Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 326 Respect the most sincere self
[Margaret’s Perspective]
All eyes in the room fell on Armstrong, whose complexion was still somewhat pale. Sitting in a wheelchair, he slowly lowered his head, remaining silent and seemingly lost in thought.
Seeing Armstrong silent, Nora interjected somewhat anxiously, "Armstrong, you need to think this through. This isn’t child’s play. If you really divorce Elizabeth, how will you explain it to the pack members when you return? You and Elizabeth are fated mates; we can’t defy the Moon goddess’s will..."
"This isn’t Silver Moon Pack’s public business. Armstrong only needs to be responsible for himself and doesn’t need to explain to anyone." I added to Nora’s words, not giving her the chance to say anything superfluous.
Nora turned to look at me with a face full of sadness and incomprehension, saying, "Margaret! Do you really need to completely tear this family apart to be happy? I know you’re dissatisfied with your father and me, but this is a lifetime matter for Elizabeth. What right do you have to make decisions for her?"
"Of course, I have no right to decide for her; no one does, and that includes you and Frantz. Understand, Mother?" I retorted coldly, my gaze ice-cold and expression resolute. "I can repeat it once more; I said from the beginning that this was Elizabeth’s own decision after much consideration. Is that clear enough?"
With a hint of sarcasm, I curled my lips into a smile and continued looking at Nora, "Our family was never that solid or harmonious to begin with, no tearing down needed from me. I’ve shown enough respect and tolerance towards you and Father already. I hope you recognize that and don’t keep putting me in difficult positions."
Nora looked at me as if I were a complete stranger. I didn’t care and kept silent after speaking.
For a moment, the atmosphere around the dining table became incredibly somber, like stagnant water.
Armstrong seemed to take a very, very deep breath. He slowly raised his eyes to look at me and softly said, "If that’s truly what Elizabeth wants, then I agree to this matter."
At his words, I laughed, saying directly to Armstrong, "I knew you would be the first one to agree. I wasn’t wrong about you."
I picked up my glass and raised it to him, "Here’s to your happiness in the future, and a toast to freedom and the most sincere self."
Upon hearing this, Armstrong’s tight face cracked for a moment, and a flicker of indefinable emotion crossed his eyes before he gave a slight, rueful smile, lifting his glass to look at me in return, "Thank you! You’re right, this glass is to freedom and the most honest self."
Armstrong and I tacitly finished our drinks, putting a final period on the matter, despite the other two people at the table still wearing faces of anger and misunderstanding. But no one cared.
Life is our own; we only need to be responsible for ourselves and not live in the hopes and assumptions of others, even if those people are our closest kin!
Elizabeth found out about this matter the next day, crying and laughing at the same time as she mocked my ’battle’ against the three powerhouses alone the day before. Her teary, red eyes brimmed with happiness and resolve.
She hugged my waist and wept quietly for quite a while, then raised her hand promising that she would definitely be good to Anthony, not letting down the ’great exploits’ I had done for her.
She was, of course, aware of how difficult it was to get past Flender and Nora, which is why she was so stirred and thankful towards me. I was also glad to have resolved this annoying matter for her, even if it meant resorting to intimidation and using the status of Lycan Queen, playing the villain. But I had no regrets about it.
In Donald’s words, I possessed the aura and dignity befitting a queen, which made dealing with selfish and shortsighted people like Frantz effortless. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
At 6 p.m. that day, I secretly left the Royal City with Donald and an elite force, accompanied by the personal guard captain Christian, the new assault team captain Elliot, and the genius medic Benjamin.
Of course, there was also the Empress Dowager Licia, who held a knife to her own throat, using her life as leverage to force Donald to take her along.
The sound of the helicopter’s normal flight filled my ears. Sitting to my left was the silent and cold Donald. I withdrew my gaze from looking at the back of the cabin and reached out to hold Donald’s hand, silently comforting the emotionally turbulent Lycan King.
"Since things have developed this way, we’ll just solve each issue step by step, so don’t be angry. We have so many people watching her; she can’t do anything else," I said.
After hearing my words, Donald exhaled a breath through his nostrils and grasped my hand tightly, the restlessness in his brow dissipating slightly.
"Anyhow, I am already on the helicopter. If you think of leaving me behind to act covertly, then I’ll injure myself for you all to see! I mean what I say." Licia was still holding the dagger, with the fresh wound Lillian had inflicted on her neck just a few days prior now joined by another cut.
Donald and I naturally heard her, but neither of us responded. Instead, Elliot, sitting beside her, replied in a cool, indifferent tone, "The helicopter has already taken off, Your Highness Empress Dowager. Even if you wanted to jump out now, no one would agree, so you might as well put down the dagger. Isn’t it tiring to keep holding it like that?"
