After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me-Chapter 199: I’m Pregnant (3)
She had fallen for James Foster, not just recently; he was the one she wanted to rely on, but he was no longer interested in her.
This left her feeling bitter and miserable.
Ever since Watson started coming to the shop, she could see that James was still very attentive to Watson. He would wait for Watson to arrive before eating, serve her rice and soup, and when going to the supermarket, he’d never forget to buy snacks for Watson. When there were no customers, he would stand at the second-floor entrance to secretly watch Watson.
All his actions were noticed by Mary Pond.
He and Watson had just met, and judging by his attitude, James Foster was quite satisfied with Watson. If Watson wasn’t satisfied with him, their marriage would be particularly cautious.
Thinking of this, Mary Pond walked out of the private room.
After work in the evening, she took her pajamas to go shower, and Watson was already in the shower.
In this place, only James Foster’s bedroom had a bathroom. The other rooms had no bathrooms. There were two bathrooms on the third floor, as well as two large shower rooms, separated by gender.
After all, if after a long day, one still had to wait for a shower, with so many employees, who knows how long one would have to wait.
In the shower room, there were only Watson and Mary Pond.
This was the first time Mary Pond encountered Watson in the shower since Watson started coming to the shop.
"Watson, how many boyfriends have you had before?"
"I’ve never dated anyone. My mom’s afraid I’d marry far away or marry badly, so she doesn’t let me date."
"Then do you know how many girlfriends James had before?"
Watson shook her head, "I don’t know, I’ve never asked him. Even if he had girlfriends before, that’s all in the past."
"Before you, James had a girlfriend named Chloe White, who died very young."
Watson was surprised, "Died...?"
"Yes, she was a university student who died in a small clinic due to an abortion gone wrong." Mary Pond noticed her face wasn’t looking good, and added, "Chloe White was his ex-girlfriend, but I don’t know if I count as his ex-ex-girlfriend."
"You?" Watson was even more shocked, "You and James..."
"I met him online, and we once met in a hotel."
Watson’s face turned as white as paper, "Hotel?"
"Yes, exactly."
What could a man and woman possibly do meeting in a hotel?
"But that’s all in the past. Don’t tell him I told you, otherwise, he’ll blame me for being talkative."
Watson turned her face away, "Don’t you feel awkward working and meeting him here?"
"He was the one who let me work here. I have no family left, my parents have passed away, I have no one to rely on." Mary Pond continued, "James is very good to his friends, especially to Lucy. It’s rare for friends to be as close as he is."
Watson turned off the shower, took out a towel to dry her hair and body, "I know this. They are closer than family. When they got engaged, James said upfront that if I couldn’t accept Lucy as a close female friend, then we shouldn’t get engaged. I accepted this. Today, I saw on the news that Lucy’s husband is handsome and wealthy. I don’t doubt her relationship with James at all."
"Many girls actually can’t accept their boyfriend or husband having such a close friend."
"Why can’t they accept it? Although I don’t have really good male friends, they grew up together, knowing each other for many years. This friendship is precious, and it’s unreasonable to forgo it for the sake of a girlfriend or wife." She got dressed, "I’m done showering, I’ll head back to the room first."
"Okay, I’ll keep showering."
Watson returned to her room, sat by the bed without moving, thinking about what Mary Pond said. Her mood was like being scorched by fire; on one hand, she told herself it was all in the past, but on the other hand, his behavior of meeting internet friends at hotels and getting a girlfriend to have an abortion was just...
After contemplating for a while, she went to knock on James Foster’s door.
Just like Watson, James Foster had just finished showering and opened the door wearing only a pair of shorts and no shirt.
Seeing her standing at the door in a nightgown, James Foster was quite delighted, "Watson, why didn’t you dry your hair?"
"Haven’t had the chance to yet."
"Come in, I’ll dry your hair for you."
She entered and sat on the chair. James Foster first combed her hair with a brush, then used a hairdryer to dry her hair.
Though Watson originally had something to say, she suddenly didn’t know what to say now.
After drying her hair, James Foster asked, "Do you have something to say to me?"
She nodded, "Yes."
James Foster put away the hairdryer, "What’s so hard for you to say?"
Watson stood up from the chair and faced him, "James, do you think I can make you stay faithful?"
Stay faithful?
James Foster chuckled a bit, "I’ve dated girlfriends, but I’m not a philanderer. Do you see me as a player?"
"What do you think makes someone a player?"
"Hmm..." James Foster pondered, "Having a girlfriend or wife but still flirting around, not using protection even for their own pleasure, not being responsible when the girlfriend gets pregnant, violence, gambling, drugs are all a no-go, and leaving all child-rearing responsibilities to the wife with no involvement..."
"How many of those do you fit?"
"None."
"Liar." Watson’s nose tingled with sourness, "I heard you had a girlfriend before named Chloe White who died from an abortion."
"Yes, my ex-girlfriend was called Chloe White, and she died because of an abortion at a small clinic, but that child wasn’t mine. Her death had nothing to do with me."
Watson was slightly stunned, "Not yours? How do you know?"
"Because I never touched her. How could it have been mine?" James Foster’s eyes narrowed slightly, "Who told you this?"
"Someone else did."
"Who is this someone else?"
"Answer me one question, and I’ll tell you."
James Foster smiled, "Oh, you’ve learned to bargain? Alright, ask away."
"Honestly tell me, how many times did you meet with female internet friends before? What you did when you didn’t have a girlfriend is your own business, I just want to know about your past, and I hope you’ll be honest with me."
James Foster immediately knew who had told her about his matters, as not many people knew about him meeting internet friends.
"Only once, with Mary Pond. But we didn’t do anything because she took my clothes and wallet when I was in the shower. Her father had stomach cancer, and her part-time job earned very little. Not knowing how to quickly make money, she resorted to luring male internet friends online. It was Lucy who brought clothes to the hotel for me."
He spoke so fluently, and his gaze was so sincere, it was hard not to believe him.
"I have no reason to lie to you, especially since we don’t have deep feelings for each other yet. Mary Pond must have said those things to you. She spoke with me privately today. That night at the hotel, I said something like I wanted her to be my girlfriend, but she said she’d consider it. She asked me today if it still counted, and I said it didn’t. She’s working here because it was Lucy’s suggestion, as she had been severely beaten by a man who once deceived her. It was I who sent her to the hospital, Lucy knew about it too and felt she was going through a hard time. Since the shop was hiring, we brought her here."
