After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 30: The Truth
When the security guards entered and saw Shane Lockwood was present, they froze, not daring to make a move.
Seeing this, Brenda Preston’s expression darkened. She snapped, "What are you all standing around for? Are you waiting for President Lockwood to give you a personal invitation?"
Seeing that Shane Lockwood hadn’t spoken, the guards cautiously approached Eliza Sutton.
Erik Irvine saw what was happening and couldn’t help but whisper, "President Lockwood."
Shane Lockwood raised his eyes. Just as he was about to speak, he saw Eliza Sutton get to her feet.
Seeing Eliza Sutton move, the guards tensed up. "What are you doing?"
"What needs to be done." Eliza Sutton sidestepped the guards and strode up to the head of security. "May I use your computer?"
"What for? I just tried recovering the footage. It’s impossible to restore. Don’t waste your time."
"You?" The head of security eyed Eliza Sutton doubtfully. "That surveillance footage was completely deleted. I tried several methods and couldn’t recover it. You’d just be wasting your energy."
"Thank you for the warning, but I’d still like to try." Eliza Sutton took the laptop from the head of security, gave her a small smile, and her fingers began to fly across the keyboard.
The conference room was instantly filled with the CLACK-CLACK-CLACK of the keyboard.
’Still putting on an act at a time like this.’
’She won’t admit defeat until the bitter end.’
Reina Miles sneered inwardly. She stood up and declared righteously, "I know that with her scheme exposed, Eliza Sutton must be feeling quite upset. She’s just making a last-ditch effort. But I must remind you, Eliza: your only way out is to admit your mistake and show some sincere remorse."
Erik Irvine was also getting anxious and whispered, "President Lockwood, should we intervene?"
Erik Irvine looked down on Eliza Sutton. To put it bluntly, even if Shane Lockwood had suddenly felt an urge for a casual fling, Erik would never have set him up with someone like Eliza. Her status was simply too low.
But regardless, she was now Madam Lockwood. If she were really thrown out on accusations of plagiarism, President Lockwood would be utterly humiliated. Worse, the second branch of the family could use it as ammunition against him.
’If he can’t even control his own wife, how can he manage The Lockwood Group?’
"Let’s see what Eliza Sutton is up to first," Shane Lockwood said, his tone calm and completely unconcerned.
Reina Miles, however, couldn’t resist pressing. "Manager Preston, everything is already crystal clear. When will I get my justice?"
She added, "If our design department can’t even guarantee the most basic fairness and justice, then I must say I’m very disappointed. I’m sure my colleagues feel the same."
No one from the design department spoke.
’Of course not. Who would dare stick their neck out in front of Shane Lockwood? You’d have to be tired of having a job.’
Brenda Preston stood up and faced Shane Lockwood. "President Lockwood, this matter has dragged on for quite some time. Shouldn’t we announce the resolution?"
Shane Lockwood said coolly, "And what resolution do you think should be announced?"
"That Eliza Sutton plagiarized Designer Miles, of course," Brenda Preston said, as if it were self-evident. "Eliza Sutton is a criminal with nothing more than a high school diploma. How could she possibly know how to create a design draft? She was undoubtedly afraid of failing her task and being humiliated, so she seized the chance to secretly photograph Designer Miles’s design..."
Shane Lockwood cut Brenda Preston off, his voice laced with impatience. "Didn’t Eliza Sutton just offer other evidence?"
Reina Miles chimed in, "Eliza Sutton claimed she finished the design at home and that her family saw her working on it." She laughed, her eyes filled with derision. "How can a family member’s testimony be valid? By that logic, I could just get my family to testify for me!"
Upon hearing Reina’s words, the color drained from Brenda Preston’s face. Others might not know who Eliza Sutton meant by "family," but Brenda knew perfectly well.
Shane Lockwood.
’That meant Shane Lockwood had seen Eliza Sutton working on the design.’
Reina, still oblivious, continued to mock her. "We should have made her call her ’witness’ over. I’d love to see what kind of person would act as an accomplice for a criminal like Eliza Sutton..."
"Reina Miles!" Brenda Preston’s face went cold as she cut her off. "What are you babbling about?"
Reina Miles froze, stunned that Brenda Preston would reprimand her. Then, she mistakenly thought she understood. "You’re right, I was being inconsiderate. The family of a criminal like that is probably just another lowlife. Of course they aren’t worthy of setting foot inside The Lockwood Group."
"Shut your mouth!" Brenda Preston shrieked. She turned to Shane Lockwood in a fluster. "Shane... President Lockwood, I’m to blame for this. I failed to manage my people properly. How about this? Since no serious harm was done, let’s just let the matter drop..."
Before Shane Lockwood could reply, Reina Miles shrieked, "How can we possibly do that? She plagiarized my design! This must be cleared up!"
"I agree with Designer Miles. The issue of plagiarism absolutely must be clarified," Eliza Sutton said, connecting the laptop to the projector. "Fortunately, I was successful. The surveillance video is restored. Now, everyone can see for themselves what really happened."
A surveillance video began playing on the projector screen.
In the video, Eliza Sutton was being pestered by a young woman covered head-to-toe in luxury brands. The folder she was holding fell, scattering the design drafts inside all over the floor.
The Lockwood Group’s security cameras were high-definition, clearly capturing the design draft on the floor. A moment later, another person approached.
She could be seen picking up the draft and studying it for a moment. Then, she furtively photographed it with her phone. Once she was done, she placed it back on the ground.
Then, she hurried away. As she turned to leave, her face came into full view on the screen—it was unmistakably Reina Miles.
The conference room exploded into an uproar as everyone started whispering to one another.
"So Designer Miles really did steal Eliza Sutton’s work."
"That can’t be right. Designer Miles is very talented; she shouldn’t need to steal."
Crystal Harrison timidly added, "Designer Miles is very talented, but her work is nowhere near the level of this design by Eliza Sutton."
The others agreed.
Forget Reina Miles; even Dulcie Vaughn’s work looked amateurish next to this design by Eliza Sutton.
Simply put, Eliza’s work was in a league of its own compared to theirs.
"But no matter what, you can’t just pass off someone else’s work as your own. That’s just awful."
Reina Miles completely lost her composure. She never imagined that Eliza Sutton would actually be able to recover a video that had been permanently deleted.
Hearing the murmurs from the crowd, Reina Miles shot to her feet. "It’s not what it looks like! It’s... It’s... Eliza Sutton is so capable, she could have easily faked this video to frame me! Yes, that’s it! Manager Preston, you have to believe me! You know all about this!"
