Chapter 302: 302 Sleepless Nights

[Margaret’s Perspective] 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The torrential rain had poured down all night, and both Donald and I hadn’t slept at all—or to put it plainly, it was a sleepless night in the Royal City.

Because of the rainstorm, many werewolf residences on the outskirts of the Royal City had collapsed, as well as localized flood disasters occurring; Donald had barely closed his eyes as he busied himself handling all sorts of official matters and remotely directing ministers to rescue the werewolves.

I watched the faint red blood vessels in the whites of his eyes with a tinge of heartache, but there wasn’t much I could do to help him besides brewing coffee, staying by his side, not going anywhere.

"I understand, stay there and continue to pacify the people, don’t give opportunists any chances, understand? I will ask the Lycan Medical School to send assistance as soon as possible, you all keep a close watch on the situation there."

"What do you mean ’whether today’s royal wedding can still be held’ or ’how to explain things to the press and media’? If you ceremonial ministers can’t even handle a little emergency like this, then step down early and let someone else take your place, alright?"

"All of you need to think more clearly; I don’t want to hear such idiotic questions again."

"Notify David to report the latest investigation progress to me in ten minutes!"

"..."

Donald’s phone had been ringing non-stop, and ministers constantly surrounded him. I placed the steaming cup of coffee by his side and with a sideways glance, signaled to Clark, who was standing there dazed, to step out first.

Clark exhaled heavily, as if pardoned, casting me a thankful look before he turned and left; he had just been scolded bloodied by Donald over the disaster relief matter and now couldn’t wait to get away from this place!

Donald, who had just finished a mind-link with someone, was about to ask Clark about something when he realized the man had already left. "Where’s Clark? I had other things to talk to him about; why did he leave first?"

I gave Donald a tender smile, gently smoothed the furrow between his brows with my hand, and said softly, "Clark already has several tasks underway; let him off this time. Mark and Louis are outside the door, aren’t they? I’ll have Ruth call them in. You can have them do whatever you need."

As I spoke, I beckoned Ruth over, gesturing for her to call the others.

Donald naturally wouldn’t object to my kindness. After heaving a sigh, he grabbed my hand and kissed it, saying gently, "I never expected last night’s downpour would cause so many problems. You’ve been up with me all night; go get some sleep now; your wounds haven’t completely healed."

At his words, I simply shook my head softly, looked at Donald, and said quietly, "I’m fine, not even sleepy. But you haven’t taken a proper break in hours. Take this chance while there’s no one around to drink something and soothe your throat."

Donald wrapped an arm around my waist, looked up at me tenderly, "Having you here with me, I don’t feel tired at all. In a couple of hours, it’ll be our wedding ceremony. You should go rest for a while, get ready, and dress up. I can hardly wait to see you in your wedding gown in the hall!"

"Today, you are my bride alone; it feels so good."

While speaking, Donald added this sentence, his handsome face suddenly blooming with a silly warmth, which made my heart tender. I leaned down and kissed his beautiful eyes, nodding to show I understood.

But before Donald could release the arm hugging me, his phone on the desk rang again. I glanced to the side; the caller was David.

David was the captain of the Royal City Patrol Team. He was in charge of the investigation into the sudden attack on Elizabeth and Armstrong yesterday. Seeing him calling Donald now, my steps suddenly felt heavy and unable to move.

No one could be more concerned for Elizabeth’s safety than I was. My beautiful and pitiful sister, she mustn’t have any mishaps!

Donald, of course, understood what was on my mind. He looked at me, his eyes full of reassuring tenderness, then slid open his phone:

"Your Majesty, it’s David! We’ve just found a survivor from the Silver Moon Pack in the oak forest southwest of the Royal City. He says his name is Anthony, and he now requests to speak directly with our Lycan Queen. What do you say?"

Upon hearing David mention the name Anthony, Donald and I both paused briefly. I exchanged a knowing look with my mate, then said in a stern voice, "Give him the phone now, let him speak."

"Yes, Lycan Queen!" David did not hesitate at all in the face of my command.

Then, I heard the familiar voice of Anthony!
