Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 108 She’s Missing
Marx sat in front of the computer, yawning. He hadn’t slept well for days. This time, there was so much to deal with.
As a result of the exposure of their spy networks in the South, the spies they had trained were currently being held in prison. Although Klaus had decided to abandon the spies, Marx believed such a decision would be unwise. After all, those spies had been warriors in the North, and they still had relatives there. Marx hoped Klaus could negotiate to save the spies’ lives.
But now, Klaus’s negotiations with the southern royal family were not going well. And it was at this time that Klaus discovered the trail of the Wolf King of the West. Last night, Marx and Klaus searched all night without finding any sign of Elijah. Klaus was furious, and Marx was exhausted.
Marx was about to turn off his computer and try to get some sleep, but at that moment, he received a new email from the Northern Border Agency in his inbox, which he immediately clicked on.
The contents of the email were the results of Heidi’s investigation. It revealed that the identity card of the woman named Heidi had been purchased through an intermediary, and that on the day she entered the country, Heidi had been seen with a soldier. A few days later, the border patrol discovered that the soldier had been killed. They suspected Heidi of involvement in the soldier’s death.
Most importantly, the border authorities had discovered that Heidi was, in fact, from the West, and it was highly likely that she was acting as a spy for the West.
"Damn, I didn’t think that woman was a spy," Marx immediately reacted, suspecting Heidi’s motives when she deliberately crashed into his car.
Heidi had deliberately bruised herself to get closer to Emily and eventually became Emily’s personal maid. As it turned out, it had all been Heidi’s doing. Could she be a deliberate spy for Elijah, working against Emily?
Marx decided to tell Klaus about Heidi’s true identity first. So, he immediately got up and headed to Klaus’s room.
When Marx reached the floor where Klaus’s room was located, however, he immediately sensed something was wrong. The surveillance camera, which was supposed to be silently performing its duties, was now shattered on the ground, as if it had been hit by some violent impact. There was a faint smell of blood in the air.
Marx’s brow furrowed, and he looked warily around him, then slowly searched for the exact spot where the blood smell originated. He followed the scent to the front of a door, which he tried to push open, but it was locked.
Marx kicked the door vigorously, and after several attempts, it finally opened. The shocking image of a woman falling to the ground, her head and face covered in blood, made Marx’s heart race.
Marx hurriedly crouched down and carefully examined the woman’s injuries. When he saw the woman’s face clearly, shock and doubt instantly welled up in his heart. "Dolly?"
How could it be her? Marx immediately helped Dolly to her feet. "Dolly, can you hear me?"
In a few minutes, Dolly’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, as if all her strength had been spent, before she slowly opened her eyes. She said with difficulty, "Heidi, it’s Heidi..." Her voice was as faint as a broken candle flickering in the wind, and every word seemed to drain all her strength.
"Did Heidi hurt you?" Marx asked eagerly.
"Emily, Emily..." Dolly’s voice was choppy, and her face was pale, drained of blood from her loss. Her lips trembled slightly, as if trying to say something, but the words wouldn’t quite come out.
"What’s wrong with Emily?" Marx asked, grasping Dolly’s shoulders. But just then, Dolly fainted again, her head lolling weakly to one side, and for a moment, Marx’s heart plummeted.
"Damn it!" Marx quickly scooped up Dolly and rushed towards the elevator.
Marx carried the injured Dolly to the hotel lobby and barked at the front desk clerk, "Someone’s injured, call an ambulance!"
"Yes, sir." The female clerk at the front desk was so startled by Marx’s urgency that her voice wavered, and she immediately dialed for an ambulance.
Soon, the doctors arrived at the hotel, hustling in, clad in white scrubs and carrying emergency equipment. The doctors carefully lifted the injured Dolly into the ambulance. Inside the ambulance, Marx tried calling Emily while keeping an eye on Dolly, but his calls went unanswered.
Feeling uneasy, Marx hurriedly dialed Klaus’s number.
The phone rang twice, but Klaus didn’t answer. Marx persisted, and finally, after the fifth call, Klaus picked up.
"Why the hell aren’t you answering your phone?" Marx snapped.
"Watch your tone, Marx," Klaus’s low, irritated voice came through the line, "I’m your Alpha."
"That Heidi, she’s a spy for the West," Marx said frantically. "She hurt Dolly, and I can’t reach Emily. Emily might have had an accident."
"Where are you?"
"Heading to the hospital. You go find Emily."
"Fuck!" Klaus hung up.
Gripping his phone tightly, Marx glanced at Dolly, lying unconscious on the stretcher, his bloodshot eyes brimming with worry and unease.
........
Klaus drove while dialing Emily’s number repeatedly, but Emily’s phone remained silent.
"Emily, please answer the phone," Klaus pleaded, holding his phone tightly, but all he heard was the mechanical beep on the other end.
Klaus’s heart raced, and unease dragged him like a raging tide. He floored the accelerator, and the car darted down the street like a roaring beast.
As he approached an intersection, the red light flashed, glaring angrily at him. Yet, Klaus didn’t hesitate; he gritted his teeth and charged straight through. The car’s tires screeched as they gripped the road violently.
The surroundings became tense and chaotic in an instant. Pedestrians along the roadside watched in horror, letting out exclamations as the car sped furiously. Some vehicles screeched to a halt, their horns blaring one after the other, as if protesting Klaus’s recklessness.
Finally, Klaus returned to the hotel. He braked sharply, and the car skidded across the ground for some distance before coming to a stop. He quickly exited the car and rushed into the hotel lobby. The people in the lobby were shocked by his sudden entrance and cast surprised glances. Klaus ignored them and went straight to the elevator, pressing the button for the highest floor.
The elevator doors opened, and Klaus’s unease intensified as he walked down the hallway and noticed the broken security camera on the floor.
Klaus pushed the door open and his eyes scanned the empty room eagerly. Everything in the room was so still, so quiet, that it was almost painful.
Klaus stood in the center of the room, and the air that lingered with Emily’s scent seemed to be an invisible thread wrapping itself tightly around his heart.
His heart pounded like a drum, and the rhythm was so strong that he could barely think. It was the first time he had ever felt so alarmed, and a sense of helplessness he’d never experienced before overwhelmed him.
"Klaus, calm down," his wolf said to him at that moment. "If you don’t want to lose her."
"I can’t, Leon," Klaus’s voice was filled with unease. "If something happens to Emily..." He dared not think about it any further. The terrible consequences made it difficult for him to breathe.
"Klaus, listen," Klaus’ wolf interrupted. "Try to find her scent first."
"Okay." Klaus struggled to compose himself and, guided by his wolf, he slowly closed his eyes and first adjusted his breathing. Each deep breath was an attempt to grasp at the dissipating scent.
He felt the air rushing through his nasal passages, trying to clear his thoughts. He then searched with his nose for the scent of Emily.
A familiar aura hung in the air, and he was like a man groping in the dark, clinging to the only clue. His body was slightly bent forward, and his nostrils flared slightly, not missing any possible scent. The silence of the room seemed infinitely amplified, except for the faint sound of his breathing and the subtle mingling of odors in the air.
Klaus followed Emily’s scent to the living room, then to the hallway, where he entered the elevator, and finally to the underground parking lot. Emily’s scent became faint here, suggesting that the underground parking lot was where she had ended up.
Klaus approached the hotel manager and requested access to the surveillance footage. The footage showed Heidi pushing a cleaning cart to the underground parking lot, and Klaus couldn’t see Heidi when he arrived at the parking lot because she was in a surveillance blind spot. However, Klaus saw a taxi drive away from the hotel, and he recognized the face of the taxi driver on the footage—it was Heidi.
The only clue now was the taxi, and the taxi’s route had to be traced. But Klaus’s spies in the south were all detained, and he had no men to send.
His only option was to appeal to the royal family of the South. Klaus didn’t hesitate; he immediately summoned representatives of the southern royal family.
