Chapter 322: Specimen 322 No. 1

[Margaret’s Perspective]

Elizabeth’s condition had improved a lot compared to yesterday, at least her little face didn’t look as pale and frightening as it did last night.

I walked forward and took the wheelchair from the nurse, saying gently, "Others are not allowed to come and go inside, you all may leave first, I will make sure Elizabeth is safely returned later."

The doctor and nurses who came with Elizabeth, of course, wouldn’t question my command. They nodded respectfully, answered with a ’yes,’ and then left, leaving only Elizabeth, my maid Ruth, and me outside the door.

"Let’s go inside," I said to Elizabeth in a warm tone.

Elizabeth nodded her head, staring straight at the door that had been opened from inside.

The air conditioning in the research facility was a bit low, and I glanced at the clothes on Elizabeth, asking, "Are you cold? Should I get you a shawl?"

Elizabeth, seemingly not expecting me to suddenly speak, shook her head and said, "It’s okay, I’m not cold, Margaret."

Seeing her so stiff in her reaction, I chuckled softly to comfort her, "Don’t be so nervous, Benjamin already reported to me and Donald today. Anthony’s condition is stable now, there is nothing to worry about."

"Hm? Oh, good!" The expression on Elizabeth’s face was tense, her eyes somewhat evasive.

I noticed her mind was elsewhere, and as I continued to push her forward, I softly said, "Just speak up if you have something on your mind, don’t beat around the bush."

Busted for her distraction, Elizabeth fortunately didn’t continue to hide her thoughts. She turned to look at me, "My mom told me all about the commotion my dad caused at your wedding yesterday, and I know you’re angry with them, but..."

She paused, as if still contemplating how to apologize in a way that would be easier for me to accept.

"They were just really worried about me, and that’s why they lost control like that. Please don’t be angry, Margaret. I apologize on their behalf. I’ve learned how to cook recently; let me make you a meal, would you forgive them this time?"

If this were in the past, Elizabeth would never have lowered her head to me like this; even if she was truly at fault, but now she had grown up, becoming softer and gentler. Even when she wasn’t at fault, she was willing to come and apologize to me and ask for forgiveness.

I slowly stopped walking, looking down at her gently, "I’m not angry about that incident, and you don’t have to apologize for them. Let’s not talk about this now, shall we? Let’s go in and see Anthony!"

Saying this in a tone that brooked no refusal, I continued to push her forward. Benjamin, with his team, came to meet us from the opposite direction, holding some papers in his hand, looking very busy.

I didn’t ask Benjamin to personally attend to us, just had his assistant lead us to Anthony’s ward.

Benjamin indeed hadn’t lied; Anthony’s condition was very stable now, just for some reason he hadn’t awoken yet. The assistant stood by explaining this issue patiently to Elizabeth, while I was slightly lost in thought about some other matters.

"What just happened? Benjamin seemed rather urgent," I said, putting down the cup in my hand and looking up at Benjamin’s assistant.

He seemed taken aback by my sudden question, hesitating for a few seconds before coming back to his senses and responding respectfully, "Lycan Queen, you are truly perceptive. A mere glance, and you guessed that something else happened in the lab. It’s our Subject No. 1 that has displayed abnormal conditions, and Teacher Benjamin is rushing over to handle the situation."

Ignoring the assistant’s compliments, I twirled the gemstone ring on my finger and continued to ask in a warm voice, "What is Subject No. 1? What happened there, do we need to go over and help?"

The assistant shook his head upon hearing my words, replying, "Thank you for your concern, Lycan Queen, but you needn’t worry. We have dealt with emergencies with Subject No. 1 many times before, and such incidents happen frequently in the lab."

During his explanation, I listened patiently without interrupting.

Realizing that he hadn’t answered my question directly, his expression tensed up markedly, he nodded quickly and said, "I apologize, Lycan Queen. The Subject No. 1 you asked about is actually the prisoner of war, Angel. This is her second emergency resuscitation today!"

"Are you saying she’s close to death?"

"What? Subject No. 1 is Angel? That traitor, Angel?"

Mine and Elizabeth’s voices echoed one after another in the air, stirring into a mix as the assistant looked at Elizabeth, who had suddenly spoken up, and then looked back at me, "Indeed, Lycan Queen. Yes, Miss," he replied.

I nodded slightly, stood up, and said to Elizabeth, "Stay here and don’t wander off. I’ll be back soon. Ruth, you stay with the second miss here; I’ll return shortly."

The latter part I directed at Ruth.

After saying this, I looked at the assistant standing beside me and spoke in a calm voice, "Take me there now, I want to see her."
