Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 104 Sorry, I Chose to Stay with Him
Emily’s thoughts were like a confused cloud swept by a strong wind, and she didn’t know what to choose. The air around them seemed to freeze, and it was so heavy that it was difficult to breathe. At this moment, a voice that seemed to come from afar whispered to her, "Follow your heart." The sound was as slight as a wisp of cotton floating in the air, as if it were nothing, but it was very distinct to her ears. She was pretty sure it was her wolf’s voice.
"Shirley, is that you?" Emily tried to find the distant voice in the recesses of her mind. But the voice faded away, as if it had never been there. She felt frustrated and helpless.
"So, Emily. What’s your answer?" The gentle voice of King James brought Emily back to her senses, and she rose slowly to her feet.
"Follow your heart, Emily." Again, the words echoed in her head.
"I’m sorry, Your Majesty." Emily summoned up the courage to speak, her voice not loud, but firm and strong. "I don’t want to dissolve this marriage."
"Emily, have you figured it out?" Prince Adam’s eyes were wide with surprise, and he kept trying to persuade Emily, "Why would you rather go north than stay here? In the South, you have your friends, me, and your father. Emily, stay for us."
Father? It’s your father, not mine. Emily thought to herself: My mother died when I was born, and I have no father. Where were you when I was persecuted by my stepmother? It’s too late for you to make amends with me.
"Your Majesty, Your Highness." Emily looked at King James and Prince Adam simultaneously, and she took a deep breath, "My decision will not change. Thank you for lunch. Goodbye."
Emily finished and left her seat, her steps firm and resolute. Prince Adam rose and tried to run after her, but King James stopped him. "Adam, let her go."
"Father, why didn’t you let me stop her?" Prince Adam asked, puzzled, his face full of anxiety and loss. "You want Emily to stay in the South, don’t you?"
King James sighed as he gazed at Emily’s distant back, his eyes full of helplessness. "We can’t change her decision because she’s already in love with that man."
At this, Prince Adam sat back in his chair, his eyes hollow and bewildered, as if he had lost the most important thing. The sun was still shining on them, but for the moment, it seemed pale and faint.
Emily stood in the street, where the boisterous voices of the people mingled with the roar of vehicles. She stared in a daze at the traffic and pedestrians on the road, and the hurrying figures seemed like vague phantoms, making her feel extremely lonely. For a moment, she didn’t know where to go, and her heart seemed to be in such turmoil that she couldn’t find a clue.
Just then, however, Emily’s phone vibrated slightly, and she received a message. Emily couldn’t wait to pull out her phone and saw that it was Klaus who had sent it.
"I’m at the hotel - Krause."
He finally replied to her message, and Emily was overjoyed. She immediately replied to Klaus with a message: "I’m on my way."
Emily hailed a taxi back to the hotel, her emotions churning like a tempestuous sea. In that instant, she longed to return to Klaus, to embrace him and bask in his warmth; she yearned to confess, face-to-face, the depth of her affection.
However, the moment Emily pushed open the door, she was met with a surge of excitement, swiftly replaced by a chill of unease. An atmosphere of gloom and detachment enveloped her, and she immediately sensed that something was amiss. The oppressive aura, akin to a frigid tide, swiftly quenched her joy.
The room was shrouded in darkness, the curtains blocking out most of the light, allowing only a few feeble rays to sneak through the cracks, casting the space in a somber hue. The feeble light struggled vainly against the oppressive gloom.
Klaus stood before the window, his back to Emily, his silhouette barely discernible in the dim light. He slowly turned as he heard Emily’s footsteps.
"You’re back, my love," Klaus said, his voice low and raspy. His eyes held a complex mix of indifference, exhaustion, and a fleeting, elusive emotion.
Emily gazed at him, somewhat dazed. She longed to draw closer, yet the sense of alienation emanating from him halted her. She remained rooted to the spot.
"Where did you go last night?" Emily asked softly, "Why couldn’t I reach you?"
Klaus hesitated before answering, scrutinizing Emily with a piercing gaze that seemed to delve into her very soul, momentarily making her uneasy.
"I went to seek someone out last night," he said.
"Who?" Emily asked, her unease intensifying.
"A man I despise above all others," Klaus sneered, approaching Emily with a grim smile tinged with coldness and sarcasm. "Do you wish to know who he is?"
Klaus’s unusual demeanor made Emily feel as if he were a stranger, and she was at a loss for words. Her heart was a maelstrom of confusion and fear. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
He shoved Emily into a corner and held the phone up to her face. As he swiped his finger across the screen, an image of a man appeared.
It was a somber face, with a slender chin, long black hair, and gray eyes. It was him, the man who had appeared at the mall.
Emily’s eyes widened in shock. "You were searching for him last night?"
Seeing Emily’s expression change, Klaus’s knuckles tightened around the phone, and a spark of anger ignited in his dark green eyes.
"Have you seen him?" Klaus’s voice was laced with suspicion and anger.
"I...," Emily stammered, vaguely aware that Klaus seemed to know something. Her heart was torn between contradictions and fears, and she didn’t know how to respond to his questioning.
"Tell me, did you see him at the mall that day?" Klaus’s sharp gaze pierced Emily’s heart like an arrow. "Tell me the truth."
"Klaus, please hear me out," Emily pleaded.
"Tell me, have you seen him?" Klaus pressed his hand to Emily’s neck, his hand trembling slightly. "Answer me."
"Yes," Emily conceded, realizing there was no point in hiding it any longer.
Klaus released his hand and took a few steps back, shaking his head slightly, a look of disappointment etched on his face.
"Emily, do you recall when I told you about the man I despise the most?" Klaus said, his voice low and hoarse, filled with pain and anger. "Not only did that man take my former companion’s life, but he also gravely injured my other eye. I swear I will hunt him down and kill him for the rest of my days. He’s the man you just saw on your phone. His name is Elijah, and he’s the Alpha of the Western wolves."
How could it be him? Emily was shocked. It never occurred to her that the boy she had rescued was actually the Wolf King of the West. And he was Klaus’s most hated enemy.
"I reviewed the surveillance footage from the mall," Klaus said, his eyes betraying a deep disappointment and anger, as if the pain of betrayal was consuming him. "You and he were in that small room, weren’t you, Emily? Why do you lie to me?"
Emily’s lips trembled slightly. "Would you forgive me if I told you the truth?"
