After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 39: Bring Mom Back Safely
"You should have stayed away from that woman in the first place," Shane Lockwood said.
"Dad, how could you say that!" Emmett Lockwood’s eyes immediately turned red, his little chest heaving with anger.
"I’m doing this for your own good." Shane Lockwood looked at his son. "You’re coming back with me now."
Emmett Lockwood’s expression changed instantly. He turned and ran back into the living room.
Shane Lockwood furrowed his brow. Just as he was about to follow, his phone suddenly rang.
It was a very important overseas call.
Shane Lockwood went to the study to take the call first.
An hour had passed by the time the call ended.
When Shane Lockwood came out of the study, he heard the sound of something shattering in the living room, followed by Minnie’s startled cry.
"Young Master!"
Shane Lockwood’s face darkened, and he quickly wheeled himself into the living room.
In that short time, the living room had been trashed. It looked worse than if it had been ransacked by burglars.
Shane Lockwood’s expression turned grim. "Emmett Lockwood!"
Emmett Lockwood trembled with fear. Seeing Shane Lockwood maneuvering his wheelchair to chase him, he immediately started running through the chaotic mess of the living room.
The living room was a disaster, littered with shattered decorations. Emmett paid no attention to where he was stepping, making for a heart-stopping sight.
Minnie cried out in alarm, "Young Master, slow down!"
Emmett Lockwood didn’t listen at all. He rushed out of the living room and deftly scrambled up the rockery.
"Emmett Lockwood, get down from there!"
"I won’t!" Emmett Lockwood’s eyes were red-rimmed, and two streams of tears ran down his pale, tender face. His small body trembled as he cried, a heart-wrenching sight atop the tall rockery.
"Young Master, please come down! It’s too dangerous up there. Please be good."
"No! I won’t!"
Emmett Lockwood was resolute. "I want to see Mom! If I can’t see her today, I might as well just fall and die! I’m just an extra in this family anyway, an eyesore."
As he spoke, Emmett Lockwood’s body swayed, and he nearly fell.
"AH!"
Minnie screamed in terror. She looked at Shane Lockwood desperately. "First Young Master, please ask the Mistress to come back! If this goes on, something will really happen to the Young Master!"
Shane Lockwood took a deep breath and softened his tone. "I’ll call her right now and tell her to come back."
Emmett Lockwood looked at Shane Lockwood with suspicion.
’Dad’s attitude toward Mom is awful.’
Shane Lockwood ignored Emmett Lockwood and took out his phone to dial Eliza Sutton’s number.
BEEP BEEP BEEP—
The phone rang and rang, but no one answered.
After the call disconnected, Shane Lockwood tried again. This time, the call was immediately rejected.
Shane Lockwood’s brows furrowed into a knot.
’This Eliza Sutton... she’s got some nerve, daring to hang up on me.’
Emmett Lockwood had been watching eagerly from the rockery. When he saw that the call wasn’t going through, tears started falling again. "I know it! I know you’re the one who drove Mom away! I don’t have a dad like you! You’re the worst!"
Shane Lockwood tried calling one more time.
"We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off..."
Shane Lockwood took another deep breath. He looked at his wailing son on the rockery and said in a low voice, "Emmett Lockwood, I suggest you settle down. Eliza Sutton might be in trouble!"
"What? Mom’s in trouble?" Emmett Lockwood was shocked. Forgetting his tantrum, he allowed a servant, who had snuck up the rockery, to carry him down.
The moment his feet touched the ground, Emmett Lockwood ran to Shane Lockwood as fast as he could, urging him, "Didn’t you say Mom’s in trouble? Go save her!"
Shane Lockwood looked at Emmett Lockwood. "Are you sure you want to ask me, your ’worst’ dad?"
"Dad, I know I was wrong. I’ll never do this again." Emmett Lockwood grabbed Shane Lockwood’s sleeve and shook it vigorously. "Dad, I’m begging you. I promise I’ll be good from now on. Please, save Mom! I’m worried about her!"
Shane Lockwood watched Emmett Lockwood’s anxious expression, his brow furrowed, but he didn’t say anything.
He made a call. "Find Eliza Sutton’s whereabouts." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Fifteen minutes later, Erik Irvine called back.
"The Mistress has been kidnapped. We’re currently tracking down the kidnappers."
"As fast as you can." Shane Lockwood paused. "And check on the second branch’s movements."
Erik Irvine was startled. "You suspect the second branch... Yes, I’ll look into it right away."
Shane Lockwood ended the call and wheeled himself toward the exit.
"Dad!"
Emmett Lockwood called out to Shane Lockwood, "You have to bring Mom back safely."
Shane Lockwood looked back and saw Emmett Lockwood’s small face filled with unease and worry.
"Take care of yourself and your grandmother."
After saying this, Shane Lockwood quickly left.
...
「On a desolate mountain in the suburbs.」
A minivan was parked on the mountaintop.
Two kidnappers who had been waiting for a while immediately stood up and walked over.
"What took you so long? I’ve had the pit dug for ages."
"This woman’s a sly one."
As he spoke, the man with the limp and his companion dragged Eliza Sutton out of the vehicle.
The mountain air was cool, and the breeze quickly woke Eliza Sutton.
She moved her wrists and found they were bound so tightly she couldn’t break free at all.
"Who are you? What do you want? Kidnapping is illegal!"
Eliza Sutton struggled, her face filled with terror.
Hearing her words, the man with the limp chuckled. "Kidnapping is illegal, huh? What about murder? We’re in the business of more than just kidnapping!"
Eliza Sutton’s expression grew even more fearful, but she forced herself to remain calm. "Gentlemen, we have no grudge against each other. There’s no need to commit such a huge crime for money. Life on the run is hard.
"How about this? I’ll give you double the money to let me go."
"Double?" The man with the limp sized up Eliza Sutton. "That’s two million. Are you sure you have that kind of money?"
’Two million?’
’Not many people want me dead, and even fewer would be willing to pay one million for it.’
"Yes, of course I do. If you don’t believe me, I can show you my bank balance." Eliza Sutton put on a terrified act, looking just like a helpless woman willing to give up anything to survive.
"Don’t listen to her nonsense. Be careful she doesn’t pull a fast one," a tall man warned.
Eliza Sutton immediately retorted, "What kind of fast one could I pull? There are so many of you and only one of me. We’re in the middle of nowhere. Do you really think I can run? Besides, I’m really rich. Since you’re already doing the job, don’t you want to earn a little extra?"
Eliza Sutton’s words struck a chord with them.
The man with the limp said, "Boss, why don’t we take a look? It’s just a glance. If she’s lying, it won’t be too late to kill her and bury her then."
Eliza Sutton could tell the man with the limp was tempted and quickly added, "Exactly. My phone is in your hands. You just have to turn it on and look. It won’t take more than five minutes."
"Boss, why don’t we just take a look? It won’t hurt anything."
Seeing that his brothers were all tempted, the tall man relented. He handed the phone to the man with the limp. "Make it quick. We can’t afford any mistakes, or we’re all done for."
The man with the limp nodded repeatedly.
He walked toward Eliza Sutton, phone in hand.
Just then, a mountain breeze stirred, lifting strands of her hair and making her appear even more beautiful.
The man with the limp was suddenly filled with lust and instinctively reached out to touch Eliza Sutton’s face.
