Chapter 256: Living Target

[Margaret’s POV]

Even facing such frightening casualties, the commander of the enemy organization attacking us seemed to have no intention of sparing our RV; there were dozens of rogues I saw in my line of sight charging toward the RV!

Most of their attacks were intercepted by our Lycan team members, with only a few rogues breaking through the layers of defense to get close and attack our RV.

Louis and Mark’s nerves were incredibly tense, veins in their hands bulging as they clutched their guns.

When the glass in front of me was struck by a bullet, leaving cracks, I knew we could no longer keep hiding; we had to break through the encirclement and get out as soon as possible. We couldn’t just sit and wait for death.

"They have guns designed specifically for armored vehicles; remember not to expose your position! Louis, open the right door. We need to go out and face them; we can’t let them focus all their attention on this RV," I said, lying flat on the ground with an undeniable determination in my eyes.

"Lycan Queen! How can this be? His Majesty said you cannot leave this RV. If anything happens to you, Mark and I would be inexcusably negligent! No, I cannot agree with you!" Louis protested, his eyes widening in alarm.

Mark, who stood beside him by the door, wore the same expression of refusal on his face.

Benjamin looked at Louis, who was speaking, then turned his head to look at me. "Louis is right, Lycan Queen. We can’t let you take the risk of getting out! They won’t break through this RV any time soon. Let’s wait for His Majesty to coordinate the defense. Please don’t make it hard for Louis and the others!"

"I’m not trying to make it hard for any of you! Haven’t you realized? The enemy doesn’t have many sniper rifles that can counter bulletproof equipment, and their only target is this RV; it’s literally a live target right now!"

"They must know I am in here, which is why they’re targeting us so specifically. Getting out and changing positions at this time is also for my safety!"

I continued, picking up a handgun from the table without pausing, "Elliot is still in the medical room inside; I can move, but he can’t. The two of you better think about it!"

After finishing my piece, I didn’t bother with them any further and glanced at the maid, Ruth, who was crouching not far away.

I slid the handgun across the floor to her and softened my tone before continuing, "Just in case, take this gun and hide in Elliot’s medical room! You keep an eye on him; we won’t let the enemy have a chance to break in. Go now."

In the few seconds while I was speaking to Ruth, our RV’s left side driver’s seat and rear compartment glass were attacked by enemy bullets!

These gunshots were like warnings, as well as some sort of declaration.

Having gained some courage from the ordeal at Starry Ravine, Ruth looked at me with moist eyes before firmly nodding, picking up the pistol, and crawling towards Elliot’s medical room.

I then turned my attention back to Benjamin and, after a moment’s thought, reassured him, "Don’t underestimate me too much; I’m someone who has walked away unscathed from Angel’s clutches! I’m aware of my limits and will protect myself."

"And you are Elliot’s last line of defense! Of course, I believe Donald won’t let me or you be of any use."

Benjamin, being the Lycans’ medic, would probably be about as good in combat as I was, but his intelligence was worth much more than mine.

I didn’t spell out this last part directly but just gave him a look before gesturing for Louis to open the door.

After wrestling with himself, Louis finally clenched his teeth and handed me another submachine gun from his shoulder, then forcefully yanked open the door and jumped out first.

At this point, Mark didn’t say much either, just followed closely behind Louis, his expression quite grim.

They must have felt extremely reluctant, but at that moment, I couldn’t deal with so much; I was certain that my choice was the best one. I leapt out of the RV with agile movements, guarded by the two of them, one in front, one behind. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

As the outside cold air hit me, my brain instantly became more alert. I subconsciously tensed every nerve and muscle in my body, my excellent vision scanning every inch of the surrounding space.

’Roar!’ An earsplitting wolf howl came from behind us. I was startled and immediately turned around, but Mark had already raised his gun and started shooting first!

After several cries of pain, I smelled the blood in the air...

But the rogue that had been shot wasn’t immediately felled; instead, it charged at us even more furiously.

Mark and I realized the gravity of the situation almost at the same time; the rogue’s fur was able to withstand the shots from the submachine gun!
