Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Azure Vaughn’s Transformation

"I have a question for you." Just as I was about to leave, Ivan Underwood spoke again, as if it was something important.

"What question?" I asked, a bit perplexed.

"Do you think I’ll fall in love with Azure Vaughn in the future?" Ivan looked at me with a strange expression, and I felt a chill down my spine. Could he have been reborn as well?

Seeing my astonished look, Ivan reminded me, "Once, when you were drunk and rambling in my car, you told me to give up on Azure and not to compete with Henry Preston. I always felt that it wasn’t just drunken talk."

I was startled. So it turns out it was my own drunken slip, revealing things from my past life.

Quietly breathing a sigh of relief, I then smiled and said, "I was just spouting nonsense. You and Henry grew up together as good friends; how could you both fall for Azure? Given your relationship, even if you both loved the same woman, you’d surely choose friendship, right?"

Bullshit! In the past life, you two almost went mad, like two lions in the animal kingdom battling for the throne.

Ivan smirked slightly, "Maybe."

After saying this, he got into his car and drove away, leaving me bewildered in the parking lot. "Maybe" — what does that mean? Could it be that Ivan already loves Azure and is just trying to restrain himself?

No matter what, that was a fated conflict between the two men. I’m about to divorce Henry Preston and step aside, becoming an easy-going outsider.

But I wonder when Henry’s divorce agreement will be delivered?

I waited for two days in a row without a sign of the divorce papers. I even went to the company but was told Henry hadn’t been there for days, nowhere in sight.

Could he be at the hospital with his future father-in-law? I made a trip to the hospital. After inquiring about Walter Vaughn’s ward, I arrived at the entrance.

Walter was asleep, while Azure was on the phone. Upon seeing me, she softly said to the person on the other end, "I understand. Thank you for my dad’s matter. I’ll find a way to return the forty thousand to you."

Oh, it was Henry.

Since Henry was on the phone, he clearly wasn’t at the hospital. I turned to leave.

"Miss Hathaway!" Azure called out to me, getting up to chase after me.

"Do you need something?" I asked with a feigned smile as she blocked my path.

As she approached, I caught a familiar scent of perfume, one Laura Lawson had brought back.

Sometimes the scent would be on Henry, sometimes in his car. I knew each time I smelled it, it meant they had just parted recently.

I also understood why Azure was willing to use the perfume I had given her — it was a silent provocation.

Azure brushed her hair back behind her ear, her collagen-rich face tinged with a healthy, attractive pink, her beautiful large eyes moist as if shrouded in mist - truly captivating.

"I borrowed forty thousand from Mr. Preston for my dad’s heart surgery, and I feel you should know about it," she looked at me earnestly and said, "I will definitely pay you back."

"He won’t ask for it back." I waved the Lana Marks handbag in my hand, my tone still gentle, "Neither do I. It’s less than the price of a handbag; I’ll consider it an act of charity."

Azure’s expression shifted, her eyes darting to my handbag, with a hint of envy in her gaze.

Her reaction startled me, for she had never shown that look when I subtly showed off before. Back then, she was always beside Joel Sutton, her demeanor filled with the innocence and naivety of a young girl.

However, she quickly recovered her composure, saying with dignity, "Even if it’s just your meal money, I should repay it. A loan is a loan. Miss Hathaway, goodbye."

She then returned to the ward to continue attending to Walter Vaughn.

I looked at her for a few seconds, speechless. Had Henry not told her about our impending divorce?

Henry was soon going to be with her openly. This amount of money was nothing; even if she wanted to repay it, Henry would never take it back.

But that was their business; I couldn’t care less.

After leaving the hospital, I drove to the private detective. He had made a trip to City C and said he had found some leads.

"Here’s her information," the detective handed me some documents and photos. "She has a husband and a son, but their relationship is poor. They’ve been separated for years and are reportedly heading for a divorce."

"Do you have her husband’s contact information?" I looked at the man in the photo, short in stature, with a scarred face, and a cigarette hanging from his lips – clearly not an upstanding person.

"Yes, I approached him, but he’s very unruly. Upon hearing about his wife’s involvement with another man, he didn’t seem to care," the detective said.

It seems both spouses are hard to deal with. Normally, learning about infidelity would lead to anger and an effort to reclaim one’s spouse for a scolding.

I needed a plan to meet that man and let him handle Susan Adler.

After parting ways with the detective, I drove home. My phone buzzed with several messages; I glanced at them — they were WeChat messages from Crystal Dawson.

I pulled over to check her messages: The vixen has finally been exposed by me! She wasn’t pregnant at all!

Then came several images showing Susan’s personal and marital information, along with a medical report.

The report clearly indicated that Susan Adler was not pregnant. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Excitedly, I immediately called Crystal Dawson, "Crystal, you are amazing! How did you get it?"

"That vixen was not just stringing your dad along; she had memberships on various dating websites. I also set up an account, pretending to be a successful widower, and she took the bait." Crystal was extremely proud; it was a brilliant tactic!

"Why did she so easily believe you?" I was astonished.

"Such women love money. I just flaunted wealth, sent her several large red envelopes as soon as we exchanged contacts, and she called me ’dear honey.’ Ugh, I almost threw up," Crystal’s tone full of disdain, "I feel like my phone isn’t clean anymore."

Her words made me laugh, and I generously promised, "You’ve been a tremendous help. Pick any phone you want; it’s on me!"

Upon hearing this, Crystal immediately said, "I’m going to pick one," and hung up the call.

I initially planned to head home, but with this outcome, I returned to the hospital to share the news with my mom.

As you can imagine, my mom was thrilled. Her shaky trust in my dad was slightly restored, "That woman is definitely deliberately messing with your dad, but I won’t be fooled!"

"Exactly, my dad isn’t that kind of person." I was also in a good mood. Confirming Susan Adler wasn’t pregnant significantly weakened her audacious posture.
