Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 327 Donald and Licia’s Game
[Margaret’s Perspective]
"You..."
Seeming not to have expected such a retort, Licia’s expression froze on her face. She glanced sideways at Elliot who had spoken, then turned back to see Donald’s reaction.
Donald simply closed his eyes in silence, showing no intention to speak.
In my heart, I recalled the ’spectacular performance’ Licia had put on all the way here, and at this moment, I had no desire to respond to her either. Today, Licia had indeed gone too far!
However, cured and returning as sharp and direct as ever, Elliot’s retort to Licia, albeit somewhat presumptuous, indirectly allowed everyone to breathe a sigh of relief, preventing the journey from being utterly depressing.
And that was the reason no one had spoken up against him just now.
I withdrew the corner of my gaze from Licia and silently pondered another matter.
Our secret mission to head south to Lilo Sea was supposed to be clandestine. Licia had been kept segregated in her own residence by Donald because of an incident a few days ago; hence, unless someone deliberately leaked the information to her, it was unlikely she could have known!
Now, what puzzled and troubled me, was who this person secretly informing Licia might be, and what their motive could be.
Licia’s vehement reaction to our journey to Lilo Sea surely indicated there were matters Donald and I were unaware of. As I thought this, I stealthily raised my eyes to glance at Donald beside me.
True to being mother and son, his temperament mirrored Licia’s—both equally stubborn and persistent, which indeed gave me and the rest of our party a headache.
Licia had attempted to force Donald’s hand with the threat of her own death, aiming to halt him from continuing southward. But Donald was hardly the type to be coerced. Thus, the two of them stood at loggerheads, until, just 10 minutes prior, Licia seemingly had a change of heart and stepped back, stating she would allow passage, but on the condition that she accompany us for the entirety of the operation.
As departure time had been greatly delayed, Donald eventually had no choice but to accept Licia’s demand. Although he didn’t show it on his face, or voice it, I knew he still cared deeply about Licia.
I sighed softly, turning to glance at Benjamin, who stood holding a bandage, wanting to treat the wound on Licia’s neck but unable to begin due to his highly noble but thoroughly uncooperative patient.
"Empress Dowager! Your wound is still bleeding. Could you please put down the dagger so I can treat it? If you carry on, it will get infected," Benjamin said with a hint of helplessness.
The only response to Benjamin was silence.
Licia had, of course, heard Benjamin, but she was just too indolent or unwilling to respond.
Perceiving the pleading look Benjamin cast my way, I took a sharp breath and began in a calming voice, "Benjamin is right, Licia. If the wound isn’t treated, the infection could be troublesome! You still want to carry out the mission with us, right? If you fall ill, how can we proceed together?"
"Don’t worry, since you’re already on board the helicopter, we won’t just abandon you. Donald and I wouldn’t do such a thing..." Before I could finish, Licia cut me off with an interruption.
"What do you mean by that? Are you accusing or mocking me, Margaret?" she said.
I looked back at her with a touch of exasperation, thought for a moment, and countered, "Which word in my sentence was mocking you? It’s your own conscience and emotions accusing you, not me."
With that, I pulled my gaze away, eyes landing on Donald’s hand, which was gripping mine tightly, "You should also know that even if you force Donald to take you on the journey to Lilo Sea, it’s unlikely you’ll change anything he wants to do. You’re merely wasting your effort."
"Henry is still going to be pursued and captured, and Levi is going to be surveilled. You can’t change anything."
Perhaps struck by the stark truth in my words, Licia’s facial expression, which had been fraught with emotion, gradually steadied. When she looked at me, her eyes were filled with scrutiny and darkness, as if she was plotting something else.
I wasn’t overly concerned about what Licia was thinking, for even if she had many ideas, under the watchful eyes of so many of us, she would hardly be able to act on them.
Licia finally quieted down, and Benjamin and Christian glanced my way, their looks one of gratitude. I felt a mix of helplessness and a deep sympathy for Donald.
According to the plan we had established earlier, we would fly from Royal City by helicopter to the borders of Mol Lake, and then split into two groups, switching to speedboats and a cruise ship to rush southward!
Elliot would lead the assault team ahead to investigate the situation concerning Eric and his missing party, while the main force would follow close behind, conducting secretive inquiries into the Spirit Dragon Pack and preparing to provide any necessary support to Elliot and Eric.
