Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 70: Morning to Remember
The early light streamed in with Evander stirred, his eyes fluttering open. His gaze immediately landed on Delphinia, who was still fast asleep beside him. She was facing him, her chest rose and fell rhythmically as she faced him in quiet sleep. Her hair was slightly messy, a few loose strands falling over her face, but to him, she looked effortlessly beautiful.
A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he took her in. Yesterday felt like a bad dream, Lydia’s visit still left a bitter aftertaste. The thought of being alone in his room, left to wrestle with his thoughts, had been unbearable. When Delphinia mentioned going back to Ashton, he’d asked her to stay instead. To his relief, she hadn’t protested.
The mattress dipped as he moved a little closer, careful not to wake her. Just being near her brought him a sense of calm he didn’t fully understand. When he focused on Delphinia and Ashton, it was easier to silence the noise in his head. Easier to feel... okay.
Evander reached out hesitantly, his fingers brushing against Delphinia’s forehead. Her skin felt warm and soft, a sharp contrast to his cold fingers. His fingers moved gently, tracing an invisible path from her forehead to her closed eyes. He paused briefly, as if memorizing the way her long lashes rested against her cheeks, before continuing down to the bridge of her nose.
He traced the curve of her cheek, his thumb brushing lightly against her skin, and then moved to her lips. His fingers lingered there, the softness of her lips drawing him in. For a moment, he simply stared, his smile growing wider. There was something so serene about her as she slept.
Delphinia stirred, letting out a soft groan as her eyes fluttered open. Evander quickly pulled his hand away, not wanting her to notice, as though he hadn’t been caught red-handed.
Delphinia blinked a few times, her gaze locking onto his. Her eyes were still hazy with sleep, but the realization that he was staring at her made her eyebrows knit together in confusion. Her eyes snapped open, and she sat up, looking startled and awkward.
"What... what happened?" she croaked, her voice slightly hoarse from sleep.
Evander propped himself up on one elbow, watching her with an amused expression. He tilted his head, pretending to think. "You don’t remember?"
Delphinia’s eyes widened, and she pulled the blanket closer to her chest, her expression panicked. "Remember what?"
Evander tilted forward slightly, a playful smirk on his face. "We spent a very good night together."
Her mouth fell open, her cheeks turning a deep shade of pink. "What?! No, we didn’t!" she exclaimed, her voice high-pitched with alarm.
Evander couldn’t help but smirk as he watched Delphinia’s reaction unfold. The way her cheeks flared crimson and her eyes darted around the room like a trapped rabbit amused him to no end. She clutched the blanket tightly to her chest as if it were the last defense against his teasing, her knuckles turning white.
"You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?" she snapped, narrowing her eyes at him.
He shrugged, his smirk widening. "A little. It’s hard not to when you’re making it so entertaining."
She shot him a sharp glare, her eyes sparking with irritation, and she shifted back on the bed, putting as much distance as possible between them without tumbling off. She held the blanket like a shield, glaring at him as though daring him to come any closer.
"Stop messing around, Evander," she hissed, her voice sharp. "You know nothing happened. Don’t you dare make me—"
"Make you what?" he interrupted smoothly, raising an eyebrow. "Blush harder? Threaten me with that death glare? Because, honestly, it’s not very effective."
Delphinia’s glare intensified, though her retreat betrayed her. She edged further away, the blanket dragging along with her, eyes darting to the door like she might bolt at any moment. "Don’t test me," she warned. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Evander propped his chin on his hand, utterly unbothered. He watched her closely, catching the nervous tremor in her hands and the way her eyes darted toward him. "You look like you’re preparing for battle. Relax, Delphinia. I’m just teasing."
Her eyes narrowed even further, practically boring holes into him. "Teasing?
He smirked, clearly enjoying her reaction. "What did you think I meant?"
Delphinia stared at him, her eyes narrowing suspiciously. "What did you mean?"
Evander leaned back against the headboard, crossing his arms over his chest. "We spent a good night sleeping soundly. Together. Nothing more."
Her jaw dropped as realization dawned on her. "Evander!" she huffed, grabbing a nearby pillow and whacking him on the shoulder.
He chuckled, raising his hands in mock surrender. "What? Did I say anything wrong?"
"You’re impossible," she grumbled, throwing the pillow back onto the bed as she stood up. She ran a hand through her hair, trying to tame the wild strands.
Evander watched her with an amused smile, his laughter softening into something more genuine. There was something endearing about her flustered state, the way she tried to maintain her composure even when he teased her.
Delphinia glanced at him over her shoulder, her lips pressed into a thin line. "You shouldn’t joke about things like that," she said, though her tone lacked real bite.
He shrugged, the corners of his mouth quirking up. "I couldn’t help myself. You’re too easy to tease."
She rolled her eyes, muttering something under her breath as she made her way to the bathroom. Evander leaned back, resting his hands behind his head as he watched her go.
When the door closed behind her, his smile lingered. Despite her protests, there was a warmth in the room now, something that hadn’t been there the night before.
As he lay there, Evander couldn’t help but think about how much had changed since Delphinia had come into his life. She was a source of chaos, no doubt, but also a source of comfort. And though he would never admit it out loud, mornings like this—with her—were becoming his favorite part of the day.
