Chapter 103: Chapter 103 You Can Dissolve This Marriage

Emily was awakened by the insistent ringing of the telephone. Half-squinting her eyes, she moved languidly to the bedside table and fumbled for the phone.

"Hey, this is Adam." Prince Adam’s gentle voice came from the other end of the line. "Are you up, Emily?"

"Adam?" Emily rubbed her eyes and gradually came to her senses. She slowly sat up in bed. "Yes, I’m awake."

"My father wants to have lunch with you. Are you free?" There was a hint of anticipation in Prince Adam’s voice.

"The king wants to have lunch with me?" Emily was a little stunned. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "Okay." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"I’ll pick you up in ten minutes." Prince Adam’s tone was light and pleasant. "I’ll see you later."

However, her heart sank as her gaze darted across the bed. The space that had belonged to Klaus was empty, and the flat sheets seemed to silently testify to his absence.

Hadn’t Klaus returned last night? Puzzled, Emily involuntarily made her way to the drawing room. The floor was littered with empty bottles, remnants of last night’s indulgence with Dolly. The ashtray was clean, devoid of even a single cigarette butt. Silence reigned in the room, and the familiar scent of Klaus had vanished without a trace. All this made it clear that Klaus had not returned last night.

Where had he gone? An infinite number of questions swirled in Emily’s mind. A feeling of unease came over her, and she immediately picked up her phone to check for any messages from Klaus. However, the inbox was empty, and there was no word from him.

Disappointed and worried, Emily bit her lip and didn’t hesitate to call Klaus. But there was a mechanical prompt on the other end of the line: "Hello, the user you are dialing cannot be reached at the moment. Please try again later." The cold voice struck Emily like a hammer to her heart.

He had never disappeared like this without a reason; could something have happened to him? Emily was worried about Klaus, so she tried calling Mark’s number, but she couldn’t get through.

Perhaps they were attending to something urgent together. Emily comforted herself by sending a text message to Klaus’s phone: "Klaus, please call me back when you see this."

Ten minutes later, Prince Adam texted Emily to inform her that his car was waiting for her downstairs. So, Emily hopped into Prince Adam’s car and headed for the restaurant.

They then took an elevator to the top floor, where they dined in what looked like a hanging garden. As soon as Emily stepped inside, it was as if she had stepped into a dream world. The richly colored flowers bloomed one after the other, exuding a fragrant atmosphere, like a gorgeous sea of blossoms. Verdant vines wound their way over the white railings, adding a touch of natural vibrancy. The carefully arranged tables and chairs were staggered, and every detail exuded sophistication and elegance.

In the midst of this overhanging garden, King James was already waiting for them. When the king saw Emily, he smiled kindly at once.

"Emily, you’re here."

"Your Majesty," Emily respectfully saluted King James.

"You don’t need to bow the next time you see me," King James said kindly. "Have you forgotten what I told you before? Henceforth, treat me as if I were your father."

"Yes," Emily replied softly.

"Sit down," King James said.

Then Prince Adam pulled out a chair for Emily, and all three of them sat down. At that moment, sunlight streamed through the clear glass dome, casting a warm glow over the entire dining area.

Soon, the waiters began serving a variety of delicacies, one after another. There were succulent grilled steaks, charred on the outside and tender on the inside, with a tantalizing aroma. There were delicate French-style roasted snails, served with a rich herb butter sauce, which had a mellow flavor. There were also brightly colored vegetable salads, and in addition, there were a variety of delicious desserts, such as chocolate cake and fruit tarts, that were mouth-watering.

King James looked at Emily with a smile and said, "These are for you. I hope you like them."

Emily was a little flattered and quickly said, "Your Majesty, you’re too kind."

King James waved his hand and said, "Don’t be so formal. Now we’re like family."

Emily nodded, and during the meal, King James occasionally asked about Emily’s life in the North, which seemed to fascinate him.

At the end of the meal, the soft sunlight illuminated the table, creating a warm atmosphere. King James looked at Emily and said solemnly, "Emily, I know that you were forced to go to the North to marry. Tell me, do you still want to continue this marriage?"

"Do I have any other choice?" Emily’s tone was filled with bitterness. She lowered her eyes slightly and bit her lip, as if trying to suppress her emotions. "I’m married."

"Emily, what my father means is that if you don’t want to accept this marriage, he can help you dissolve your marriage with Alpha Klaus," Prince Adam whispered, his eyes full of concern. "Since you were forced to go to the North to marry, this marriage is not legally binding."

"You mean that the king is going to help me dissolve my marriage to Klaus, if I’m not willing to continue, right?" Emily asked, a puzzled expression on her face.

"Yes," Prince Adam replied.

"Emily, I know you’ve been through a lot," King James said calmly. "I said I would take care of you, so if this marriage hurts you, I’ll help you undo it."

Emily was stunned for a moment. It had never occurred to her that such a choice would be presented to her, and for a moment, her heart was in turmoil. She didn’t know how to respond.

"Emily, if you agree to end your marriage to Klaus, you can stay in the South, and you’ll be free from then on," Prince Adam persuaded her. "No one will force you to do anything you don’t want to do anymore. You can even live in a royal palace and live like a princess. Emily, agree to your father’s offer."

"But..." Emily hesitated. "If I divorce Klaus, what will happen to the alliance between the North and the South?"

Emily’s heart was in knots. She had always believed that her marriage to Klaus was founded on an alliance between the North and the South, and she had consistently told herself that she was burdened with responsibilities and obligations tied to her country’s interests. But now, it seemed the marriage wasn’t as significant as she had imagined.

"I will choose another woman to marry in the North, and I’m certain the King of the North won’t mind. After all, marriage is merely one means of maintaining relations between our two nations. It truly doesn’t matter who the bride is to Alariclaus or the King of the North." King James explained, "I only care about how you feel. Tell me, Emily, do you wish to dissolve your marriage to Klaus?"

"I..." Emily felt as if she were caught in a massive whirlpool, unsure of how to respond to King James.

Yes, she had dreamed of a free life countless times. From the moment she was born, her life had been destined to be controlled by others. But now that she had a choice, why was she hesitating?

Would she be content with leaving Klaus? Would she be able to accept Klaus marrying another woman? And if she chose to continue the marriage, but she and Klaus were not companions, would their marriage truly endure?

"Emily, tell me what you’ve decided," Prince Adam whispered to her. "Tell Father that you are willing to dissolve your marriage to Alpha Klaus."

King James watched her silently at that moment, awaiting her decision.
