Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 276: When questioning in court
[Donald’s POV]
Let today’s special interrogation be graced by those old timers representing the elders.
Having made such a decision lightly in my heart, I chuckled softly, ignoring the gazes of everyone as I turned and took my seat on the throne at the top of the hall, my eyes casting a darkened look over all present, including Austin.
"I thought you should at least answer Lillian’s question first instead of looking at us so coldly and distantly," Austin said in a calm tone as he received my top-down gaze.
Upon hearing Austin’s words, Lillian glanced at him, then turned her gaze back to me, "That’s right, Donald, you should at least answer my question. Have I offended you in any way?"
"Or is it the matter with Margaret before? Have you still not forgiven me? I did apologize to you already, what gives you the right to be so relentless? Say something!"
Lillian’s tone was verging on collapse when she spoke. I glanced at her sidelong, slightly knitted my brows, and coldly said, "I believe I’ve reminded you more than once, do not address me by my name, Lillian. You should call me Your Majesty or Lycan King!"
Resting back into the throne, I looked toward Lillian and Austin and continued, "Start off by demanding I answer your questions? Do you two think you’re mistaken because it’s I who am interrogating you siblings! What gives you such entitlement?"
Interrogating an Alpha of the Wolf royal family in court is a grave matter, so the expressions of those below had all grown solemn.
Especially so for the sole person involved in the affair, the expression on Alpha Austin’s face was truly a sight to behold!
"’Interrogation’? Are you implying you wish to interrogate me, Your Majesty?" Austin asked, seemingly perplexed, after a slight cold chuckle, he questioned me in return.
At his words, I just furrowed my brows and looked at him, remaining silent.
Austin didn’t seem the least embarrassed, instead, he continued to ask with a puzzled look, "May I ask why, Your Majesty? What heinous crime have I committed that would lead you to interrogate me in court without any prior investigation or questioning?"
"After all the years of our acquaintance, is this to be my end? I refuse to accept this treatment of a Wolf royal family Alpha by you; my pack won’t allow it either! I demand a reasonable explanation!"
Listening to Austin’s high-sounding sophistry, the corners of my mouth slowly formed a sarcastic smile.
Looking straight into Austin’s eyes, I chuckled and counter-questioned, "So in your eyes, Austin, I, Donald, am one who disregards all factual evidence and wields royal authority only to satisfy my own desires? Is that the sort of person I am?"
"Or do you believe that I could never uncover those filthy acts you’ve committed in secret? Could you be overconfident?"
When I finished speaking, the expression on Austin’s face hadn’t changed, only a subtle dimness appeared in his eyes, hardly noticeable.
Lillian was completely bewildered at this time, seeming not to understand any of the riddles spoken between me and Austin. She looked at Austin beside her, then raised her eyes to me on the throne, and asked in utter confusion, "What are you two talking about? Why don’t I understand a word?"
"Donald... Ah, no, Your Majesty, is there perhaps some misunderstanding between you and my brother? Didn’t we all sit together in harmony just yesterday? Less than a day has passed, so why has it come to this? What on earth has happened, can’t one of you tell me?"
Lillian was fraught with impatience in her tone. I glanced at her sideways, with little interest in explaining to her.
She would do best to always remain uninvolved and better still, forever ignorant; otherwise, I cannot guarantee my continued patience with her.
Austin was unlike me, unable to maintain his composure; he was always incredibly protective of his beautiful and delicate sister, a true brother-obsessed maniac. So, in the end, he couldn’t help but interrupt Lillian, attempting to alleviate her anxiety and prevent her collapse!
"You shouldn’t have come with me to the Royal City today; this is no longer your concern! Now, leave this place and wait outside!"
As he spoke, he seemed to survey all those present, his gaze ultimately settling on Licia, the woman of highest status in the room apart from me, the Lycan King.
"The Empress Dowager has always been fond of you; she won’t allow His Majesty to mess with a clueless girl like you. Just wait outside, we should be finished shortly!"
