Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Blacklist

"Shut up! What was I supposed to know? How would I know you were going to pull a disgusting stunt like this to frame a colleague!" Brenda Preston said with utter disgust.

’What an idiot. I already warned her, but she just wouldn’t let it go. And now, the video’s been restored!’

’Reina Miles is completely finished!’

"Manager Preston..." Reina Miles stared, stunned by Brenda Preston’s harsh words and severe expression. She had never seen her like this. She wanted to say more but was stopped by a look that could kill.

"You’re fired!" Brenda Preston announced, her face cold. She then looked at Shane Lockwood. "Shane, what do you think?"

"This is the office."

Hearing Shane Lockwood’s impersonal words, the expression on Brenda Preston’s face stiffened. She quickly corrected herself, calling him President Lockwood. "What do you think of my decision?"

"What do you think?" Shane Lockwood asked faintly.

"I... I think..." Seeing everyone looking at her, Brenda Preston gritted her teeth and said, "We should report Reina Miles’s actions and let the entire industry know what she’s done."

Reina Miles’s entire body went limp, and she collapsed to the floor like a pile of mud.

"Hurry up and drag her out of here."

Hearing Brenda Preston, the security guards walked over without a word, grabbed Reina Miles by the arms, and began to drag her away.

"President Lockwood, I was wrong! I was really wrong! Please give me another chance!" Reina Miles screamed and shouted as she was dragged away.

Brenda Preston let out a long sigh of relief and said softly, "It’s all my fault for being so incompetent, bothering you with such a small matter."

Shane Lockwood glanced at Brenda Preston and said flatly, "In its hundred-year history, this is the first time such a malicious plagiarism incident has occurred at the Lockwood Group. You are indeed incompetent."

The expression on Brenda Preston’s face froze instantly. She felt utterly humiliated. But she wouldn’t blame Shane Lockwood; instead, she felt it was all Eliza Sutton’s fault.

As if oblivious to Brenda Preston’s humiliation, Shane Lockwood lifted his chin. "Continue the evaluation."

Brenda Preston agreed and had Dulcie Vaughn continue presenting the remaining designs.

Group A’s designs weren’t bad—they were even a cut above Group B’s—but they couldn’t compare to Dulcie Vaughn’s, let alone Eliza Sutton’s.

With a stiff face, Brenda Preston announced, "The winner is Eliza Sutton. Group B is victorious."

"Oh yeah! This is great!"

"We won! We won!"

The members of Group B were ecstatic.

Crystal Harrison even hugged Eliza Sutton and shouted, "Eliza Sutton, you’re our hero! Our team only won because of you! You’re amazing!"

Seeing this, the others also joined in, hugging Eliza Sutton.

Eliza Sutton hadn’t experienced this kind of passionate emotion in a long time. Her body stiffened for a moment, but when she saw the smiles on their faces, she relaxed slightly.

"This was a group effort." After a pause, Eliza Sutton added, "I’ll treat everyone to dinner tonight."

"No need," Dulcie Vaughn said immediately. "Manager Preston will cover the celebration expenses. It’s a tradition in our Design Department."

Seeing everyone turn to look at her in unison, Brenda Preston forced a smile and nodded. "Go ahead, have fun, eat whatever you want. It’s on me."

’Although Brenda was smiling, on the inside she felt sick. Her hatred for Eliza Sutton intensified. If Eliza had just obediently admitted to plagiarism and gotten the hell out of the Design Department, I wouldn’t have been blamed by Shane, would I?’

Eliza Sutton noticed Brenda Preston’s venomous gaze, and the smile on her face faded slightly.

Just then, Reina Miles came back, crying and wailing. When she saw Brenda Preston, she threw herself down in front of her as if she were her savior.

"Manager, you have to save me! I can’t be kicked out! My entire future will be ruined!"

Brenda Preston was already annoyed just seeing Reina Miles. She snapped, "The decision to remove you from the Design Department and report you to the entire industry was made by Shane. Do you think I can go against Shane’s decision?"

"Then what am I supposed to do?" Reina Miles was in a complete panic.

’Getting fired from the Lockwood Design Department was bad enough, let alone being blacklisted by the entire industry. I’d have no future at all!’

"How should I know what you’re supposed to do? Fine. Since you’ve been fired, don’t linger in the Design Department. If Shane finds out, he’ll just say I’m incompetent again."

Seeing that Brenda Preston couldn’t care less if she lived or died, Reina Miles panicked and blurted out, "Manager, I only did this because you approved—"

"Designer Miles!"

Mr. Walker quickly cut her off. "I know you’re anxious, but you need to calm down. You can’t just spout nonsense!"

The look on Reina Miles’s face froze; she had clearly remembered what Brenda Preston was capable of.

Mr. Walker seized the opportunity to drag her out.

Brenda Preston flicked a nonexistent speck of dust from her sleeve and said in disgust, "Idiot!"

...

"That little bitch!"

Amelia Sutton couldn’t stop herself from throwing a fit after returning to the Sutton residence.

"Amelia, what’s wrong?" Mae Sheffield came downstairs when she heard the noise.

This was the first time she had come downstairs in days.

The other day, after Harrison Sutton bailed her out of jail, he had beaten her without mercy. She had been hiding in her room for the past two days, recovering.

"Mom!" Amelia Sutton threw herself into Mae Sheffield’s arms and began to wail.

A frightened Mae Sheffield quickly asked what was wrong, and finally understood what had happened from Amelia Sutton’s story.

It turned out that Amelia Sutton, furious that Eliza Sutton had ruined her reputation, had gone to the Lockwood Group to confront her, only to have Eliza call security and have her thrown out.

Amelia Sutton cried, "Mom, I’ve never been so humiliated!"

Mae Sheffield’s heart ached for her. Just as she was about to say something, the front door was thrown open.

Harrison Sutton stormed in, radiating fury.

Mae Sheffield’s heart skipped a beat. She cautiously approached him. "Harrison, you’re home. Are you hungry? I can have the kitchen make you a bowl of noodles, how about that?"

Harrison Sutton shoved Mae Sheffield aside, walked up to Amelia Sutton, and roared, "Amelia Sutton, who told you to go cause trouble at the Lockwood Group! Do you think the Suttons aren’t in enough chaos already?"

"I... I didn’t cause trouble at the Lockwood Group. I went to find Eliza Sutton." Amelia Sutton grew even more furious. "Did that little bitch Eliza Sutton call you to tattle on me? I knew it! That damn whore is so vile, she only knows how to pull these kinds of tricks!"

"Shut your mouth!" Harrison Sutton thundered. "Look at yourself! Spouting words like ’bitch’—do you have any semblance of a proper lady left in you?"

Amelia Sutton had already failed to get the upper hand with Eliza Sutton and was feeling miserable about it. Now, being blamed by Harrison Sutton on top of it all was more than she could bear.

She shrieked, "I knew it! Now that you see Eliza Sutton is Madam Lockwood, you’re shamelessly trying to suck up to her!"

Harrison Sutton, a man with immense pride, couldn’t tolerate Amelia Sutton’s words. His patience snapping, he raised his hand and swung a slap at her.

"Amelia!"

Mae Sheffield rushed forward and shielded Amelia Sutton.

Harrison Sutton’s slap landed squarely on her face.

Mae Sheffield collapsed to the ground. The cheek that had still been healing now burned with a fiery pain. Her ears were ringing, and her mind went blank.
