After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me-Chapter 198: I’m Pregnant (2)
"You want me to stay in the dormitory?" Mason Baker was reluctant, "What will people think of me?"
"At this point, why do you care what others think? You’re not part of the Baker Clan anymore. Everyone will know this. Just transfer your residence registration to our Quinn Family."
"..."
——
"Second brother, have you had lunch?" Sophie Bennett hummed a tune as she sat in front of Emma Bennett.
"I have. Are you in a good mood?"
Sophie Bennett laughed, "Of course, I’m in a good mood because Charles Sharp took a huge hit today. He didn’t go to the office or stay at home. No one knows where he is."
"He took a huge hit, and you’re happy as his wife?"
"For other matters, I might not be happy, but for this one, I’m thrilled. Second brother, didn’t I tell you before that Charles Sharp and Lucy Eaton have a complicated relationship?"
"Yes, so what?"
"Now I believe everything Lucy Eaton said is true. She probably isn’t interested in Charles Sharp; it’s him who’s wishful thinking."
"Why do you believe it now?"
Sophie Bennett was surprised, "Huh? Second brother, don’t you know today’s sensational news?"
"News? What news?"
"Lucy Eaton met with Jacob Green, our elder brother, sister-in-law, and parents."
Emma Bennett shook his head, "I wasn’t feeling well last night and didn’t sleep much. Got up at eleven, just had lunch. Why was Miss Eaton with Jacob Green at the Presidential Mansion?"
"Because Jacob Green is her husband."
A deafening explosion went off in Emma Bennett’s mind. He stammered, "You... what did you say? Jacob Green?"
"Yes, Jacob Green is Lucy Eaton’s husband. Father even gave them a painting he made as a gift."
Emma Bennett thought about the Prime Minister being investigated and released last night, surely with Jacob Green’s help.
"I knew she was married, but I didn’t know who her husband was. I heard he was a corporate executive; I didn’t imagine it was Jacob Green."
"I didn’t expect it either. Lucy Eaton is quite formidable, silently winning over Jacob Green." Jealousy flickered in Sophie Bennett’s eyes, "I wish I had her skills."
"Is your relationship with your brother-in-law still bad?"
"Sometimes we don’t say a word all day. It seems like he gets annoyed just by seeing me. I know I’m not easy to talk to, but I’m just stating facts. I’m his wife now, and he treats me like this, wouldn’t anyone be angry?"
"Men are more receptive to softness than harshness. You shouldn’t provoke him with harsh words all the time. You should put more effort into making him see you differently. Go back now, my headache is starting again."
"When will second brother’s headaches get better?"
"Who knows."
Sophie Bennett stood up, "Alright, I won’t disturb you anymore. I’m leaving."
"Hmm."
Hearing the door close, Emma Bennett put down the hand pressing his temple. It had been a while since his head hurt, and taking the medicine Lucy Eaton’s people sent, his condition had improved a lot. It was the injection last night that made him lose sleep.
"Theodore, come in."
Theodore Fenn entered, "Your Highness."
"Close the door. I have something to ask you."
Theodore Fenn faintly sensed what he was going to be asked and obediently closed the door, "Please ask, Your Highness."
"You’re one of Jacob Green’s people, aren’t you?"
This wasn’t a question but a statement of certainty.
Theodore Fenn admitted, "Yes."
"Lucy Eaton is your mistress."
"Correct, she’s my Young Madam."
"Do they get along well as a couple?"
"I’ve always been in Northriver, so I’m not clear on their specific situation." Theodore Fenn had to relay what he’d heard, "But from what I’ve heard, others say the young master is very fond of the Young Madam. They got their marriage certificate without informing the family and it was only much later that the Green Family found out."
"Describe your young master’s appearance to me."
Theodore Fenn responded, "The young master has peach blossom eyes, a small tear mole on the left eye, crescent lips, a high-bridged nose, dimples on his face, 188 cm tall, and is very fit from regular workouts."
Emma Bennett waved his hand, "Alright, you can get back to work."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Alone there, he thought of the name Lucy Eaton used while abroad and mused to himself: "Evelyn Butler, Lucy... Green?"
——
"Here."
Watson saw the strawberry-flavored ice cream James Foster handed over. She took it with a shy smile, "Aren’t you having some?"
"I bought it specially for you. It’s quite hot today. I saw you’ve been busy all morning. Don’t overwork yourself."
Watson felt a warmth in her heart, "I’m not tired. It’s air-conditioned here, not hot at all. No one is criticizing me, and the salary is high. I feel like this is the best working environment since I started working. I’m really grateful to Lucy and you."
"You can thank her, but there’s no need to thank me." He leaned in and softly said, "I’m your fiancé. No need for thanks."
With the two so close, Watson’s face turned red, her heart racing. Holding the ice cream, she turned her back, "I’ll go finish this off before it melts."
James Foster found her escape adorable.
He turned around and saw Mary Pond standing at the staircase.
"Can I have a few minutes with you?"
James Foster didn’t know what she wanted to discuss, but he nodded, "Let’s talk in a booth downstairs."
Mary Pond agreed, and the two went to a booth one after the other.
"What do you want to talk about?"
Mary Pond sat down, "Why are you engaged to Watson?"
"Because I’m satisfied with her as a match."
"Do you love her?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"It’s too early to talk about love; I do genuinely like her."
Mary Pond twirled her fingers, "You once said you wanted me to be your girlfriend. Does that still stand?"
James Foster was taken aback. She was referring to when they met at the hotel that night. Meeting her, he had said he wanted her as his girlfriend, but Mary Pond saw him only as bait and couldn’t agree, so she said she’d think about it.
"That was a long time ago. Everything has an expiration date. It no longer stands."
Mary Pond anticipated this result, but she couldn’t help wanting to try, "Can’t you give me another chance?"
James Foster disliked hiding things and always spoke plainly.
"I no longer have feelings for you."
Mary Pond bit her lip and was silent momentarily.
After a pause, she said softly, "Then please don’t be kind to me in the future. I might get the wrong idea."
She regretted saying this as soon as she did, but the words couldn’t be taken back.
"I treat you the same as anyone else. No special treatment," James Foster clarified, "If you think that’s being kind, then I’ll keep even more distance from you going forward."
"Hmm."
James Foster left first, leaving Mary Pond seated there, her nose a bit sore.
