Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 72: Weapon & Property
Kai closed the listings and went on the homepage of the online shop and used filters to only have those listings that were finalized — meaning there was only five minutes before the highest bidder got the item. There were quite a lot of listings there. Kai skimmed over most and finally found one that looked good, it was an Exodian weapon. Bow, obviously.
[Item: Y’skael Veinbow Lv.24
Rank: Epic
Type: Bow/Weapon
Durability: 55/55
Requirements: Level 20
Effects:
Bio-Pulse Channeling: Gains +5% attack speed and +10% movement speed after each three consecutive headshot kills, stacking up to 3 times.
Veinshot: Fires bio-laced arrows that deal bonus damage over time with each headshot. (3% HP per second for 5 seconds).
Description:
Grown, not forged—this bow pulses like it’s alive. Grown in the deep vats of Y’skael Prime Floating Island, it bonds with its wielder’s circulatory system, pumping combat-enhancing agents as it feeds on bloodshed.]
An Epic ranked item. Exactly the type of damage he was looking for. Kai immediately bid for it. The price was going around at 300 and 400 since it was a bow — not used by many. On top of that, the effects were not as easy to activate compared to other bows that had passive damage and other not better but easier effects.
It was for someone who had confidence in his aim. Kai put up a bid of 430, topping the 417 guy below him. Another guy bid 450, and Kai had to go for 452, but the guy did not back down and just kept going till the five minutes ended and the price had reached 489 gold coins.
A bit too overpriced for a level 24 weapon. Kai felt like it was a gift from Xterminate07 and the Red Wolf guys.
Kai paid the price and stopped looking for any more enticing items. He had already spent too much. Hopefully, his new 10 listings will make up for the price.
Kai had lunch with Mimi and his mother, chatting about the dungeon they had just failed to clear.
"She was clearly bossing around everyone! And that newbie thinks he is better than us just because he has played some games! Nope, that won’t do. This game is different! Right Kai?"
Kai just simply nodded, so did his mother. They knew Mimi was not one to hold grudges, she was one to vent for a while though, even if her toe hurt a little. It was just conversation, however suddenly in between her rantings Mimi said with a sigh —
"Maybe they are right... I am not able to fight as fast as others. When I go too fast, my sword hits everywhere and everything starts catching fire..."
Kai signed, raising his head, ’Do you want to learn archery?’
"Huh?" Mimi said, her head bobbling to the side cutely, "Won’t my sword fighting skill be a waste then?"
Kai replied, ’I use both, bow and sword — you can too. Plus, archery doesn’t give any skill to help in aiming. So you don’t need to worry about that.’
"It’s hard, isn’t it?" She asked, pondering about it.
"It is indeed a better pair with your fire skill. You will burn a lot of arrows though.." his mother added.
"Hmm... Maybe I can give it a try. At least that will keep me away from that annoying genius!" Mimi replied.
After eating and spending a couple hours in leisure, Kai was editing his videos as Mimi just scrolled through her social media on her holo beside him on the couch. Then she started guiding her friend Lizzy on a call what to do in game and what was the right way to do "Quests".. It sometimes made Kai chuckle, but he kept that to himself.
Once he was done editing another clip of the dungeon video, Kai stood up, starting to go up. He had decided not to upload the video unless he cleared it — without clearing it, it was just another Grimhorn Video on the net, not exactly One-Step-Clear (his channel name) style.
"So soon? Didn’t you say four hours?" his mother asked as he got up.
Kai gestured, ’Something I need to prepare...’
She just nodded.
"I will come too, let me see that archery thing works or not.." Mimi said from the side.
Kai and Mimi went up, Mimi had her headgear there — but even if she didn’t, Kai doubted she would do this anywhere else. Before he could even get on bed, she jumped on it and patted beside her with a wolfish smile as if inviting him to do something completely different.
This chick was not good for his internal control and mental peace.
They put on the headgear and logged in. Kai did not go inside the game though. Mimi looked at him with confusion when he started walking off towards the direction of the giant neon glowing signed buildings surrounding the player landing zone.
"Where are you going?" she asked, not even hesitating as she started walking beside him.
’Buying some property.’ Kai replied with a sign.
"Property? For real?" she had to confirm.
Kai could not help but smile. The old Kai was so stingy with his money he barely even bought popcorn at a movie. This was so out of character for him — but it was a necessary step in his plan.
Every major human guild had a guild building near the official Nyxfal game portal. In coming months, actually there was going to be built a whole ass city surrounding the game portal. Actually the land buying had become such a profitable side business for the game and NOVA (Headgear Company who made the landing planets) that they had made six other Nyxfall general game entering portals on this landing planet and then seven in all 16 other landing planets.
Needless to say, the prices were through the roofs. But right now, it was not that high to buy a property in the middle of nowhere. Kai had money, and a guild house in a prime location was a must if he wanted to establish his own elite guild one day.
