Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 73: A Guild of My Own (Unedited)
Kai headed straight for the official NOVA building and asked for the listings of all the available property. One had to spend 50 Exelons to get it since it was a long list of all available land with their values and available customization options.
It was a virtual world, and there was literally no limit to what one could construct—if he paid enough. The customization for property options was only for high-value ones; it was a feature to attract more VIP buyers. Kai directly skipped to the properties available near the Nyxfall game portal—there was more red than he expected. People had started buying the property—the game had barely been out for a week. He underestimated the rush people had for this.
However, Kai didn’t want to get a lot of land, just a special place. Overlooking the Nyxfall game portal with all its designs was a green hill—it was some kilometers away from the portal. And the best thing, it was available. The brochure showed it as a map with green and red pieces of land—this place was mostly overlooked because it was far from the portal and not as important, but it was a green mountain with a single old tree at the top.
Kai knew this place very well. Once the Nyxfall city was built, this place was the best for a beautiful view, and also one could just jump down and use copters to reach the market area easily—making it both an efficient and nice place to live. The price was 34,000 Exelons. That was a lot.
Kai had 40,000 in his savings account, but he could not spend all of it. That was the lifetime income he had saved up from his gaming channel. But this had to be done. He selected a plan to pay 10,000 upfront and then a 12-month installment plan for 2,700 Exelons. The total would go to 42,400 Exelons, with the other charges totaling it around 45,000 Exelons. Needless to say—it was a massive investment.
But Kai was fine with it. He had already discussed with his mother that he was going to invest his money in something he believed in—she was worried for him but always let him do as he wanted. He was proud of his teenage self, who had never made any disappointing decision with his money and hurt his mother. This one was going to pay off.
After putting 10,000 Exelons as a down payment, with Mimi freaking out beside him, shaking his shoulder even though he told her he had already made up his mind, Kai got the core from the NOVA office that would let him construct a building as he desired. He refused any extra services—the core was a basic creation one, and he wouldn’t be able to make really fancy things with it, but it would do. He could always renovate in the future when he had more money to spare.
He instantly bought NOVA shares for the 25,000 remaining Exelons and kept the 5,000 for himself. He had planned to invest all the money he made from the online shop into the NOVA shares. They were priced around 70 right now, but in the coming months, they would cross 300 and even 400. That was the best investment.
It was just the start. In two years, NOVA had broken all kinds of records in the financial world after making Nyxfall exclusive for their platform—their value would only increase from here on out. Kai had plans to make even more money, but those would have to wait a bit—right now, he needed to make a strong base in his starting town.
Kai and Mimi flew to the property he had just bought. Seeing the lone hill with a big tree at the top, Mimi was more and more confused, but Kai couldn’t tell her what he knew. After a while, when she realized it was already done, Mimi too stopped trying to make sense of it and just followed behind Kai.
Kai activated the orb—it was the AI for his building. It would take care of everything, from constructing the building to taking care of intruders, or even handling permissions and authorizations for the members of the guild to access certain rooms and areas. It could even handle a virtual guild shop.
Instead of making the building wall by wall, Kai just selected a pre-built model. Mimi helped him in choosing and just stood outside the building as it was constructed on its own. Once it was finished, Kai and Mimi checked all parts of it. Kai changed it to an organization building and gave Mimi member permissions. It was a pretty cool building, much larger than his own house—not as big as fancy guild buildings but still pretty good for someone who was just starting out.
The giant tree at the top of the hill was in the backyard—the building covered the whole hilltop. He kept it that way on purpose. He used the core to make nice benches and table-chairs under the big tree. It was a good place to sit and relax for a while—even if the view for now only had a faraway Nyxfall portal and some stalls near it, with the occasional building here and there.
It took him an hour to do it all. By now, even his mother had logged in. Kai sent Mimi to pick her up with his copter—he showed her the building and everything. She didn’t ask how much he had bought it for—Mimi had already told her about the 10k deposit.
After a while, Kai called everyone to come there. One by one, all arrived. Zayden had a copter, and Bella bought one immediately instead of sharing a ride in his arms. Sherry and Jor came together using one copter. Inside the building, they all settled around a big table.
They had cooled down from their earlier arguments, but they still weren’t talking much with each other. Kai sighed and then started with his holo screen that everyone could see,
"This is going to be the base of my guild." It instantly attracted everyone’s attention. Kai continued,
"It is time I tell you all what we are doing here. You see, I have a gaming channel called One-Step-Clear. I upload videos of all the things I achieve in Nyxfall. This is not just a game for me—it’s a career. I established the club in the school because I wanted to find like-minded people who enjoyed playing this game and could potentially become my allies and even teammates one day."
Kai stopped and met eyes with everyone. It was a revelation for even Mimi, his mom, and even Bella and others. Good thing they were paying attention. He continued,
"So I have made this investment. A guild building. Because the guild I am going to establish will make a name that no player playing this game will ever forget. Nyxfall does not have any functions for making a guild yet, but that will change soon when everyone enters the city. What I am trying to say is—it’s not just for fun for me. I play games. This is the biggest game in the world, and I wish to reach the top.
You have already seen the potential this game has from the online shop, and let me say this—it’s just a start. Once more players join, hearing about the money, the market will flourish and this game will transform from just a game to a household necessity.
So with that in mind, if you are serious or even think you can work hard to make something of value here, I invite you all to join this guild of mine."
For a second, no one said anything, but after a while, Sherry spoke up hesitatingly,
"This is an amazing game, I have realized that. But as you already know, we have jobs, and we can’t give as much time to the game as we’d like... We can’t..."
Kai gestured for her to stop and said, "I am not saying you have to spend an ungodly amount of time to get better in this game. Being part of the guild means being part of this massive community with the same goal of moving forward. Even if you play for just a few hours, if you do that as part of this group, you are the most important part of the guild. Everyone has different roles—choose what you can do, contribute as you like—that is, if you want to move forward with us."
Sherry looked toward Kai with serious expressions, and then at her partner, and both nodded. Jor spoke for both of them, "We want to play this game with you, Kai. It is limited what we can do, but we will do whatever we can."
Kai smiled and just nodded. Then he looked towards Mimi and his own mother. His mom smiled and spoke up,
"You always did this alone, on your own. When you said you needed me for this game—I thought it was just a sweet thing that you said... But I see what it is that you do, and as your mother, I will support you no matter what happens."
Mimi chipped in from the side, "I am your girlfriend! Of course I will support you!"
