Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 372 ’Miss
[Margaret’s Perspective]
I sat sideways on the ground, and although I couldn’t see anything, my ears became exceptionally sensitive. Suddenly, the door to the room was flung open and the sound of high heels clacking on the floor began: could this be the "Miss" those werewolves were talking about?
With that haphazard guess in mind, I swallowed and asked, "What exactly do you want? Release me and Brand."
The sound of footsteps eventually stopped in front of me, as her gaze fell unabashedly upon me. She squatted down, apparently wanting to look me in the eye, "So, you’re Margaret? Quite pretty and gentle indeed – no wonder Henry is so fond of you!"
I had never heard this woman’s voice before, she must be someone I didn’t know.
But she casually mentioned my name and even brought up Henry, speaking his name with a hint of affection and longing as if she knew him well.
"Who are you? Skulking about without the courage to show your face, what exactly are you feeling guilty about?" I retorted, tilting my chin up to face her as best as I could.
Though my eyes were blindfolded at the moment, I refused to lose the confrontational aura against my enemy.
As if finding my question particularly amusing, she stood up with a chuckle, her sharp finger hooking under my chin, "You’re brave but not very smart. I had them blindfold you actually to protect you, because most people who have seen me end up dead."
"Of course, a precious hostage like you – I wouldn’t let you die easily. You could fetch a very nice price."
As she spoke, she even stroked my face with her hand. I didn’t find the gesture endearing in the least; it felt more like a cold, venomous snake slithering across my face!
I jerked my head away and sneered in response, "Such mystification! If you were really that powerful, would you still be lingering on this small island? By the way you speak, you seem quite concerned about MASTER. Is he still alive? After I shot him so many times, and yet he can still live, what a monster!"
’Smack!’
A crisp slap suddenly echoed through the room. As I turned my head, feeling the sharp sting on my face, I began to laugh again after a moment, "What? Seeking revenge for Henry, eh? This little hurt is nothing; if you’ve got the guts, just kill me. Threats and intimidation like this won’t scare me. If Henry is any sort of man, he shouldn’t be hiding behind your skirts."
After I delivered those lines, the other person suddenly regained her composure, as if she hadn’t been the one losing control and hitting someone just a moment ago.
For several breaths, I could feel her gaze as if it wanted to tear me to shreds, but in an eerie twist, her voice became somewhat gentle, "I misspoke earlier, you’re not less smart, but too smart! Do you think you can anger me with such words? You’re underestimating me."
It seemed she turned and walked away a few steps, her voice continuing in a gentle manner, "I won’t let you die easily. On the contrary, I’m going to take good care of you – at least until I can make sure Donald dies before your eyes!"
Upon hearing this, I took a deep breath, ignoring her provocation. Meanwhile, Brand, who had been silent beside me, finally spoke.
He straightened up and spoke sarcastically, "Since you’re so confident, why not let us see your face? You slapped Margaret right away – is that what you call taking good care of someone? Your actions speak the opposite of your words; is this how people on your island behave? Pfft!"
"So eager to defend her, could it be you fancy her too? Hahaha, I really didn’t see that Margaret has such charm; why do all men have such a favorable impression of her?"
"Shut up! I won’t allow you to insult Margaret; she is the most esteemed woman of this kingdom, the Lycan Queen!" Brand retorted furiously, seemingly driven to madness.
I listened to their exchange coolly, taking a faint breath and then speaking out to caution, "Brand! Don’t let her provoke you with words; she’s trying to make you angry on purpose. Don’t talk to her!"
Hearing my voice, Brand gradually calmed down, but the woman across from us couldn’t contain herself. She scoffed and said, "You really are quite something. I couldn’t compare to you when I was younger, and now even a 14- or 15-year-old boy is utterly ensnared by you!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Heh! Only someone as vile and filthy as you would look at a man and assume he must fancy you. Brand is just my brother; you better watch your mouth." I scoffed with derision, snapping back.
While the woman and I were engaged in this verbal sparring, someone else approached from behind me and Brand!
I lowered my head slightly and listened carefully, but the newcomer seemed hesitant and remained silent.
After a long pause, the woman I had been bantering with suddenly sighed, stood up, and in a conceding tone said, "Enough, for your sakes I’ll let her go for today. I’m leaving, enjoy your ’playtime’ with her, Lillian!"
