Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 310 guessed it
[Margaret’s Perspective]
After listening to my analysis, Donald squeezed my face in what seemed to be admiration, his lips curling into a slight smile as he said, "Darling, you’ve made great progress in your war analysis abilities, truly worthy of being my queen, Donald. However, you’ve overlooked one thing. This is the Werewolf Royal City, the most fiercely guarded of all. How could it possibly be easily breached by a ragtag bunch of Rebels?"
"Even if every Lycan by my side is stretched thin right now, don’t we still have the commanders of the Lycan army stationed at the edge of the Royal City?"
No sooner had Donald mentioned the Lycan army than I heard uniform footsteps outside the hall, followed promptly by a blanket of gunfire and the sounds of battle.
I glanced sideways at Donald and asked with a light laugh, "Even if you call them back on emergency orders, that would take at least 2 hours, wouldn’t it? Don’t tell me you have the power of foresight?"
I hadn’t expected Donald to have such a contingency in place, and this surely wasn’t good news for the Rebels led by Henry!
Holding his silver gun in one hand, Donald touched my face with the other and explained gently, "Your wedding is the most important event of my life. How could I not take precautions? Thankfully, I made these preparations in advance, otherwise we might have been in even more of a predicament today."
"I anticipated some difficulties, but I never imagined it would come to this. Henry... he really hid his intentions well! And Licia, I truly didn’t expect her to collaborate with Lillian."
Startled by Donald’s direct revelation about Licia, my eyes widened as I looked at him. I opened my mouth to say something, but his barely concealed sorrow stopped me, "How... how did you guess?"
At my words, Donald looked down at me with a wry smile, "Do I need to guess? Lillian was previously imprisoned by Licia. Without her indication, who else would have had the chance to approach Lillian? I think Licia was just too concerned about her relationship with Licia. She wanted to help Lillian get Austin’s body and allow them to leave the Royal City safely and never step into my domain again."
"Sometimes Licia is quite naive, which is why she was used by Henry and Lillian. However, considering her help for them, I don’t think Henry will actually harm her. That at least is a relief,"
"Why?" I almost instinctively retorted to Donald, "You’ve already guessed it all, haven’t you? Licia’s collusion with them is already exposed, and you can still be sure they won’t betray her and harm her afterwards?"
While I did not really agree with Licia’s methods this time, out of respect for her being Donald’s mother, I didn’t want her to get hurt and add to Donald’s grief or concerns.
Donald then looked deeply into my eyes before continuing to explain, "It’s my fault for not clarifying these secrets to you earlier. Besides being my mother, Licia is also Henry’s biological aunt."
"Licia is Henry’s aunt?" I repeated Donald’s words subconsciously, feeling my thoughts turn to mush in an instant.
"Henry’s mother is called Martha, Licia’s only biological sister. Of course, like Dan, Martha was also killed many years ago during the rebel warfare, so Henry is not just my cousin..."
"He is also your cousin on your mother’s side, the biological nephew of your mother?" I picked up where Donald left off, my surprise beyond words.
As I quietly digested this information, I slowly began to understand why Donald had said that Henry would definitely not hurt Licia.
Licia and Henry’s mother Martha were real sisters married to Alex and Dan, brothers of the Royal Family... This was an incredibly tragic fate!
I couldn’t imagine the extent of Licia’s pain following that war, the struggle for royal power was indeed cruel, but the betrayal of family beneath it was even more unbearable.
Just like the brotherly strife that seemed to be repeating history before us; Dan and Alex, Henry and Donald engaged in what appeared to be an endless fight to the death.
"I know what you’re thinking, dear, but now is not the time for hesitation. To show even a shred of mercy to our enemies is cruelty to ourselves and irresponsibility toward those we care about. Do you understand what I mean?" Donald’s words were spoken tenderly, as if he could see right through my soul, knowing exactly what I was thinking.
I certainly understood his thoughts and predicament; he had to do this. The burden he shouldered was not only as Donald but also as the monarch of the entire Wolf royal family. His position left no room for hesitation or mercy.
After making eye contact with Donald for a few seconds, I nodded to indicate my understanding. It was not the time to sit down for a meaningful conversation and peacefully sort everything out; we had to be ruthless!
Seeing that I had come back to my senses, Donald smiled gently and instructed softly, "Wait here and keep yourself safe. I will be back soon."
Looking at him, concern in my eyes but also slowly letting go of his hand, I said, "Understood, be careful yourself."
Turning my head towards David standing beside me, I ordered sternly, "Make sure to protect His Majesty."
