After Rebirth, I Took Revenge On My Scumbag Ex-Alpha Mate!-Chapter 30: Screwing My Ex-Husband Over
KALIA
"Liana?" Darren asked in disbelief. He sounded very surprised but I didn’t know why.
Was she a past lover? A girlfriend or perhaps a business colleague? I didn’t know what to think so I just stayed quiet and let the two of them talk.
Something tells me that I’ve heard her name before. It sounded a bit familiar but I can’t exactly tell where I heard it and it was slowly starting to bug me. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Darren extended his hands for a shake and she took it with a graceful smile.
"I suppose this is your wife?" She pointed at me while I watched he exchange going on between the two of them in silence. Darren went silent for a while before nodding yes.
"She’s my fiance." He went on to say. "We will be tying the knot very soon to make it official."
"I hope that I’m invited. She’s a very sweet woman." Liana went on to rain praises at me with a big broad smile. "She helped me with my clothes in the bathroom despite not knowing who I was."
Darren was astonished although, he tried his best not to show it. "She did?"
Liana nodded once. "Yes she did." Turning to me, she spoke "Thank You so much for your help again."
"It’s nothing."
"So you’re Liana Diaz?" Darren asked, taking a glass of champagne from the tray presented to them by the waiter.
"Are you surprised?"
"I didn’t think a woman would be in charge of a big business as Diaz Incorporation." He said. "All my efforts to figure out who you are were intercepted effortlessly before I could get the chance to do so."
She chuckled. "My name is Liana Diaz. I prefer using Diaz because it sounded more mysterious and makes a lot of people treat me with respect."
"My brothers decided to take up other business prospects after my father’s death and I was left with the construction company."
"That’s why I studied it in college and that’s the more reason I needed to work with a trusted, liable company, not just any John’s out there."
"You might be delighted to know that your proposal was very much received by your team as well as many others." She conceded.
"It’s good to know that but in regards to your previous statement, I still believe that you’ll be treated with respect regardless of your first or surname."
"And besides, there are good companies scattered across the country. You just need to find the perfect one that ticks all your boxes." Darren said to her and as I watched him speak, I admired the way he spoke with confidence and without the slightest hesitation.
He was really born for this. I would’ve buckled on my knees if I was ever given a job to speak in this manner.
Celyn was the only one amongst the two of us who had that talent.
She had always been a social butterfly, handling our father’s business and the spotlight never fazed her as it did to me.
Now I know why the Alpha King put Darren in charge of his empire. I also wouldn’t think twice about that decision if I were in his father’s shoes.
"In the business world, people consider women to be weak but when you’re a man, the reverse is always the case and about the hotel construction deal, I read your proposal. It is promising."
Wait! Proposal? Is she the client that Darren had told me about? The important one that he wanted to sign a huge business deal with?
The one who is the reason why we’re here in the first place? No wonder she recognized Darren so quickly and no wonder her name sounded familiar.
Now I remember. In my previous life, shortly after Callum and I had gotten married, he had also fought for this so called hotel project.
I remember him coming back from work always upset and agitated that he might not get his hands on it because of someone who was trying to screw him over to get it.
Then, I had overheard him another time mention it to one of his workers during a function that he was willing to do everything to get his hands on it because he was going neck to neck with someone else who wanted it as well.
So that someone whom he loathed so much was his stepbrother, Darren? It was all starting to make complete sense now.
But in my previous life, if I could piece it back together correctly, he had actually gotten the contract eventually.
I know because he came home happy and excited that night. I proposed celebrating the achievement but he told me that he had reserved a work dinner with his team to celebrate.
He told me that he would come back after it was over and that we’d have a small celebration of our own.
I remember burning the midnight oil, making and baking all of his favorite dishes but he never came.
He waltzed into the house the next day smelling like alcohol and lavender perfume which I know now belonged to my stepsister. He was with her that night instead of coming back home to me.
He was celebrating with her after screwing me over. I scoffed at how foolish I must’ve been back then because I actually believed him when he told me that he partied into the night and had maybe come in contact with one of his female workers by accident.
I was a bit restless that he even went as far as having his workers vouch for him that he was indeed with them that night but thinking about it now, he had compelled them to say that to me.
It was all a lie and knowing now that it was, was only making me more mad at the situation back then.
"So, why haven’t you considered us yet?" Darren asked with furrowed brows, jolting me out of my reverie. "Or are we lacking something else?"
"Well, there’s a lot of speculations going around on the internet and I decided lay low to think about it for a while. I value family and friendship in business Darren and your wife just proved that point to me."
He chuckled, squeezing my hand tightly. I had almost forgotten that he has been holding my hand the entire time.
"She did, didn’t she?"
"I want to reconsider the project with your team. I’ll send my secretary over to your company with the further details if that’s okay."
"I’d appreciate that, Miss Diaz, thank you."
"Please just call me Liana. If all goes well, we would be business partners." She insisted while I was struggling to take everything in.
"Alright, Liana." Darren conceded.
She smiled at him "Have a great night Darren and enjoy the party too Kalia." She gave me a hug before walking out of our presence.
Did I just change another aspect of my fate by helping her? Does this mean that I have intentionally screwed Callum over this time?
Just the thought of him losing gave me a certain satisfaction and deep down I hope that it ends up coming true.
Darren and I watched her leave to attend to the other guests. He returned his gaze back to me who was completely nervous and out of my mind.
What could he possibly want now? Was he maybe upset with me? Did I do something wrong? Am I in trouble?
