Chapter 72: Lucky charm

It was Saturday, the day Sienna was supposed to meet the unknown person who had asked her to meet in the planetarium. Since she had decided to not put her life at risk after much consideration, she stayed at the hospital under Kyrell’s watchful eyes.

Sienna wasn’t even allowed to work for more than two hours. Kyrell and Frank kept a close eye on her, making it impossible for her to exhaust herself.

At first, Sienna was really in the mood to relax and recuperate well. But as time passed, she was overcome with boredom. Her heart itched to do some work, attend to some important matters. Heck, she even wanted to shift her entire office to the hospital.

Alas, neither Frank nor Kyrell was on her side. They forbade her from doing anything stressful, leaving her grumbling and annoyed.

"May I..."

"No," Kyrell denied, without even listening to her, and Sienna snorted in anger.

Since Frank had gone to visit his son, who was admitted to a different hospital, it was just Kyrell and her in the ward. Assuming that the man would take pity on her and allow her to work for a few hours, Sienna tried her best to melt his heart.

But Kyrell was adamant as ever. Nothing she did worked on him. The man looked at her with such profound eyes that Sienna backed down on her own, without having him doing anything.

’Why is he more difficult than Frank?’ Sienna cried silently. ’At least Frank allowed me to work for a few hours last night. But this man...."

"There is no use crying, Miss Lawrence," Kyrell said, peeling an apple, as if reading her mind. "If you want to work, get well soon. Otherwise, stop hounding about it."

Sienna glared at him, adding one more to the countless glares. But as usual, it had no effect on him.

Kyrell stared at her amusedly, showing no signs of being affected by her anger.

"Am I your employer or are you my employer?" She spat, her fury getting the best of her.

"You are, Miss Lawrence. But it is my duty to protect my employer and I’m doing just that. And since you have the tendency to put your life at risk, I have to do something to stop you."

Kyrell sounded so convincing that Sienna, for a moment, was persuaded by his words. But she soon broke out of the control and shot a dagger at him through her eyes.

"Can I at least make a phone call? Director Cowell was supposed to meet Mr. Whitmore today to discuss the movie project. I wonder how the negotiation is going." Sienna looked at him pleadingly, pouring out all her desperation, and Kyrell’s tough stance eventually softened.

"Fine." He handed her phone to her, and Sienna took it with delight. ’What a bully!’

Kyrell looked at her with honey filled eyes, hiding his uneasiness as much as possible. ’Nevian...’

Sienna glanced at the time. It was some time past twelve in the noon, and Jason and Nevian were supposed to meet at eleven.

’The meeting must be over by now,’ Sienna thought and called Jason immediately.

"Hello, Miss Lawrence. I was about to call you," Jason said the moment the call connected.

"How’s everything going, Director Cowell? Did Mr. Whitmore agree to act in the movie?" Sienna asked hopefully. Since she had only a few weeks to show the shareholders her might, she had put all her energy on this project.

"Yes, Miss Lawrence. We have signed the contract as well. Mr. Jones is with me."

"That’s great news. Well done!" Sienna was delighted to receive some good news after a long time. The past few days had been hectic and worrying. Now, she could finally relax and smile.

"Miss Lawrence, Mr. Whitmore wants to speak to you. Are you free?" Jason asked hopefully.

"Yes. Give him the phone, please."

"Hello, Miss Lawrence."

Sienna heard Nevian’s excited voice and her smile widened.

"Hello, Mr. Whitmore. Welcome to the team."

"Happy cooperation, Miss Lawrence," Nevian replied, his voice resounding with joy, which surprised Sienna.

"Happy cooperation, Mr. Whitmore. But may I ask why you are this happy?"

"I’m just exuberant to have signed such an amazing script."

"But isn’t it normal for you? After all, you have a good eye. All your movies have been a blockbuster."

Sienna had done her homework. After speaking to Nevian the last time, she had looked into his details. The man had an amazing movie record and almost all of his movies had been blockbusters, or at least a hit. He had also won quite a few notable awards, including the Oscar and the Golden Globe.

Intrigued to see his acting, she had even watched a few of his clips from some of his famous movies. Even she, who wasn’t a movie fanatic, found the man’s acting impeccable. Nonetheless, Jason wanted to sign him. If she was a movie director, Nevian would have been her first choice as well.

"Miss Lawrence, if you are fine with it, can we meet?" Nevian’s tone was filled with anticipation.

"Mr. Whitmore, I..." Sienna hesitated and glanced at Kyrell, who was looking at something on his phone with an unfathomable expression.

’Why does he suddenly look scary? Did something happen?’ Sienna wondered, drawing her brows together.

"It’s not convenient today. How about some other time?" Sienna suggested. Although she didn’t mind having a meal with such an interesting man, she wasn’t in a good state currently, both physically and mentally. So, she rejected him politely.

"Oh, that’s fine. I might not be available once the shooting starts, so I thought we’d be meeting today because you owe me an apology meal."

Nevian sounded so crestfallen that Sienna didn’t have the heart to push him away once again.

"Mr. Whitmore, you don’t have to guilt trip me." Sienna chuckled softly, finding the man’s antics amusing. For the first time, she didn’t find someone’s desperate attempts to have a meal with her repulsive.

"It’s just that I am at the hospital and can’t be a good company, given my current condition."

Kyrell’s heart jumped at her words and he clutched his phone tightly. He knew what would happen in some time. The truth was out and Nevian would skin him alive for hiding it from him.

Sienna had no idea that as soon as she mentioned she was sick, Nevian had jumped to his feet as if someone had poked his butt with a pin. His reaction was so intense that everyone around him was baffled.

"Miss Lawrence, are you alright? What happened to you?" Nevian’s voice was filled with panic and there was an obvious quiver which Sienna didn’t miss.

"Relax, Mr. Whitmore. I’m fine. I was just exhausted," Sienna tried, but the man wasn’t convinced.

"Miss Lawrence, which hospital are you at?"

"What?" Sienna became cautious at once and her lazy attitude vanished. Instead, she became vigilant as though she was guarding against an enemy.

"Miss Lawrence, please tell me which hospital you’re at. I want to visit you."

Sienna frowned, not understanding what the man was trying to do. It was true that she found Nevian admirable and amusing. But they weren’t friends. Heck, they were even acquaintances. Why was he so concerned about her well-being?

"Miss Lawrence, please. I don’t have any ill intentions. I just want to visit you, that’s all."

Sienna’s eyes once again sought Kyrell, who was already staring at her. Meeting her gaze, he nodded at her, as if knowing her dilemma, and Sienna’s stance softened.

"Fine, Mr. Whitmore," Sienna sighed, closing her eyes. She then gave him the hospital name and ended the call.

"Mr. Whitmore is visiting me," she informed, keeping her eyes closed.

"You don’t have to be vigilant around him, Miss Lawrence," Kyrell said in all seriousness. His affirmative intonation surprised Sienna, and her eyes snapped open instantly.

"How are you sure, Mr. Winchester? I don’t know him and nor does he know me. Why is he so adamant?"

"Mr. Whitmore has no reasons to hurt you, Miss Lawrence. He is a good man and his philanthropic work over the years speaks for it. He is a friendly person. Maybe he just wants to be your friend."

Sienna trusted Kyrell’s judgement. Since the man stressed repeatedly that Nevian had no malicious thoughts against her, she lowered her walls and gave up dwelling more on it.

Kyrell looked distracted. Taking it as her chance, she opened her company’s social media page and saw that the PR team had already released the news of her buying a production house and signing a movie with Nevian Whitmore.

The post had been shared and liked by millions and since Nevian himself had shared it, adding more credibility, more and more people found out about it.

Sienna switched the tab and looked at her company’s share price. Compared to the previous day, it had increased a lot and compared to the previous week, it had risen by two hundred percent.

Sienna was astonished to see the effect the news had on the share prices. "He sure is my lucky charm!" she exclaimed, breaking Kyrell’s stupor, and the man instantly confiscated her phone, plucking it out of her hands as if he was plucking a flower.

"Hey, you... can’t do that." Sienna swallowed her complaints when she noticed his hard gaze.

"Miss Lawrence," Kyrell held a plate of peeled apple slices, "here."

Sienna snorted. Though she was irate, she still took a slice and bit on it as if she was biting Kyrell’s head.

Chuckling lightly, Kyrell shook his head and sat on the chair beside her bed.

"Don’t you have anything to do? Why are you guarding me as if I’m a fragile chick?" Sienna wanted him gone. Even a minute would suffice. The man was getting on her nerves and she wanted nothing more than to have some time for herself, with her phone and work of course.

"I’m your bodyguard, Miss Lawrence. I won’t be leaving your side ever."
