Chapter 273: Protect the short.

[Margaret’s POV]

"I told you earlier that you wouldn’t agree, but Aunt Judy just knelt on the ground and wouldn’t get up, forcing me to make this trip to plead with you on Angel’s behalf..."

Henry said with a self-mocking laugh, his eyes on Donald conveying helplessness and guilt. He continued, "I’m sorry, Donald, I perhaps shouldn’t have come! I should have considered this matter from your perspective... Don’t be mad, just pretend I wasn’t here tonight, I’ll leave now."

The hospital room was very quiet, Henry’s words falling to the ground like dead weight.

I glanced at Donald’s somewhat indifferent expression, and when I turned away, I couldn’t help but quietly say, "But you are already here..."

He paused for a moment, then turned his face to look at me.

"You didn’t go to the Eastern Shine Palace during the day to find Donald, which means you know very well that this matter should not be addressed publicly as official business, but rather in a more intimate, private capacity! You and Angel have had a close relationship since you were children, but what about you and Donald, don’t you share a bond?"

I spoke softly and sighed lightly, feeling sorry for my mate who valued emotion so deeply, "You only see the plight of Angel in this situation, but have you thought about the pain of Donald being betrayed by his close friend? Clearly, he is the most helpless and innocent party here; why do you always think he is being unreasonable and ungrateful?"

Henry’s lips twitched slightly as if he wanted to add something.

I glanced at him and cut him off directly, "Don’t tell me how you couldn’t bear to refuse the eager requests of the elders! This matter isn’t supposed to be discussed like this."

"If betraying the Lycan King and the pack can be easily forgiven, then how will the dignity and beliefs of the Lycans be reestablished in the future? Would this country not become completely disordered?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Sure, profound friendship is very important, but aren’t national justice and tribal faith even more crucial? As a Prince of the Wolf Royal Family, you should be clearer on this point!"

"I’m not afraid to offend you, Your Highness, but I’ll speak bluntly—you really shouldn’t have come today! By doing so, you’ve been quite unfair to Donald, and somewhat disappointing..."

"I can see that Donald truly cherishes having you as a brother and a friend! You shouldn’t judge him from the perspective of an outsider. There’s no need for more explanations; you being here today already shows that your inner balance has silently shifted towards favoring Angel!"

The things I said were indeed some harsh realities.

I could have chosen to sugarcoat things and say something soothing to ease the tension between the brothers.

But that would be unfair to Donald. I didn’t want him to keep feeling upset while still having to excuse Henry’s appearance today and those biased and unfair emotions!"

So I chose to strike directly, shattering Henry’s seemingly helpless apology, and laid the bare facts clearly in front of all of us.

Only in this way could I truly honor Donald’s sincerity towards him.

"I..."

Henry probably didn’t expect me to be so direct and harsh, and several times he tried to say something but I bluntly pushed it back, eventually leaving him stuttering a few ’I’s.

Donald seemed quite pleased with my fiercely defensive attitude, a hint of a smile and comfort in his eyes, yet his face remained utterly impassive, looking very cold.

"Sorry, Donald, I..."

"You better go back."

About 2 minutes later, Henry’s apology and Donald’s dismissive words collided, and the atmosphere in the hospital room became tense again.

Listening to Donald’s cold voice, Henry’s expression stiffened, and he took a sharp breath before finding his voice again, "Maybe Margaret is right, I was too one-sided about today’s matter."

"I need to apologize to you, Donald! You can be upset about this; I took things for granted and didn’t really consider your feelings, I’m sorry..."

"I’ll go back now, and once you’ve cooled down and decided to forgive today’s brash mistake, I’ll gradually show my face to you again." Henry said, deeply looking at Donald, an expression of deep remorse on his face.

Gazing at his sincerely remorseful eyes, along with this proactive attitude of admitting his error, I suddenly thought this Lycan wasn’t so bad after all, definitely not arrogant or disrespectful!

I gave a soft sigh, stretched out a finger to scratch the palm of Donald’s hand, signaling him to let it slide, to not make the situation too stiff to handle later.

Donald was naturally not one to sweat the small stuff; he first grasped my mischievous fingers, then exhaled and spoke in a deep voice, "I’ll pretend you weren’t here tonight, and don’t bring up Angel in front of me again, or watch out—I might lose my temper!"
