Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The One She Offended Is My Wife

The girl’s expression changed abruptly. Her voice was sharp. "Who are you? Who said you could touch me with your filthy hands!"

Eliza Sutton answered earnestly, "I am Eliza Sutton, Shane Lockwood’s wife. By rights, you should address me as Madam Lockwood."

"Madam Lockwood?" The girl clearly knew of Eliza Sutton’s origins, and her expression turned disdainful. "Just the daughter of some petty criminal. You’re not even fit to shine our shoes. I can’t imagine how you got into The Imperial Feast, let alone how you wormed your way into a VIP room!"

Eliza Sutton glanced at Shane Lockwood. He sat in his wheelchair with a placid expression, as if he hadn’t heard a thing.

’Alright then.’

She understood. He was leaving it for her to handle.

Eliza Sutton said with a beaming smile, "My status alone certainly isn’t enough to get me into The Imperial Feast, but I married well. My husband is qualified. Isn’t that right, husband?"

Eliza Sutton’s voice was so saccharine it was practically dripping, and Shane Lockwood couldn’t help but turn to look at her.

Eliza Sutton blinked, feigning a pout. "Husband, am I right?"

"You are." Shane Lockwood’s expression was impassive.

Satisfied, Eliza Sutton turned back to the girl.

"Miss, are there any more problems? Or... do you think that now that my husband is a cripple, he no longer has the right to bring his wife to The Imperial Feast?"

Eliza Sutton was smiling as she said this, but it made everyone in the room gasp.

Yes.

Shane Lockwood was a cripple.

Not only were his legs disabled, but rumor had it he couldn’t perform *that* particular function either. Yet, no one present would have dared to say it out loud, even if they had the nerve of a lion.

And yet, Eliza Sutton had just said it so brazenly.

Even Walter Ellington, who had always disdained this woman, couldn’t help but look at this brave warrior, Eliza Sutton.

As if completely unaware she had said anything outrageous, Eliza Sutton waited with a beaming smile for the girl’s reply.

"That’s not what I meant! Stop trying to pin this on me!" the girl said, suddenly frantic and trying desperately to explain.

"Sherry, come back here," the portly man hastily called the girl back.

The girl called Sherry could only suppress her indignation and return, gritting her teeth.

The portly man bowed and scraped, his face a mask of apology. "Madam Lockwood, I’m so sorry. I have failed to raise my daughter properly. Please forgive her foolishness."

"It’s a small matter. I just hope you’ll pay more attention to your daughter. At the very least, you should find a good traditional Chinese doctor to get her body in order. She can’t always have such weak legs, don’t you think?"

The portly man looked grateful. "Thank you for the reminder, Madam Lockwood. I’ll be sure to find a good traditional Chinese doctor for Sherry tomorrow to get her treated."

Eliza Sutton smiled and said no more.

After that, no one dwelled on the matter. It was like an insignificant little interlude, quickly ignored by everyone.

Walter Ellington, however, watched Eliza Sutton with a scrutinizing gaze. He leaned in and whispered to Shane Lockwood, "Lockwood, this good-luck bride of yours seems to be something else."

"Is that so?" Shane Lockwood’s expression remained indifferent.

"Yes. An ordinary woman wouldn’t be so bold."

Shane Lockwood quite agreed. ’Indeed, an ordinary woman wouldn’t dare send her own stepmother to prison.’

Everyone soon took their seats. With toasts and the clinking of glasses, the atmosphere warmed up, becoming as intimate as if they were all long-lost brothers reuniting.

Sherry was unwilling to let the opportunity pass. She knew she had been chosen by the portly man and presented to Shane Lockwood only after trying her absolute best to stand out. She suddenly stood up, holding a glass of wine.

All eyes focused on her.

Sherry lifted her chin, revealing her delicate features. "I often hear my godfather say how much the Lockwood Group has helped our family, and that if I ever met President Lockwood, I should be grateful and seek to repay the kindness. I’m lucky enough to have truly met you, President Lockwood, so I’d like to propose a toast to you. I hope you can give me a chance to repay you."

The girl stood there, looking as fresh and lovely as a delicate flower. Any man would find it difficult to refuse such a girl who spoke repeatedly of "repaying" him.

Shane Lockwood’s gaze fell on Sherry’s face, lingering there for a long time.

The people present gradually quieted down. Some were already giving the portly man a thumbs-up.

Others were deeply annoyed with themselves. How could they have given up on sending women just because they heard Shane Lockwood wasn’t quite... capable anymore?

You don’t necessarily have to sleep with a woman; it’s nice just to have some eye candy around. Besides, there are plenty of ways for a man to toy with a woman.

Just then, Shane Lockwood suddenly spoke. "Mrs. Lockwood, what do you say?"

"Huh?" Eliza Sutton was thoroughly enjoying the drama, not expecting the spotlight to suddenly turn on her. She laughed. "I think it’s a great idea."

Sherry’s face lit up with joy. She even found Eliza Sutton a little more agreeable now. ’I didn’t expect this criminal’s daughter to be so broad-minded.’

"Hmm?" A questioning hum came from Shane Lockwood, the sound rising slightly and carrying an indescribable sexiness.

But Eliza Sutton heard the chill beneath it. She immediately said, "Mr. Lockwood’s health is poor, and I have no desire to be a widow. Therefore, I’ll drink his wine for him."

Without even raising an eyebrow, Eliza Sutton finished the wine. Her gaze swept across the room, a smile playing on her lips. "Is there anyone else who wants to toast my husband?"

"N-No one."

"Haha, we invited President Lockwood here today just to catch up. The drinking is secondary."

Eliza Sutton had already said she didn’t want to be a widow, and besides, who in Seabourne didn’t know about Shane Lockwood’s physical condition?

He had woken up, but his body was ruined.

"I knew everyone here was reasonable. On behalf of my husband, I thank you all." As she spoke, Eliza Sutton poured another glass of wine and downed it in one go.

Eliza Sutton’s words were a mix of soft and hard, and even those who initially felt some dissatisfaction found it dissipating.

Sherry was not one for deep scheming. Seeing this, her face twisted. Unwilling to back down just like that, she called out in a coquettish voice, "President Lockwood..."

"Miss Sherry." Shane Lockwood’s voice was very slow, with a strange, lingering tenderness.

Sherry’s expression turned to one of pleasant surprise. ’I knew it! I’m so beautiful, President Lockwood can’t bear to let me go.’

Just as she was about to speak, she heard Shane Lockwood say, "Are you just going to leave after insulting my wife?"

The turn of events was so abrupt that Sherry was stunned, unable to react for a moment.

Beside them, Walter Ellington helpfully elaborated, "You just called his wife a criminal’s daughter. And said she wasn’t fit to shine your shoes. They say a husband and wife are one. By saying that, weren’t you implying that Lockwood isn’t fit to shine your shoes either?"

As soon as Walter Ellington finished speaking, Shane Lockwood’s expression darkened even further.

The portly man, who had been proud that the woman he’d brought had caught Shane Lockwood’s eye, went pale. In an instant, his back was soaked with cold sweat.

The next second, with an agility that belied his size, he lunged forward, slapped Sherry across the face, and cursed, "You worthless piece of trash! You think a whore like you is even worthy of being compared to Madam Lockwood?"

The immense force of the blow sent Sherry sprawling to the floor. Her beautiful, flower-like face was marred by a fiery red handprint, and she was too terrified to even cry.

But the portly man paid her no mind. He walked over to Shane Lockwood and bowed deeply. "This whole affair is my fault for being careless. Please, President Lockwood, don’t hold it against me."

Shane Lockwood said nonchalantly, "The one she offended was my wife."
