Chapter 284: Hide the Truth

[Margaret’s POV]

Even though we had long been witnesses to the ’MASTER’s bizarre and extraordinary potion-making abilities, the shock and amazement inside me couldn’t be stilled upon hearing Benjamin talk about such a thing!

Because this had transcended the realm of what ordinary people could comprehend, it seemed to have become something of a fantasy.

I widened my eyes slightly and looked at Benjamin, who stood before me with a serious expression, fear evident in his eyes, "A rapid recovery from all physical injuries? Is this a potion or is it magic? This is too inconceivable, right?"

I shook my head, feeling that such a thing was excessively bizarre. After a brief ponder, I continued to ask, "Then, wouldn’t such an illogical potion have some side effects when they use it on themselves? I mean, can it really be completely harmless?"

"How is she... How is Angel doing now? Why didn’t I see any surveillance videos monitoring her on the computer?"

After voicing the doubts in my heart, my gaze turned to Benjamin and Christian.

Upon hearing my question, Benjamin first glanced at me before shifting his gaze towards Donald, who stood beside me, as if seeking his consent.

Seeing Benjamin react this way, I involuntarily turned my head towards Donald.

It seemed my mate had concealed something from me.

"Are these questions that difficult to answer? Why do you need to ask for Donald’s opinion first? Can’t you tell me?" I asked.

Upon hearing my question, Benjamin immediately shook his head vehemently and hurriedly explained, "Of course not, Your Majesty. You are our Lycan Queen, and you have the right to be informed about all matters concerning the werewolf race!"

"I did not answer your questions immediately because His Majesty had specifically instructed that your well-being is paramount as you are still recovering from serious injuries. Regarding the traitor Angel and her cohorts, there’s no need to burden you with every detail unless necessary."

Benjamin’s explanation was somewhat plausible. I looked at Donald doubtfully and softly asked, "Is that all? Why do I feel like you’re hiding something from me?"

Throughout my conversation with Benjamin, Donald had been watching me calmly. Upon hearing my words, he just smiled lightly, his eyes gleaming with shrewdness, "Honestly, I hadn’t expected you to be so perceptive now, darling. Alright, I did indeed keep a few things from you these past days."

He said, taking my hand gently and continued with a smile, "I intended to wait until you were a little better before telling you... Austin committed suicide by poisoning himself, and Angel has gone mad."

I hadn’t expected such a sharp turn in Donald’s words, revealing two pieces of extremely heavy news so directly.

I stared at him with wide eyes, unconsciously repeating his words, "What? Austin committed suicide? Angel... Angel went mad? Why? How did this happen so suddenly?"

As if he had anticipated my shock, Donald’s expression did not change much, but he held my hand a little tighter, "Three days ago, Austin was summoned to the Royal City and was interrogated on the spot by me and several ministers at the Eastern Shine Palace. At first, he refused to admit his deeds, but after I threatened him with Lillian, he finally broke down and confessed."

Seeing Donald pause suddenly, I prompted, "And then? What happened next?"

Donald sighed deeply, finding some comfort in my tender gaze, "He suddenly lashed out, attempting to attack me in the palace, but I stopped him. He bit into the poison capsule he’d hidden in his mouth and committed suicide. It was a fast-acting poison, and no one could save him."

The emotion in Donald’s eyes dipped significantly as he spoke, something only I, who was closest to him, noticed.

I took his hand in mine, looking into his eyes with a gentle tone, "Austin, having harbored malice from the start and wishing harm upon you and the Royal Family, is no longer your friend."

"You need not feel the slightest guilt over his suicide; it was a price he had to pay himself. Don’t be sad, you still have me, and so many companions surrounding you!"

Donald seemed to crave my comfort, yet not quite so.

He smiled, leaned down to plant a doting kiss on my forehead, his voice incredibly tender, "I know all that you’re saying, and I am neither sad nor guilty. I just wonder why they felt the need to do this."

As his warm kiss lingered on my forehead, I slowly looked up at him, knowing that among the ’they’ he referred to, there was also Angel.
