Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Daniel Hale’s Superpower

The more Daniel Hale walked, the more he felt something was wrong.

This uneasy feeling had started last night.

It was as if some ethereal shadows had appeared in his mind.

Especially after waking up this morning, he almost thought he was hallucinating.

He could sense the two tiny figures in Vera Coleman’s belly beside him.

He could sense people pacing back and forth in the hallway outside the door.

And even the bustling crowd upstairs...

And now, it felt as though he could see figures constantly coming and going outside the shelter.

"Am I really just too tired?"

Daniel Hale muttered to himself.

But the next second, he sensed something was truly wrong.

He walked quickly in one direction, toward the shelter’s exit.

"Uncle Hale? Why are you out here?"

Chelsea Walsh was helping her brother, Forrest Walsh, walk back and forth to aid his recovery.

Forrest Walsh wanted to see the team members preparing to go out, so she had helped him come outside.

"I came out for some fresh air."

Daniel Hale didn’t know how to explain.

He had come out because he seemed to have just sensed danger.

The danger wasn’t coming from in front of him, but from his right rear.

"Something seems off about Uncle Hale. Let’s go check on him."

Forrest Walsh noticed that Daniel Hale was walking intently in one direction.

"Can you two feel it?"

Daniel Hale suddenly turned his head to look at the two siblings following him from a distance.

"Uncle Hale, you knew we were behind you."

Chelsea Walsh jumped in surprise.

’She thought Daniel Hale hadn’t noticed them.’

"Yes, I just found it strange myself."

Daniel Hale muttered.

"Uncle Hale, what exactly are you sensing?"

Forrest Walsh followed Daniel Hale’s line of sight.

Over there was the protective wall the shelter had built a few days ago. It looked like nothing was there.

But Daniel Hale just kept staring blankly at it.

"It’s dangerous. We need to get out of here, now!"

Daniel Hale watched for another moment, then subconsciously pulled the two of them to leave.

"Uncle Hale, are you sure you’ve had enough rest?"

Chelsea Walsh was a little worried.

’It’s just a wall. What danger could there be?’ 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

’Besides, this is inside the shelter, and the roads outside have layers of checkpoints.’

Daniel Hale froze.

Chelsea Walsh’s words made him uncertain again.

After all, he had just been acting on his feelings.

"I don’t think it’s because he’s not well-rested."

A strange voice spoke. The group looked over and saw four strangers.

The fat man walked up to Daniel Hale and examined him closely.

"Are you also a Spiritual Element Superpower User?"

Evan Crawford asked uncertainly.

Just now, Gabriel Leighton had said there was danger nearby, so the other three had brought him out to take a look.

They happened to see Daniel Hale also looking in the same direction.

"What did you say?"

Daniel Hale didn’t quite understand.

’It did seem like he had heard of this kind of Superpower somewhere before.’

"I’m a Spiritual Element Superpower User. There might be zombies coming from that direction. Do you know where the shelter’s administration office is?"

A tall, middle-aged man asked, his expression anxious.

"You’re saying zombies are coming? Follow me!"

The moment Daniel Hale heard zombies were coming, he couldn’t be bothered with anything else. He grabbed the man and ran inside...

Nina Jacobs had planned to head back with the other three.

They had already killed most of the zombies wandering in the area.

Her daily mission was also complete.

Just then, a military vehicle came speeding over from the distance.

"Is that a vehicle from Rescue Team 2?"

Chester Pearson watched the vehicle, feeling that its speed was a bit off.

Nina Jacobs’s brow furrowed, and then her expression changed abruptly.

"Get back inside the checkpoint! The car is being followed by a horde of zombies!"

Their car was parked inside the checkpoint.

And this checkpoint was a heavy metal gate.

Each checkpoint was manned by guards.

Not only could the metal gate be closed remotely, but the guards on duty could also shut it if they spotted an emergency.

Once inside the checkpoint, they would be much safer.

"What did you say?!"

Chester Pearson also noticed the driver of the vehicle waving his arms and shouting something at them.

It was the military hand signal for retreat.

’Didn’t Team 2 just leave a short while ago? How did they attract so many zombies back here?’

But he didn’t dare to linger, limping his way toward the checkpoint.

After receiving Nina Jacobs’s order, Wayne Warner scooped Chester Pearson up with one arm.

He was walking way too slowly.

"...Thanks a lot, buddy."

Chester Pearson felt miserable, but this clearly wasn’t the time to struggle.

Because now, even he could hear the roars of the zombies behind them.

Team 2’s vehicle burst through, and the metal gate slammed shut with a BANG.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

ROAR!

The zombies close behind crashed into the metal gate, pounding on it loudly.

"Captain Phelps, what happened?"

Warren Dempsey, the guard on duty, asked.

They had just been watching Nina Jacobs and her team of four kill zombies from a distance. They didn’t expect the zombies to show up so suddenly.

"We ran into a ton of zombies as soon as we went out. We couldn’t kill them all!"

The leader of Team 2 was named Patrick Phelps.

When he saw how bad the situation was, he immediately ordered everyone to retreat. They hadn’t even started their mission yet.

"This is bad! The shelter is also under a surprise zombie attack!"

Another team member, responsible for communicating with the shelter, ran out and reported.

"What?!"

Chester Pearson was utterly astonished. ’How is that possible?!’

Nina Jacobs didn’t linger for another second, driving straight for the shelter.

Although she knew the shelter wasn’t absolutely safe, she couldn’t help but feel her heart race with anxiety.

So did Leo Hale, who was extremely worried about the safety of Vera Coleman and Daniel Hale.

When Nina Jacobs rushed back, Sherry Renner was still comforting Vera Coleman.

"...So, my reading tells me, Ms. Coleman, your daughter Nina Jacobs will absolutely not face any danger."

"What about Leo Hale? That boy Leo Hale? The two of them went out together."

Vera Coleman asked urgently.

"Mom, we’re back."

Nina Jacobs pushed the door open and entered. Both women sighed in relief at the same time.

"See, what did I tell you? As long as you don’t step out this door, your daughter is guaranteed to come back safe and sound."

When Sherry Renner heard the commotion in the shelter, she had been drawing talismans.

Seeing Vera Coleman about to go outside, she had immediately stopped her.

"Thank you. But what you said before actually came true."

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected Sherry Renner’s divination to be proven right so quickly.

"Even so, I’m not happy about it at all."

Besides predicting that something would happen to the shelter, Sherry Renner also discovered that the omen was one of great misfortune.

She would rather her divination had been wrong. "I’m afraid many lives will be lost."

"Right? No wonder I’ve been feeling so uneasy. Why didn’t Leo Hale come back with you?"

Vera Coleman asked.

"He went to find Uncle Hale. But..."

Nina Jacobs felt a persistent unease.

She had given Daniel Hale a First Superpower Card and had chosen the Spiritual Element Superpower for him.

That meant Daniel Hale should have been able to sense this danger.

’Given his personality, if he rushes to the front line...’

"I’m going to go check. Sherry, you stay with my mom. We’ll use this to stay in touch."

Nina Jacobs placed a walkie-talkie in Sherry Renner’s hand.

"Okay, you go. I promise I’ll look after Auntie."

Sherry Renner nodded.

What she didn’t say was that this omen of great misfortune seemed to hold a faint silver lining.

’What if Nina Jacobs is that silver lining?’
