Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 183: The Colosseum (1)
Violet and her friends followed behind the elf, who’s name they now knew to be Isabella. She had vivid green hair that extended down to the small of her back, put together in a simple and practical braid. She worse simple but comfortable clothing, consisting of a green tunic and brown pants.
She looked distinctly ’normal’ yet based on how she carried herself, Violet quickly realised that this woman was not simple. She gave off a similar feeling as Ivy did, just to a lesser extent than the Dryad.
Violet was unable to tell exactly how strong she was, the sheer number of people crowded so close together hampering her ability to utilise her presence subtly, she was unwilling to simply blanket her presence out at full strength either, she pretty sure a lot of people would not be happy with her if she did that!
Still the party followed behind Isabella as she led them away from the main enterance and around the side of the grand building. Soon they left the main crowd behind, a secondary entrance could now be seen not too far away. The people entering from this spot looking distinctly different from the general populace at the main gates.
Here the people entering were most definitely warriors, fighters and mages of all kinds, from a skinny elf in flowing robes, to a stocky dwarf in full plate. Some arrived in their own and some arrived as part of a group.
Violet noted that the groups appeared to have a guide of sorts, like Isabella was for them that would talk with the guards at the gate and then show them in. She guessed that these were the people that brought along the fighters.
"So how does this work exactly? Is it individual fights? Group battles or something else? And will their be fighters in the fourth tier for us to battle?" Luna asked their guide.
"Well it depends on what event you want to participate in really, you can fight individually or as part of a group. And you don’t have to worry about that, their are plenty of Lords that participate in the colosseum, it’s a great way for them to get their name out there and gain some good combat experience."
"Do we fight to the death?" Violet curiously asked.
This caused Isabella to chuckle good naturedly. "Kind of, the arena is enveloped in a large enchantment that will teleport out any contestant that is about to be mortally wounded. So you don’t need to worry about someone accidentally killing you." She then saw the look of disappointment that flashed across violets face and paused.
"Wait you were hoping for a death match?" She asked with some incredulity.
"Well they make for the best training! But at least I can still go all out!"
This caused the elf to blink in surprise at the dragon, her evaluation of the girl changing rapidly. "Out of curiosity, do you tend to stay within the Endles Forest? Or do you just regularly exhibition out into it?" 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"Hmm, of iv lived in it my whole life! This is my first time in a city! It’s really cool, there is so much good food to eat!" The dragon happily explained, then paused and promptly summoned forth one of her stored meals that she bought from the various food stalls the other day.
Isabella once more adjusted her opinion of the girl before her. She had originally thought that she was some spoilt and sheltered noble girl, but hearing that she had lived in the Forest her whole life meant that she must have an abundance of live combat experience. Yet she also has a storage item? ’Just who is this girl? Iv never seen a beastkin with her features before either.’ She thought to herself.
Needless to say Isabella was beginning to believe that she had found a true gem, and if her companion was the same, which based on how excited she sounded earlier... well Isabella was looking forward to seeing how their fights turned out!
Soon enough they arrived at the fighters entrance. They only had a single group waiting in line in front of them so they calmly waited for them to pass into the Colesseum before walking forward and being greeted by the guard and attendant.
"Isabella, see you have some new fighters for us. Will they all be participating?" The dwarven attendant asked.
"No just these two lovely ladies."
"Solo or duo?"
Violet quickly communicated with Luna and they both agreed instantly. "Solo."
The attendant nodded and he scribbled something down on his clipboard. "And your tier?"
"They are both fourth tier, early stage." Isabella swiftly replied. Getting a couple of surprised looks from the girls, unaware how she had so accurately deduced their strength.
"Very well, take this, this will be your number. Isabella can explain everything else for you. Next!" He passed over two slips of paper with a number on it before turning to the next entrants behind the girls. With a gesture from their elf guide they followed behind her once more.
Isabella led them through a series of passageways as she began to explain the rules to Violet and Luna. "So as you are both Lords, you will be fighting within the main arena. As you are both solo fighters their is a chance that you will end up fighting each other." She then meaningfully looked between them both. "I hope that one of you will not throw the match if you end up fighting each other."
Seeing both girls shake their heads she continued. "Today is the tournament day, so far only the fighters of the lower rank have been fighting. The Lords wil not start their bouts for another hour or so, plenty of time for you to get familiarised with the proceedings."
She went on to explain how the solo tournament portion for the Lords would work. As they tended to get quite high turnouts for each event, they would first need to reduce the numbers. To do this all the fighters would be split into groups of around 10, they would then battle in a free for all untill only two remain. These two would then proceed into the next stage.
This next stage would consist of 32 fighters split into a bracket format, a series of duels would then take place untill the last victor stands at the end. They were also informed that potions and skilled healers would be present to get ever fighter back to full health in between rounds.
This whole event got violet more and more excited, she was truly looking forward to seeing how all of these enlightened fought. She had only ever fought beasts and monsters after all, so she was curious how she would stand against such different opponents.
Before long they arrived in front of a door that Isabella opened up and led them inside. It was a simple room, with some sparse furniture and a table to one side with some food and drinks laid out on top. A strange obsidian square was hung up on one wall, with golden runes inscribed around its edges.
Noticing the girls interest in the item Isabella explained its purpose. "Ahh that is a viewing stone, a wonderful piece of magic really. It will display what is happening within the area at any given moment." Saying so she pushed some mana into it and the black rock suddenly shimmered with light.
A view of a sand filled area came into focus, showcasing several ongoing battles. Or as Violet focused in on the battle, she realised that it was actually a team battle of sorts. As the fighters would opportunistic attack their teammates opponents when they had the chance.
It was quite interesting to watch and instantly captured the girls attention. "Wow! This is really cool!" Luna couldn’t help but exclaim. Nods of agreement came from the rest of the girls at that statement.
"Fufufu we’ll watch well, because soon enough you will be in the screen yourself!"
