Chapter 376: 376 brings disgrace on oneself

[Margaret’s Perspective]

The maid rejected my request to unlock the handcuffs, and she didn’t move at all from outside the door even when I went to the bathroom.

Sitting on the toilet, I carefully observed the layout of the restroom and, finding no chance to escape, decisively chose to give up. It seemed that the only opportunity for me and Brand would be during outings.

After finishing in the bathroom, I turned the water at the sink to its maximum, using the noise to cover the conversation between the maid and me, "This isn’t the usual place where you detain captives, is it? Is the second floor where your master lives? Will she be back tonight? Why do some of you refer to her as ’Miss’ and others as ’Master’?"

While speaking, I turned to look at her with a smile on my face, "Don’t be so tense; I was just asking casually. If you think there’s something you can answer, then tell me. It’s fine if you don’t speak about the rest."

At that moment, the maid looked up at me. Still, she didn’t speak, but her eyes relaxed a bit defensively, "You must be talking about Miss Lillian. We are not accustomed to calling the master ’Miss’. If you’re finished here, please come out. The young master will come after you’ve had your meal."

I turned off the water at her words, but my eyes remained on her, "The young master you mentioned, isn’t it Henry? What is his relation to your master?"

My question went unanswered, and seeing this, I slowly nodded, understanding I would not get anything out of her.

Being handcuffed was quite inconvenient, so the meal with Brand took a long time, but the maid did not urge us at all. If it hadn’t been for the clarity of the situation just then, I almost would have felt like a guest invited by them, not at all like a captive.

After the meal, Brand and I did not meet MASTER, but unexpectedly, an uninvited guest showed up.

During the day today, I had felt that Lillian wouldn’t let me off easily, and sure enough, now she came to provoke me again!

"Henry really took great care of you. Look at the décor of this basement; if outsiders didn’t know, they might think you’re a VIP on Poison Snake Island!"

Upon entering, Lillian first looked around the basement, then said in a somewhat sarcastic tone.

Brand and I had no intention of responding to her, and suddenly the basement was incredibly silent.

Seeing this, Lillian’s expression darkened, apparently displeased by my disregard, "I forgot to ask you earlier, when did you and Henry become so close? I always feel he treats you quite unusually." Lillian’s tone became ambiguous as she looked down at me condescendingly, her gaze filled with disdain and provocation.

I looked up and met her eyes coldly, yet still did not speak.

"Thinking about it, you haven’t even been in Royal City for two months, right? When did you and Henry get to know each other so well? I didn’t think you were anything special before, but now..."

Lillian said, bending down, coming close and mockingly at me, she continued, "I think you have some ’methods’. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be manipulating Donald while flirting ambiguously with Henry, not even sparing such a teenager!"

The words from this woman’s mouth became increasingly unpleasant, so I straightened up slowly and stood, raising my eyebrow and speaking coldly, "No wonder you fit in with this crowd. It turns out you all have the same dirty tricks! Seeing any man, you probably subconsciously think he should like you, right?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

I said, stepping forward, noting the surprise on Lillian’s face, I scoffed and continued, "I don’t know why you and that woman harbor such strange ideas. I’ll just say this once, I’m not at all close to MASTER, nor do I have anything to do with what you’ve mentioned."

"Actually, I shouldn’t have to explain anything to you, but since you keep bringing it up again and again, it annoys me and makes me feel foolish, understood? I roughly know why you bring these things up in front of me; you’re still thinking about Donald and believe that sowing discord between him and me gives you an opportunity, right?"

Maybe my laugh was too ironic and provocative, causing Lillian’s face to start turning red, like someone had stepped on her tail.

I didn’t care about her mood at the moment and thought for a moment before continuing, "I can guess all the little schemes you have in mind, so don’t try to be clever. You can go now since you cannot win the argument with me; staying here any longer would just be humiliating yourself!"

"Margaret! You... as a lowly captive, what right do you have to speak to me like this? No one here can save you now. Do you think I would hesitate to kill you directly?"

Lillian continued, becoming somewhat uncontrollably emotional, with a reddish gleam in her eyes, and her demeanor became somewhat terrifying.

I did not respond to her bluff, just quietly maintained my gaze on her, warning her with my eyes: If you dared to do something, it wouldn’t have taken you this long.
