Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Just a Broken Hand

Dragon’s Crest Villa is somewhat remote, and it took an hour for the family doctor to arrive.

The family doctor is named Spencer, a gentle and refined man nearing forty, who seems to have a good relationship with Zane Thorne.

When he arrived, Natalie Vaughn was sitting on Zane Thorne’s lap, being fed fruit by him, while watching a movie previously directed by Director Gable. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Is this your sister-in-law?"

Such a simple, plain question, yet it easily piqued Natalie Vaughn’s curiosity. Having been with Zane Thorne for so long, all his buddies, except for that Caleb Lawson, called her sister-in-law.

Dr. Spencer appears as gentle as his voice, with an aura as soothing as a spring breeze, dispelling unease and agitation, calming one’s heart with its passage.

At first glance, Natalie Vaughn couldn’t discern his age, but the sense he conveyed was one that only a mature individual could embody.

Zane Thorne, however, just gave a helpless smile.

"Uncle Spencer."

Natalie Vaughn: ?????

How is this doctor calling her sister-in-law while Zane calls him uncle? Isn’t that mixing up the generations?

Upon hearing Zane’s form of address and seeing the confusion on Natalie Vaughn’s face, Dr. Spencer shot Zane a glance.

"Shouldn’t I be allowed to pretend to be young?"

Zane Thorne’s brow shifted slightly.

"Forty is indeed young."

But given the relationship hierarchy, Zane should indeed call him Uncle Spencer.

Natalie Vaughn curiously shifted her gaze between the two, intrigued. It was the first time she had seen Zane so relaxed with someone else. It was a different kind of relaxation compared to being with Felix Langdon and Theodore Langdon and the group of friends.

How to describe it? Like a fish returning to water, feeling free and relaxed in the most familiar environment.

Natalie Vaughn blinked, tilted her head, and looked at the gentlemanly man.

"So should I call you Brother Spencer or Uncle Spencer?"

This question successfully amused the two men, and Dr. Spencer stepped forward.

"Better call me Dr. Spencer for now; where does it hurt?"

Natalie Vaughn obediently called out Dr. Spencer, then extended her hand.

Dr. Spencer looked at Natalie Vaughn’s three swollen but now merely bruised fingers, then looked at Zane Thorne, raising an eyebrow.

"This is why you made me rush over?"

Zane Thorne gently held Natalie Vaughn’s fingers and earnestly told Dr. Spencer.

"Perhaps the bone is injured."

Dr. Spencer slightly tugged at the corners of his mouth.

"If the bone were injured, it would hurt terribly."

As he spoke, Dr. Spencer opened the medical kit and asked Natalie Vaughn.

"Does it hurt?"

Natalie Vaughn shook her head, placing her other hand to her mouth protectively, whispering.

"Actually, it didn’t hurt since last night."

Hearing this, Dr. Spencer was even more surprised. Considering Zane’s tone on the call, coupled with his concern for Natalie Vaughn, why wasn’t he informed immediately after the injury last evening, and only this morning?

"Why didn’t you call me over last night?"

Dr. Spencer put on gloves and began to examine Natalie Vaughn.

Last night... haha, Natalie Vaughn glanced at Zane Thorne. Last night, he was so clingy like a madman, despite only not seeing her for a month, he acted like it had been six months.

Zane Thorne calmly received Natalie Vaughn’s glance, and very nonchalantly said.

"We were busy last night."

Dr. Spencer was about to ask what they were busy with but when he looked up, he saw the bite marks on her arm through Natalie Vaughn’s loose sleeve and the faint marks at the base of her neck, he immediately got it.

He chuckled, put down Natalie Vaughn’s hand, and took out an ointment from the medical kit.

"The bones are not injured; just apply this ointment three times a day, and it will heal in a couple of days."

Zane Thorne quickly chimed in.

"Bring a couple more; she tends to bump into things."

Dr. Spencer adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

"Come to my clinic then; my kit’s run out."

After saying this, Dr. Spencer took off the gloves, tidied up the kit, and earnestly observed Natalie Vaughn, seeing that she could sit comfortably on Zane Thorne’s lap even with strangers around without feeling any awkwardness or impropriety. Suddenly, he understood why Zane liked this arranged marriage wife.

Such a personality would indeed be appreciated by Zane Thorne.

"Sister-in-law, do you know what Zane Thorne was like before? Even with a broken hand, he wouldn’t go to the hospital."

Now for a minor injury for Natalie Vaughn, he makes this big fuss.

Upon hearing this, Natalie Vaughn looked back at Zane Thorne once, then looked at Dr. Spencer.

"Uncle Spencer, please tell me all about it."

Dr. Spencer, as if finally grasping Zane’s weak point, began to narrate past events as soon as Natalie Vaughn opened her mouth.

It turns out Dr. Spencer is a distant cousin of Zane Thorne’s mother, having come to Astra City for studies when young and growing up at the Thorne Family.

He is ten years older than Zane Thorne, and they get along more like brothers.

Dr. Spencer was the one who took Zane to see a car race abroad, igniting his interest in racing, then Zane was just fourteen.

Zane showcased incredible talent at a foreign club, so Dr. Spencer sought friends and found a coach for Zane.

Initially, Dr. Spencer thought Zane’s interest in racing was just a phase, but unexpectedly, it became a passion. By sixteen, Zane was all in. However, the family didn’t agree, so Zane lived at Dr. Spencer’s instead.

During that time, Zane’s card was cut off, leaving him with no extra money. Racing is expensive, and Zane almost drained Dr. Spencer’s finances.

"You have no idea; because of this kid, I didn’t dare to date back then."

Because money was scarce.

Young Zane was more reckless and arrogant, once wrecking a car in an accident. Although the car was destroyed, Zane, with vast luck, had no serious injuries.

"He only broke a hand yet bore the pain stoically, refusing to go to the hospital or ask me for help, fearing I’d tell his parents."

Ultimately, a friend tipped off Dr. Spencer, and such a big event couldn’t stay hidden.

At the time, Dr. Spencer was also angry and decided not to give Zane more money for racing. To his surprise, Zane did something seemingly absurd but unexpectedly effective.

"That kid went home with his plastered hand and claimed, quite justifiably, that without money, the car couldn’t be well-maintained and accidents could cost lives; my sister was scared to death."

"My brother-in-law, short-tempered as well, beat him again with a stick despite his broken hand, yet Zane endured it silently."

"Perhaps it was Zane’s stubborn streak; being a man of passion, my brother-in-law tossed him a card."

"He said if Zane didn’t achieve something, he wasn’t a Thorne, and even mentioned considering having a second child."

Eventually, Zane’s parents didn’t have another child, but Zane did achieve greatness.

As Dr. Spencer spoke, pride filled his eyes.

"If he hadn’t suddenly retired five years ago, by now he’d be the most famous racer in the world."
