You know what?" Heidi’s voice echoed through the still woods like the whisper of a specter. Each word she spoke landed like icy droplets on Emily’s ears, sending shivers down her spine.
"I’ve changed my mind." Heidi revealed her sharp wolf claws, which gleamed eerily in the gloom. "I don’t care what your connection to that prophecy is. I can’t let you be with Elijah."
"I’m going to kill you."
"If you kill me, how will you face Elijah?" Emily retreated, her heart heavy with despair. A thick tree trunk pressed against her back, leaving her no escape.
"You must die!" Without hesitation, Heidi lunged at Emily with her wolf claws. It was swift and deadly. The air seemed to solidify in that instant.
